 I think his weight was "beer" related though.. and well, Beer is a major food group isn't it?

It was for a long time since clean water was hard to come by. Alot of times it was better to drink beer just because it was more sterile then the local watering hole.

GOD WANTS US TO LIVE, SO HE GAVE US BEER!

Damn...sucks to be him. Feel sorry for the family, but couldn't they do something more other than telling him to stop eating? Like locking up the junk food.

I think it's partially the parents fault for letting this happen.

He was 20. I highly doubt "locking up the junk food" would really stop him from buying some for himself.

Actually, to be fair, nothing in his diet, except for maybe the French Fries, could really be classified "junk food."

Beans are actually good for you, and white bread and butter, while perhaps not as good for you as a whole-grain alternative, is also OK, if taken in moderation.

That's the key, I think: If you take anything to the extreme it can make you sick. The fact that he never ate ANY fruits or vegatables is actually more telling than the things he did eat.

Someone else could eat those very same things at every meal and live to be 100,.. as long as they also ate some other things as well: Some protien; some green leafies; a little fruit; and you could be a very healthy, if a bit gassy, person.

Yeah, I had junk food when I was a little kid too, and my parents always tried to stop me?

Point is it's not completely the parent's fault; they should have tried harder yes, but the kid shouldn't have been so ridiculously stupid.

<-- Special K challenge to get back my abs for running :D

Nah, the beans in question were another brand of these;

Again, not epecially unhealthy if eaten in moderation. And yeah, it was in the UK, up in Sunderland.

Going with the general concensus on this, I'd blame him and his parents equally. I find it hard to feel any sympathy for him, although I do for his family.

From the way the article was worded (heard it on the Radio news as well), I got the impression he was living at home with his parents. Especially as he ended up in a wheelchair, to 'tired' to move.

So with regard to locking up the junk food, yes they were perfectly capable of doing it. Harsh as it sounds, when he started protesting and refusing to eat sensibly, they could point out that's why the ****er was in a wheelchair to start with :indif: And as for refusing a life-saving operation...

Building up a mental picture of a young man who can literally eat himself to death with crap, and is presumably therefore pandered to in doing this; I'm picturing...

Let this be a lesson to all of us.

I was kinda kidding about beer having no drawbacks... you should try wandering around the streets of my town at 1am on a saturday without getting punched to see a few of them...

though when i went for my company annual health check the only recommendation i got was "drink more alchohol". :D

If i remembner rightly, 7 or 8 units a week is optimal, and once you get over around 18 units or so then the drawbacks outweigh the benefits. My problem is that if i drink 8 units of beer a week then I will pork out like crazy unless i start doing more exercise. :(

They could've stopped it at a younger age is what I'm trying to say. I understand what you mean, but the guy wouldn't have been at this point unless he had eaten like hell over a long time.
