TK-8252 Posted September 4, 2006 Posted September 4, 2006 http://www.abc.net.au/news/newsitems/200609/s1732439.htm Death by stingray. That sucks. R.I.P. Crocodile Hunter.
milo Posted September 4, 2006 Posted September 4, 2006 Suck. I loved that guy. Guess I won't be watching any more Animal Planet.
90SK Posted September 4, 2006 Posted September 4, 2006 Oh my god. How can he die? That man was an icon. R.I.P
TiE23 Posted September 4, 2006 Posted September 4, 2006 Awww. This sucks. He was kinda annoying but it sucks he died. Chris Farely, Mitch Hedburg, and now Steve Irwin would be on my list of people to resurrect if I had the chance.
BongoBob Posted September 4, 2006 Posted September 4, 2006 Damn, that sucks. I thought it was a joke too, but just...damn... I always joked that he wouldn't die by a snake or a crocodile, but by something more retarted, just like a stingray I feel bad for his family
TiE23 Posted September 4, 2006 Posted September 4, 2006 Sucks that I found this out first on YTMND. Then came here. Bugger.
coupes. Posted September 4, 2006 Posted September 4, 2006 I always figured he'd get killed by a snake or a crocodile, but a stingray... o_O At least he lived his life at the fullest and died doing something he liked.
BongoBob Posted September 4, 2006 Posted September 4, 2006 I found out first on 7chan...which found out an hour before cnn...
Lightsaberboy Posted September 4, 2006 Posted September 4, 2006 I always thought he'd die by crocodile. ah well
Darth Groovy Posted September 4, 2006 Posted September 4, 2006 I suppose that is how he would have wanted to go. Nobody can really make fun of him now. RIP guy.
Sabretooth Posted September 4, 2006 Posted September 4, 2006 DEATH TO THE STINGRAY!!!! But heck, he was a great guy - a real icon. It's sad to see him go like that. But maybe he was sdestined to go like that. I always loved watching his documentaries and all, but this sudden death, its just not good.
TiE23 Posted September 4, 2006 Posted September 4, 2006 Dammit. He wasn't that great or really outstanding. But he was a dude you just don't want to see die. Damn, still kinda depressed. :\
Vikinor Posted September 4, 2006 Posted September 4, 2006 Damn, that sucks. He always seemed like a kind of er crazy type, and I figured he would have died wrestling a crocodile or something. R.I.P
IG-64 Posted September 4, 2006 Posted September 4, 2006 Wow, I've just heard of this. I looked over at fox news and the first thing I saw was "Steve Irwin 1962-2006." It took me a few moments to register what that meant. I wasn't exactly a fan but I'm still quite shocked. He always seemed kind of immune to danger because he would do crazy things and come out ok. That he would actually die by something like a stingray is pretty shocking. People are shooting these dangerous documentaries all the time and they seem to always turn out all right. I figured it was only a matter of time before something went wrong and somebody got seriously hurt or worse. So I'm shocked but I can't say I'm really all that surprised. But he knew the danger and was happy to put himself in it to do what he loved doing, and that's all that really matters. R.I.P. Steve Irwin, my sympathy goes out to his family.
Pho3nix Posted September 4, 2006 Posted September 4, 2006 I guess that's what happens when you mess with animals I guess. I never liked the guy though, I always found him quite irritating and fake-happy. Oh well, May the Force be with him.
RogueJedi86 Posted September 4, 2006 Posted September 4, 2006 At the risk of getting flamed, I will say this. It's wrong for us to act like he's an important person in death, when most of us wouldn't be talking about him otherwise. It's implying that death makes him a better person, worthy of talking about. And related to the news, I think it ironic that he died from a stingray sting while making a documentary about "demistifying the stingray". Though a crocodile getting him would've been much more ironic.
Zappa_0 Posted September 4, 2006 Posted September 4, 2006 That really sucks..big time. He was really cool.
Jeff Posted September 4, 2006 Posted September 4, 2006 Well, I think we always knew he'd die in the field. Probably how he wanted to go, just not so soon. RIP mate
St. Jimmy Posted September 4, 2006 Posted September 4, 2006 I found out while I was listening to Triple J (a radio station) and I didn't believe it. Seriously, I thought it was a joke they were playing. I always thought that guy was immune to death, Actually I allways thought he was annoying. But, He was a very cool guy and his enthusiasm wasn't actually acted. He just had a huge passion for what he did. RIP Stevo.
RogueJedi86 Posted September 4, 2006 Posted September 4, 2006 Well, I think we always knew he'd die in the field. Probably how he wanted to go, just not so soon. RIP mate Then again, does anyone ever want to die at any time?
edlib Posted September 4, 2006 Posted September 4, 2006 While this is an unqualified tragedy for his wife and young child (children??? I really haven't been paying attention...) as well as his worldwide audience of fans, I don't think it can really be found all that shocking to anyone who has witnessed some of his antics around some of the most dangerous creatures on Earth. Was there ever an episode of his show where he didn't reach into the lair of some animal, only to be immediately stung or bitten for his efforts? While I do appreciate his passion for his work, as well as all his efforts to demystify the animal kingdom for regular viewers who might never get a chance to see these creatures in person, up close and personal like he did, I've always thought he was awfully and dangerously cavalier around them at times. But I guess that's how you get ratings these days... And let's face it,.. the headline: "Crocodile-Hunter dies while swimming with stingrays." can hardly be considered anywhere near as shocking as say,.. oh, I don't know... "Stephen Hawking dies while swimming with stingrays." Still, I never want to see anybody die with so much life still ahead of him. And he will no doubt be missed.
