Alegis
(2d etc stuff) Jazz Jackrabbit. Final Fantasy XII. (3d) No One Lives Forever (old game, but damn lovely game. Hilarious and great SP)
Black Knight of Keno
http://www.abandonia.com/index2.php There are some pure goodness of oldies. If you want some newer low-spec games, try here: http://www.reloaded.org/ I sggest you try "5 days a stranger" and "7 days a skeptic" or maybe even "Trilby's notes" All will make you have bad dreams for a week or so. I haven't recovered from "5 days a stranger" yet and I last played it right after New Year, but I'm a weak-hearted being and can't stand even crappy gore if it's mooded right Also, the Ben Jordan - Paranormal investigators are pretty dang addictive if you like brainstorming. And Mario Bros. never gets old, but I think you need an emulator, so that's a no no for you
RoxStar
Anything of Tim Schafer's games before Psychonaughts, not that the game is bad, it is brilliant, but probably won't run on your laptop.

swphreak
Starscape is a good time waster. Give the demo a try. You should also get your hands on Star Wars Rebellion (Supremacy for you Brits) if you like strategy games. Instant Classic.
TiE23
GeneRally is a great time waster. http://www.gamehippo.com/category/top20_rated_title_3.shtml Try the N-Game, too. If it were me, I would bring some physics demos and maybe Endorphin. http://community.naturalmotion.com/

Samuel Dravis
Any of the old Lucasarts adventures are quite good. Ever play The Longest Journey? That's good too. Strategy: I've noticed that Age of Mythology works super smooth on my laptop for some reason (256mb ram, 64mb onboard video). That's a fun game. Yoda Stories is a okay time waster as well.. TiE23
This may sound crazy, but you might want to just leave it at home depending on what you're doing there... why are you going there anyway and where?
Det. Bart Lasiter
Why are you going to Japan? For fun? Hookers and manga.
TiE23
Hookers and manga. Nah, he doesn't roll that way. More like some electronic gagdets and some funky super caffeinated beverages. Hookers cost too much.
Nerd_Annhilator
Speak for yourself. I'll just stick with hookers and electronics later ...you can keep the manga. EDIT: Its a holiday. Don't look at me. EDIT Mk2: Tokyo.

Dagobahn Eagle
I downloaded King's Quest 1 from... I think Abandonia. It's definetly recommendable (those moat monsters rule:rofl:!).
Lightsaberboy
I downloaded King's Quest 1 from... I think Abandonia. It's definetly recommendable (those moat monsters rule:rofl:!). oh yeah, the re-released remaked freeware version of it is really good, especially with the voice acting and all. It was also cool how they made it connect with all the other kings quest games. You can dl KQ1 and KQ2 remade over here Yeah, there was a time when I really got into freeware point-and-click adventure games. Some good ones for free AND legal that I would highly recommend include Out of Order, Teen Agent, The Breakdown(a great, short, adventure game that you can beat under an hour, Beneath a Steel Sky and Flight of the Amazon Queen. The later 2 you need to dl ScummVM from that site first to run them properly.
Black Knight of Keno
Not necessarily. It depends if ou use XP and even if you do use XP they might work. There's also KQ3 remake out there. Find it here, where are other pretty nice other games too. I encourage you to try 'em out. If you like adventure/puzzle games like KQ, BaSS, FotAQ or Teen Agent and such, here are sme pretty nice, freeware games too EDIT: All those games Lightsaber listed are available on either Abandonia or Abandonia Reloaded
