Astor
Thats basically my point, not the £5 thing, but the fact that it's not really a movie, but what seems to be the first 3 ep's of a great series, and i feel people will judge it against recent blockbusters (I know it made big money, but content, animation etc) I still haven't seen it yet, but it's beginning to sound like releasing it in theaters may have been a bit of a mistake. Most people are saying that it felt like 3 episodes tacked together, but it's been admitted that it is - so maybe a theater release, while successful, is going to harm the prospects of the actual series doing well when it is released on TV? Well, if all the kids who saw it liked it, and it was aimed for them, won't they watch it on TV?
Darth_Yuthura
I probably would see it, myself it it were on TV. I just wouldn't watch it again if it wasn't entertaining. I think that the movie and show could have appealed to adults by adding a few more aspects to the plot. Although aimed for children, it is based on a classic set of movies that appealed to many of today's older fans. There's no reason they can't add some elements to attract the more mature audience. Less slapstick humor and some serious character development wouldn't detract all that much from what children love and it could go a long way to staying within the realm of the trilogies. Just because it's aimed at another audience doesn't mean you shouldn't maintain some ties to the adult fans.

There's no point if they all feel like walking out of the theatre, disgusted with the majority of the film.

Sabretooth
Just saw it, and to be frank, it was exactly what I had expected. Now it's time for my classic nitpicking. We start without an opening scroll, but a TV-series introduction complete with a baritone. Not surprising, seeing as this is, after all a TV series first and a movie second. The first one hour of this hour-and-a-half movie is utter chaos. Row after row of battle scenes are interspersed with something of a video game plot that involves a chirpy, likeable apprentice, a kidnapping and not-too-surprising evil schemes. I couldn't help but think that the movie was a video game. The narrative structure and the action scenes kept me thinking it was a console game from 2004 or so (judging by the graphics). The plot was simplistic, nothing too complex; not bad for a children's movie. It was carried out rather well, I'll give it that. Logical fallacies were abound. Anakin "senses" a dark presence on Tatooine when there is seemingly nothing around, but Obi-Wan can't sense Count Dooku ten feet away from him. Anakin returns to Tatooine, holding a crucial balance of getting to Jabba in time. Why couldn't he send Jabba a quick holographic message telling him that he's on his way and the kid is safe? The droids were dumbed down to make them funnier too much. That's not always fun. In one scene, a droid doesn't get co-ordinates barked at him. How is that possible? There were dozens more of such events! The last one hour was fun, and that was probably because it seemed to have more of a focus on what's going on. The clones were real kickass, I look forward to seeing more of them, like that pure genius Episode 2 from the cartoon series. Sadly, I neither see the finesse of that series, nor the awe of the original here. Still, I guess it'll work out well as a TV series. In any case, I know I won't miss it! TV shows tend to take a little while to hit their stride. Hopefully the same will be said of this...

Remember Padme Uncle purple Hutt to make the call to Jabba.
Char Ell
I went and saw this on Saturday and my reaction was generally, "Who is Lucas Animation trying to target with this movie launch of a TV series?" They are definitely targeting the kids but in some ways I felt the plot was fairly complex for the kiddies. So while I don't know what the younguns generally think of this movie I felt it was trying to play to adult and youth audiences but didn't really do a good job of either. It's Star Wars though so I'll watch it when it comes out on TV but definitely wouldn't pay to see it in a theater again.
Burnseyy
Seeing it tomorrow. Hopefully I'll be able to get away with being a 14 year old, and get in the cinemas for £4 instead of £6 unlikely, but trying never hurt. ...Much.
Prime
For those of you around here in the teen range what is your view of the padawan, either positive or negative? As an old geezer I reacted pretty negatively, but I'm wondering what the hip people think of her.
Totenkopf
Was going to see it on the big screen, but reconsidering as I've heard nothing good about it (that justified not waiting for it to hit DVD).
HerbieZ
I don't really want to see it. I'm a huge Star Wars fan but this doesn't appeal to me one bit, i'm just going to shelve it next to the holiday specials.

As an old geezer I reacted pretty negatively, but I'm wondering what the hip people think of her. Well I'm 17, so if that still counts, I thought she was fine, not a spectacular character, but not somebody terrible. Personally, I thought she was a great sidekick for Anakin and a good break from the good ol' Anakin-Obi-Wan partership. I was hoping to see more kickass lone action from Obi, though. I'd like to see what they do with her towards the end of the series. How will they explain she not being mentioned in Episode III and pretty much all other SW media? The most ominous answer would be that she's killed by Dooku or some such, but wouldn't that be too dark for the kids? Hmm. In any case, I know that my favourite episodes will be the ones where the clones kick ass.
Burnseyy
I saw it yesterday. I wouldn't say it was as terrible as some people are saying. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't good. The humour was a bit childish, but adults go to see children's films all the time, and like them. I'd say it was ok, but I wouldn't watch it again. Rachel_Ewok
I know this thread is kinda long now, but I'd like to throw my two cents in. I am not looking forward to this new movie/planning to see it (ever)... It's like... the bane of my life, it makes me *cringe* when I see commercials for it. Here are the five reasons why the Star Wars obsessed, fanatic, Ewok is not going to see this movie. 5. Does... it even make sense? Was this movie just made for someone with the initials G and L to make even more money off the helpless Star Wars fan? I think so! 4. This seems to be another attempt to get more Star Wars fans from the younger generations, look at all the merchandising! (Don't mind more Star Wars fans, do mind this movie) 3. The guy at McDonalds called the Ewok toy a little wookie. That made me throw up in my mouth... Being an Ewok and all. 2. Uhm, why does it not have the actual actors doing the voices? Who wants to go see a prequel era Star Wars movie, without Ewan McGregor's voice, Natalie Portman's voice, and yes,,, even Hayden's voice! Oh yeah, and did I mention that Frank Oz isn't Yoda? That doubly makes me not want to see it, and better yet, 1. Who wants to go see a Star Wars movie that is animated, in a severly ugly animation (just my opinion, to each his/her own I guess)... and doesn't even have the *real life* hotness of some of those actors? I know many a girl who went to see Star Wars 1, 2, and 2 just for Ewan and Hayden... and many a boy who went for Natalie. *nodnod* I just don't see what would draw Star Wars fans to this movie, and I'm missing what would also draw non-Star Wars fans to this movie... It has nothing that other Star Wars have... Not even Frank Oz, and believe me, that really ticks me off.

Negative Sun
Better late than never I'd say, just saw the movie today, and I loved it!!! I was really quite worried after hearing all these moaners going on about it, but it's excellent stuff, very good animation, decent storyline, awesome soundtrack (well suited for the fast-pacedness of the movie), kickass fights/battles... In one word: brilliant For those out there being all moody and whiny about it here's 2 things: - Shut up! - Like GL needs to do anything for the money these days, he just wants to keep his franchise alive for a new generation, understandable sincs Ep III was so dark and more mature than the other prequels. And come on, if this is for "kiddies" I'd take this over Jar Jar Binks any day...this is much much better than some of the stuff that goes on in the prequels. Sabretooth
very good animation, decent storyline, awesome soundtrack (well suited for the fast-pacedness of the movie), kickass fights/battles... Agreed, the soundtrack here was outstanding. Good break from the usual Star Wars themes and tracks. But I dunno about the animation. I mean, Crysis looks and is animated better than this, hell; Half-Life's Source Engine does better facial effects than whatever these guys did. I think I can almost just run this movie on my PC in real-time. Right, okay; not on my PC, but you get my point. And it's not like the graphics actually make it look great, like Grim Fandango or something. Palpatine, Padme and Obi-Wan looked totally weird. Commander Obi-Wan
Agreed, the soundtrack here was outstanding. Good break from the usual Star Wars themes and tracks. But, still, how can you not have a Star Wars movie, without John Williams? I dunno, that bugged me. More than most in the movie, apart from a few things.
