Remember, remember the fifth of November,

The Gunpowder treason and plot,

I know of no reason... Ah, whatever. Its Guy Fawkes. What are you doing?

Personally, ive always loved fireworks, but the rest of the family sees it as nearly literally burning money. :¬: Subsequently, getting fireworks in my family is quite hard.

I always liked Guy Fawkes for the fireworks, rather than the meaning of the holiday itself. Now, i just think of V for Vendetta. One of these days im going to set up a fireworks display to Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture. o_Q

I'm hoping to grab some before the shops close today, but it seems unlikely.

Fireworks in New Zealand are pathetic and lame compared to other countries, and theyre getting lamer as the years go by, thanks to the idiot 14 year old pyromaniacs and the idiot 40 year old drunks. At this rate, there'll be no fireworks at all soon.

At least theres the big display on the Wellington waterfront tonight. (20 minutes and 3 tonnes of fireworks, baby!)

Apparently its going to be set to a soundtrack. Not sure what its going to be though.

Remember, remember the Fifth of November,

The Gunpowder Treason and Plot,

I know of no reason

Why the Gunpowder Treason

Should ever be forgot.

Guy Fawkes, Guy Fawkes, t'was his intent

To blow up the King and Parli'ment.

Three-score barrels of powder below

To prove old England's overthrow;

By God's providence he was catch'd

With a dark lantern and burning match.

Holloa boys, holloa boys, let the bells ring.

Holloa boys, holloa boys, God save the King!

I didn't know it was celebrated in the colonies. :p

I dislike the whole day, mainly because it's never restricted to one day anymore, and some people seem to think that pushing fireworks through one's letterbox is terribly amusing. Also, as a pet owned I have to spend most of the night trying to prevent my cats from hurting themselves, and trying to keep my dog quiet.

I'm not a miser - I like fireworks, what I don't like are the idiots that go too far and cause problems for everyone else.

Ever since a couple brothers decided to create a movie that had something to do with Guy Fawkes, November 5th has been something of a global event, a calling card to millions of closet anarchists everywhere, more than half of whom don't know any more about anarchism than images of revolutionary riots and words of freedom and blood.

Come to think of it, I wonder if they know that the 5th of November is even supposed to be the celebration of a failed coup, and not the celebration of an anarchy, or the remembrance of a martyr.

As good as the movie was, I find it hard to believe that anybody could think that Guy Fawkes day was to celebrate Anarchism.

That and all the neo-anarchists out there don't seem to quite think things through.

Anyway, a 'happy' Guy Fawkes day (That doesn't sound right to me....) from a colony that revolted.

I dunno about our Orstralian friends, but it is celebrated in NZ. But afaik here its not really about Fawkes, but rather a holiday where traditionally you bring the family down to the beach in the evening with ya jeenduls and fush and chups, and blow up some fiyawerks. Everyone loves a good bang, and the annual big display sort of brings everyone together to watch.

I'm not an anarchist, I just think of V for Vendetta in the sense that it was a great movie.

That, and i think of the retardness of humans in general in regards to the gunpowder plot: The Catholics persecuted the protestants, the protestants persecuted the catholics, both tortured and killed each other, and neither were better.

Working for the counter-reformation and the overthrow of the Protestant Reformed Religion established by law and the Protestant Succession.

Naturally.

Yes, those silly Catholics and their gunpowder.[/Lutheran]

Happy Abortive Catholic Insurgency Day! :p
