Lynk Former
@toms: You're right and I can explain why the model for suitless Samus was made. It starts the the Japanese. You see, Metroid isn't very popular in Japan so Nintendo tried to grab more popularity with the only way they knew how... to sex her up. Of course this still doesn't mean breast jiggle and near nakedness. Samus may be the body but it's as far as being athletic to do her job that is the reason why she has a great body. Her breasts on the other hand were purely to attract people, however you will notice that there is no breat jiggle, but her breasts aren't stones either. Nintendo has gone the sensable way and actually made her breasts act truely REALISTICALLY when they are in her "wetsuit" type suit. However as you can see the suit still molds itself around her breasts which happens to be a very anime thing. So yeah, for everyone else, it really doesn't matter if Samus is in or out of the suit, but it really ddi help for Samus's popularity in Japan. However when it comes to ingame action (in Metroid games), Samus still relies on her suit because she is in an extremely hostile environment. In Zero Mission, I'm sure as you know, she was nothing without her suit and relied on stealth to avoid getting her ass kicked lol.

Tyrion
What's interesting is that apparently the Wavebird and other gamecube controllers won't become obsolete; at least, that's what the article is implying. Arreat
Wow, looks like the Wii is gonna be the PS2 of this generation. Read this story, at E3 the lines to play a Wii are 4 hours long! Compared to PS3 and 360, which is like 5 minutes. http://www.tgdaily.com/2006/05/11/nintendo_steals_thunder_at_e3/
Lynk Former
That story is out of date, Nintendo has had to CLOSE the line entirely and not let anymore people in cause it's too damned crowded. This totally eclipses what Twilight Princess achieved at E3 2005. Also, it seems that the SSBB trailer is extremely popular... more so than another games trailer... http://www.n-sider.com/newsview.php?type=story&storyid=2145
Lynk Former
Sorry to double post like this but I'd like to get some real discussion about Super Smash Bros. Brawl going instead the usual OMGWTFBBQ!! sorta stuff I've been doin' so far in this thread lol. This is purely for us Smash Bros. fans, we know who we are Anyway, we've gotten our first glimpse of a mega title, one that will release fairly early in the Wii's lifespan. It's one of the hottest titles of the nextgen wars, right up there with Halo 3 and Metal Gear Solid 4 and Nintendo is not holding back. So there are a few revelations, and it's not just Snake we're talkin' here, or the inclusion of other third party characters and the fact that smashbros.com is actually ASKING people who they want... no, there are other things besides that. Firstly, we know that SSBB is not going to be using the Wiimote's unique abilities. They want to keep things traditional because obviously this is purely for the people who have supported Nintendo so far and are used to that traditional control scheme. So does this make this game a GCN2 title rather than a Wii title? I don't think it does, for many reasons, the Wiimote, while the most famous element of Wii is not the only thing Nintendo's nextgen console has to offer. For one thing this console is more powerful than the GCN and the storage space has more than tripled which allows for Masahiro Sakurai and his team to really get a hefty amount of content in there. Anyone who has played a lot of Melee knows that it's quite a big game in terms of content and options, and Brawl will be a million times bigger. We should also take into account the online abilities of Wii and its unique WiiConnect24 feature that allows the console to stay connected to the net while it's on standby using minimal power. This, of course is great because who knows, next time you start up SSBB you'll hear the NEW CHALLENGER siren cause Nintendo just updated the game with a brand new character for the game from one of its newest franchises. There will also be various kinds of online play and statistic recordings and god knows what else, you can bet on it. So while it's not using the motion sensors or the pointer, it's still going to be a game that's far beyond what Melee gave us. It is just as important as Twilight Princess to Nintendo and they're gonna give it their all for this game. That was evident when they managed to get Sakurai back and created an entire studio around him just to create this next instalment. This will be one of the biggest games ever, there's no doubt about it but I have a feeling that it also may be the LAST Smash Bros. game... Sakurai is no longer with Nintendo and although Nintendo can do what they want with Smash Bros, what really makes the game so good is Sakurai's view of how it should be done. Now Miyamoto was able to offload Zelda onto Eiji Aonuma, however there is no clear successor to Sakurai with Smash Bros. And to be honest this formula, which is still very unique is about to get old after this game. This is the last one and the one that will truly be polished so bright that it'll be like looking into the sun. Again, like I said, Nintendo is really making sure of that. While they insist that SSBB will launch early 2007, I doubt that very much. This game is extremely important to Nintendo so if there is something that they're not satisfied with this game, they will so delay it, by a year like Twilight Princess if they have to. I for one wouldn't mind that, it is hard to wait for such a great game, but you know it's gonna be that extra bit kickass because of the delay. I am 98% certain that this will turn out to be the LAST Smash Bros ever. But 2% of me say that Nintendo will continue on with the series without Sakurai and they will try to do new things with the series. Of course there is a very good chance that this will spoil the series, it's not like any of the other Nintendo franchises were they're flexible enough to create many forms of gameplay out of the one franchise. Smash Bros. is Smash Bros. and you can't change the formula, you can only add to it, and I don't want Nintendo to go in that direction with the series. I would rather they stop at Brawl which will end up being the best ever and people will always remember it as the best and last of its kind... Moving on, I love the fact that they managed to get Nobuo Uematsu who is famous for composing the music for all of the major Final Fantasy games as well as the anime and Advent Children. His work of course will give SSBB a very epic feel which you can already feel from the trailer theme music. The graphics are an improvement over Melee but, of course, nowhere near the level of what the PS3 and Xbox360 can achieve. This game is NOT using any of the unique abilities the Wiimote has... yet it's still one of the most wanted games yet to be released. That is the power of Smash Bros. IG-64
Brilliant post Lynk. But I disagree on the point of Smash Bros. ending after this game. I have a very stong feeling there will be more Smash Bros. games after this one. Why? First of all, it's one of their best franchises and they can't let it go that easy. Secondly, and more importantly, now that they have this new studio, which is made up of many long-time Smash Bros. fans and veterans, they're likely to find the best successor to Sakurai with his same vision and way of thinking for the series' future. I also disagree with your view that the Smash Bros. formula is going to get old after this game. I think adding to the graphics and sheer amount of game content over the years is good enough. And I would certainly be happy if they did just that and i'd buy every one of them. But this new game is introducing so many new exciting things and this new studio, that's (for now) exclusive to this series, is most likely coming up with more and more great ideas that would be perfect for the series. I don't know how good it is to make this kind of comparison, but look at the Madden series. They barely change anything from game to game and people still buy them. Smash Bros could go the same way but the addition of this new studio shows promise of taking the series in new exciting ways in the future. So, contrary to what you think, I belive the series is still in it's youth and could only go up from here.
Lynk Former
But that's the point I'm trying to make, I don't want Nintendo to go down that path where simply adding more is good enough and people will buy it. I would rather Nintendo create a different type of fighter with all of its mascots after this, something that is fundamentally different to Smash Bros. that you can't call it that but is still FUN. You want to have a brillaint series, but there is a danger of milking it dry and having people start saying "oh great, another Smash Bros. game." I don't want that to happen. You want people to say "oh man, Brawl was such a great game I wish Nintendo makes another one dammit!" The Madden series was a very bad example, VERY bad example and only proves my point that +1 is not good enough, especially for Nintendo. Having a series be popular isn't necessarily going to make it GOOD, there's a fine line to be walked and like I keep saying, I'd rather Smash Bros be remembered for all the good times, rather than having it fall into repeat land. Mike Windu
The point is, it wont. Where'd your faith in Nintendo go all of a sudden? I don't believe Nintendo is stupid enough to let such a franchise slip away and become redundant. I'm curious as to the direction that SSB4 will take; I would like new characters but at the same time I don't want the selection pool to be too diluted with characters who throw the game offbalance; the team needs to make sure that every character is as balanced as possible, especially for tournament play. This also leads into my idea that no, there won't be downloadable characters. That just doesn't seem feasible imo other than to add joke characters (Pichu) but to add serious competitors is not logical. Unless Nintendo dedicates a Smash team to play smash all day and all night to make sure any new character introduced is balanced. This dev team has 10 thousand matches logged into their GC, and worn down control sticks; they have the dedication needed to keep this game going. If Sakurai didn't direct SSB4, there's still a strong dev team to know what is needed and what isn't. They gave us Meta and Pit... something that fans have been screaming for since SSB. I called the whole use GC shell thing. Indeed I did. Yep... indeed I did. It is impossible to play smash on a pro level akin to SSBM with the wiimote. It just doesn't function like that. BTW I called it. I'm a horrible winner online. On the topic of ZS Samus v Reg Samus: As I stated on Smashboards, these will be two completely different characters, without clone attacks (Falcon and Ganon). It's impossible to think that Nintendo would change Samus to allow her to switch between suits with a special move akin to Zelda/Sheik; removing Samus' morph bombs automatically drops her to middle tier. Also, ZS Samus wields an energy whip and blaster, bringing up a completely new playstyle unlike the regular Samus. On topic of limits (super moves) : I hope that these are item activated only, as it could potentially ruin tournament play. Example: Player A is dominating Player B but gets shanked with a limit at the last second. If the limits were able to be turned off for tournament play, that'd be nice. It's still too early in the game to see how this new addition will play into SSBB. On the topic of Snake: Yes Snake is an addition, hooray. However, I don't think we should lose focus on what Nintendo made Smash for- Nintendo. Thus, I would hate seeing crap like Pac Man and Sonic in the game - they just don't fit. Snake I can accept because he started on Nintendo and doesn't represent any one company as a whole, but I just can't think of Smash being Smash with icons from other gaming companies. toms
Regardless of whether it will become repetetive, nintendo would be daft to dump one of their most successfull titles at the peak of it's fame. Sounds like online is going to add a lot to SSB.. and just think of all the games that xbox live rejuvanated. I'd expect them to add lots of third party characters.. as downloads or in later games. With the Wii's newfound ability to make sports games much more interesting i'd also expect more emphasis on Super smash Tennis and Football and golf etc.. with maybe the same characters being accessible in all the games. Nintendo isn't averse to repeating a game formula if there is demand... and not every game can be innovative all the time. I'd expect that their main reasoning behind giving that guy a studio was to try and train up a number of potential successors. A question though.. will SSBB be playable AT ALL with the Wiimote? (even if its just using te analogue stick and butons.. no motion sensing at all). It seems to me that a lot of the virtual console games will require a "classic" or gamecube controller. SSBB may need a "classic" or gamecube controller. Does this mean that the nintendo will have to include a classic controller with every wii? Games that require non-standard addons have traditionally sold far less than games that work with the default hardware. Or will it be playable.. just not very well? I don't believe Nintendo is stupid enough to let such a franchise slip away and become redundant. I'm not a Nintendo fanboy. Remember that, I will not follow blindly no matter what people think of me. I'm curious as to the direction that SSB4 will take; I would like new characters but at the same time I don't want the selection pool to be too diluted with characters who throw the game offbalance; the team needs to make sure that every character is as balanced as possible, especially for tournament play. If Sakurai didn't direct SSB4, there's still a strong dev team to know what is needed and what isn't. And that's why the balance won't be thrown out. It's not gonna DIE, it just has a higher risk of becoming mediocre. As for the controls, I think you'll still be able to use the Wiimote, minus the special abilities since Smash Bros has such a simple control setup that can be mapped easily to the Wiimote. Alegis
Somewhat related to the topic : In a interview for CVG Hideo Kojima told that he would like to run away from Metal Gear Solid 4 creation and create something for the Wii. http://www.nwiizone.com/nintendo-wii/nwii/hideo-kojima-wants-to-run-away-from-mgs4-to-work-for-wii/ Concerning Snake’s appearance on Wii in Smash Brothers, I’m friends with the designer of the game and I thought it would be nice if you could play as Snake - when I heard about the new game last year, I contacted the designer and we started working together. Mike Windu
They've stated that this game would follow GC shell/gamecube controller... Wiimote is too simple for a complex game like SSB. *cough*Mario Party*cough* But yeah, regardless, I agree in that it's not gonna die out anytime soon. Mario Party sucked from the get go. Balance is relative, it will ruin competative balance, but it will create a new balance to the game which you'll eventually get used to. So I'm playing my Fox and I'm doing a grand job and all of a sudden some overpowered char comes in and counters it? Unless they have an active dev team after release, then I hope they don't enable downloadable characters without making sure every character can fight every other character on an *almost* equal basis. Course, if they eliminate wavedash then that's pretty much impossible. But I have confidence that they won't remove WD. Also: Judging from the trailer, Metaknight needs to be nerfed. His aerials are too strong.
