DarthJebus05
Ah, my mistake then. Btw. Why don't you make a character on a PvE server if the ganking disturbs you? My friends friend was on a PvP server, then my friend went on, and I followed. When the fee server changing thing happened a few weeks ago, we tried to go to a RP server, but our server wasn't eligible. At least their are some people who agree around here. I do not see the relevance of your post. This thread is asking 'Why you play WoW?", not come in and start berating the game. If you don't like or play it, then please, don't post. Rogue Nine
Well, if you didn't want us to 'berate' the game, why did you start off the thread with a statement like: Simple question, why do you play? Theres so many things in the game that either bug you, or infuriate you. It would seem to me that you are expressing frustration with WoW and your subsequent screenshots seem to reinforce that notion, making your question seem rhetorical and sarcastic. If it wasn't your intent to have people come in and say negative things about WoW, then perhaps you should not have done so yourself to start with. John Galt
actually I'm on a newer server(Onyxia) that doesn't have all that many people, so I haven't been ganked all that often other than in Hillsbrad(which I am thankfully done with). That's where I've been doing for the past while, by the way.
Jeff
Onyxia isn't new is it? I play on a PvP server (Demon Soul) and while the server itself sucks (low pop and at least 65-35 horde-ally ratio) I like PvP servers better. Sure you have the losers who gank you but I just think it makes for a more real atmosphere, plus I like killing other players as much as I hate it when it happens to me. Negative Sun
I don't. Thread should have ended here...WoW is, like someone in this thread very accurately stated, the Halo of MMORPGs, overrated cr*p. The fact that the servers are littered with morons doesn't surprise me, nor do I feel sorry for people who get disappointed in the game by this, as this is what you get when you play an overhyped, mediocre MMO... Jeff
Well, 10 million subscribers can't be wrong.^ Thats basically how I see it. A game with that many players can hardly be considered mediocre. Sure it doesn't appeal to everyone but give it credit where its deserved.
Lantzen
Also, after playing all the Warcraft RTS's, I was very ticked off at Blizzard for allowing us to kill so many big name characters in the Xpack. It ruined what little there was to like about WoW's story. It would be like... raiding and killing Darth Vader in Star Wars Galaxies One of the many reason i never started playing wow, even with like half of my friend playing it. Another of the big reason i wont start with WoW is the grinding, it don't lead anywhere. You grind your way to level 70, after that you do the same instance over and over and over and over again so you get better gear, after you got better gear you start with the next instance, then the next. Also one of the reason i got tired of Oblivion pretty quickly, when almost the only thing you could do was starting to go into random dungeons over and over i lost all interest. I want a story and a ending to my games, and if it's fun i replay it and do things diffrently. I would probaly think the game was funny to begin with, have tryed some friends account, but i know that i would get bored quickly with it And one more thing i notice with some of my friends that is playing, they don't even like the game anymore. To quote one of my friend "Ahh, my guild don't gonna do *insert random instance name* tonight, so i don't have to play". If a game start to feel like work, i don't even want to start playing it. They just continue to play because they dont have anything better to do, or now when they are in pretty good guilds they feel like they can't let the guild down. Well, i got into rant mod, not often that happens
El Sitherino
Yeah because World of Warcraft is the only game that has *******s.
HerbieZ
There is only one reason why i don't play that game. It is by all accounts a complete waste of time. One thing i learned from Galaxies was that going into a "Dungeon" with 8 other players was unique but not in the least bit fun for me. Having people literally shouting at you because you explored down the wrong corridor or "stole the loot" like their real lives depended on it seemed stupid to me. Granted, id be up for a good dungeon exploration but the second someone shouted at me, i thought to hell with it. This isn't a bash at wow, it's a bash at the status of mmo's in general. Some just blur the line between fun and social-goodness for me. If you enjoy it, play it. Don't let anyone else's opinions stand in the way of your own when fun is on the line. Like i said, i played Galaxies for a long time and even though i have left it, it left me with some great memories. Which if your an outsider, would be viewed as pathetic because people don't understand that even though there is a huge world outside, for some this is the only way they can see it. The only way they want to see it. The question to ask yourself is. Are you happy? Then you find out why you play the game.
Lantzen
Well, Galaxies was pretty funny (A while, like before the first expansion, after that it started going downhill) because you could do so much more then just grinding instances. Like building houses, or work like a dancer, not just do the same dance but you had to put a little more effort in it then type /dance. You had special moves and things like that. I have happy memories of Jedi hunts and Rebel player hunts, me and like 20 imperials was hunting rebels in some of the bigger citys ^^ And if i remeber correctly it was very hard to become a jedi, and it was diffrent from characther to characther. Then they made it easy with some special guy you just could go to and make some questes (The downhill part) But the instances in Galaxies was never my thing, i pretty much played it for fun and did very random things like mention above and never had a uber characther in it. In WoW you feel more forced to that you most get to level70, otherwise you can't do ****

Aash Li
10 million subscribers... lol Id love to see the real accounts list. China and all those gold farmers Im sure account for a good chunk of the subscribers. I know they arent counting inactive accounts though.
Jeff
Yeah, I've seen the numbers dividing it up by continent I think...I remember asia had about 5 mil, I think North America had somewhere in the 2 millions.
RedHawke
First off, it was the biggest PvP server the game has. Secondly, he was AFK Thirdly, Alliance camped my body and the spawn for three whole hours. I actually went offline for an hour to wait for them to leave. I ended up reporting them. Fourthly, that guy was ganking the lower levels, I saw it in the chat around a half hour before killing him. I knew there likely was a reason you did that. Perhaps I am an odd-ball here but I wouldn't have gone for the cheap shot, even if the other player was a complete arse... there is no real 'glory' in it, IMHO anyway. Wow is an obviously different beast and one that I am happy I do not participate in. Those situations never even arise in my chosen MMO, and thank the great maker for that. One thing I cannot, or will not abide, is griefers. I'm not saying you are one DJ, just a general statement by me about them.

Me and my friend vowed to never 'gank' lower levels when we started playing, unless they attacked first. Even if they did attack first, we would either freeze him in place and run off. It would have been totally different if he was my level, and I was the 36.
TheProphet
It's a shame, MMORPGS have such potential. I really do enjoy playing those sort of games, but when those "lolers" come in acting like complete morons, it's very difficult to enjoy the game much at all. It just depends on your threshold for dealing with things like that.

It just depends on your threshold for dealing with things like that. That's why I chose DDO, none of that greifing stuff, private instances, team oriented... most people are team players and if you aren't... well... your rep will stay with you. That's the benefit of a smaller community I guess. [/advert]
Aash Li
Redhawke, I just noticed, your Drow doesnt seem to have a hairstyle found in NWN2... or is that from DDO? I tried DDO back when it first came out, I wasnt too impressed. How has it changed?
Jae Onasi
If WoW had private instances, I might be interested. However, I prefer the private instances in Guild Wars and the fact that it has no monthly fees. I don't have to deal with morons, since I can turn off the local channel in towns if I want, or switch districts, and I don't have to worry about griefing. mur'phon
For me tbh I enjoy the game, but didn't play 1-70 for fun, I played to get to 70. And now that I'm 70 while I still have fun, I'm playing to get better gear and stuff like that. Some of it can get old but I think the rewards are worth it. That's the reason I stopped playing wow
Aash Li
I posted this on my server forums after a particularly bad run of trying to quest in Nagrand. I have finally figured out what Warcrack isnt. And its not a game. Its an abusive relationship. You logon like a battered wife coming home to her abusive husband, expecting to have fun. Only like that abusive husband, you constantly get beat up, knocked around and yelled at by the game. But you keep on "playing" expecting the game to change and that it will become fun for you, only it never does. Month after month the game beats you, mocks you, and steals your hard earned money. All because theres the promise that at level cap the game supposedly becomes fun. Hey Rogue, that other warcraft thread, I thought it was this one. lol I was like, why did you close it, they were talking about it, not picking up a group! Need to pay better attention to what Im looking at. >.>
