JCarter426 Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 British man is turning into a woman. Also, more interesting (read: odd) news from across the pond... Scientists turn female bone marrow into male (duh ) sperm.
Inyri Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 Hmm, judging from the picture he'd probably benefit from less makeup and less eyebrow plucking if he wants to be considered more masculine.
Burnseyy Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 Poor guy. If something like that happened to me, I'd never leave the house lol
igyman Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 Well, now that's what I call weird! I do feel sorry for the guy. As for that other thing, I'm gonna call it "interesting".
JCarter426 Posted July 30, 2008 Author Posted July 30, 2008 As for that other thing, I'm gonna call it "interesting". Read: odd. Really though, they barely mention it in the article at the end, but it opens up the possibility of having a child with...well, yourself. That could lead to this madness. O_o My thoughts exactly.
Burnseyy Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 Read: odd. Really though, they barely mention it in the article at the end, but it opens up the possibility of having a child with...well, yourself. and they say incest is wrong?
Inyri Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 That wouldn't be having a child with yourself, that would be producing a clone. That has its own set of ethical issues which have been discussed at length.
JCarter426 Posted July 30, 2008 Author Posted July 30, 2008 That wouldn't be having a child with yourself, that would be producing a clone. Nah, it wouldn't be a clone. Sperm don't have the same DNA as their maker, and neither do eggs. They're cheap knockoffs--put two of them together and you still don't have an exact copy.

They're cheap knockoffs--put two of them together and you still don't have an exact copy. Sorry, let me compose myself and address that from a biological point of view. Sperm don't have the same DNA as their maker, and neither do eggs.Yes they do, they just have half the DNA of a normal cell. They don't have completely different DNA as you suggest. They're cheap knockoffsI lawled, but there's no reason to respond to this as it was already addressed above. put two of them together and you still don't have an exact copy.Actually true, thanks to meiosis. Still, the end product is 100% genetic material from the parent.
TriggerGod Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 Actually true, thanks to meiosis. Still, the end product is 100% genetic material from the parent. And because both halves of the genetic material are from the same person, that means that its is a 100% copy of the original.
Inyri Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 And because both halves of the genetic material are from the same person, that means that its is a 100% copy of the original. No it doesn't. Read up on meiosis.
JCarter426 Posted July 30, 2008 Author Posted July 30, 2008 Yes they do, they just have half the DNA of a normal cell. They don't have completely different DNA as you suggest. It's half and half, yes, but not necessarily the same half.
Inyri Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 What are you on about? They have half the DNA of a normal cell. It's still from that cell.
tk102 Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 Hmm, judging from the picture he'd probably benefit from less makeup and less eyebrow plucking if he wants to be considered more masculine. First thing that occurred to me as well.
EnderWiggin Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 What are you on about? They have half the DNA of a normal cell. It's still from that cell. Biology degree. _EW_
DeadYorick Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 I never thought Transexualism would go even farther. This should be up for debate in Kavar's corner
Aash Li Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 O_o I couldnt have said that better. Im sure there are a lot of mtf transgenders out there complaining that that isnt happening to them. heh
HerbieZ Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 Am i the only one that thinks this is really, really wrong?
glovemaster Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 Oh, turning marrow into sex cells is fine and cloning humans is wrong? Damn ethics make no sense!
Salzella Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 ^^ hah, yeah. Personally I would have thought that turning bone marrow into sex cells is worse than human cloning. But maybe I'm weird like that. And as for the first guy (hur hur), poor man (hur hur). Makes me want to find those kids who taunt him and beat them senseless. Little snots.
Jae Onasi Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 Meh, he just has a condition that creates too much estrogen. Find the cause of the condition, solve that, and then they'll give him an estrogen blocker and give him some testosterone and life will go back to normal.

Yeah but this is in the UK, the doctors probly met their quota for the month or something... >.> <.<
Inyri Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 We've obviously never heard of airplanes, or boats, or teleporters. There are doctors in the world outside England. OMG truth!
