Zoom Rabbit
Good for you, R15. What you're really doing is starting the journey to happiness. I think you have to have a license to own machine guns, anywhere in the US. It's federal. However, in my experience, the 'full auto' position on the fire selector should be relabeled 'waste ammo.' Rogue15
*happiness is belt-fed haha true, though they're starting to issue the revised M4 carbine with a full-auto, it has a heavier barrel so it could take the recoil without affecting accuracy i guess. Happy Birthday Ed!
Zoom Rabbit
Rearranged my living room. Crappy Chinese slide rocker gone, antique rocker brought out...DVDs closer to the teevee. Yard swords now in stand on top of teevee. Quit laughing at my aquarium style teevee. I ain't buying a new one until the old one finally quits working. And JVC made some really good sh*t. Almost all of my DVDs now categorized. The left stand is science fiction arranged by BSG, Star Trek, Star Wars then the rest alphabetically. The bottom shelf is samurai type slasher flicks. The right stand is anime on the top shelf, historical fiction arranged by date (naturally starting with LOTR back in the mists of legend) and Highlander on the bottom shelf. The humor movies, and my mother's movies are on another stand farther away... OCD? Nah...just particular about my movies.
Rogue15
geez, zoom...you could make the Game of Thrones style throne with all those swords you've got! I have my interview at the casino on Tuesday, it's for a surveillance position. I hope I land the job...asking for $12/an hour.

Ikhnaton
All I wanna say, Ed, is that if I were in your position, I would be treating every single item as a collector's piece and either keep it or sell it for top dollar. I wish my own father had a collection like yours does.
Wildstar
I did it already on FB, but happy b-day Ed! Should I catalog my bowling ball collection? I'll go in order acquired. Brunswick Custom LTD (old rubber ball; no longer fits my hand) AMF Gold Angle (old urethane ball; like first ball, no longer fits my hand) Brunswick T-Zone Red/Black/Gold (plastic spare ball, and the only non-Storm ball I'm currently using) Storm Hy-Road (thinking of retiring, but considering my options for reviving the cover) Storm Fast (the ball I've had my best scores with) Storm Reign of Fire Storm Tropical Breeze Black/Teal (solid version of ball) Storm Virtual Gravity Nano Storm Marvel Pearl Storm IQ Tour Fusion
edlib
I'm trying, Ike... at least with the guitars. The guns...? Well... I'd like to see them go to someone who is going to treat them with the respect and care they deserve. Selling them to a sheriff's deputy makes me happy in that regard... even if I don't get the absolute top dollar for them, they are going to a law man (for whatever it's worth...) I KNOW what the guitars are worth, and who they are worth that to. Looks like I may have someone willing to drive them up to Boston for me for a reasonable fee. Once they are home, everything else will get easier.
Zoom Rabbit
But what's under door number two? Let's get to the WW2 stuff... Wildstar, what are bowling balls made of? The last time I threw one was 1985, but it seems to me that they were made out of stone, or something very close to it. You mention plastic balls; is that something new? edlib
Yes, 'twas my b-day (properly pronounced bidet...) It was one of the longest days of my life to date as well. The hatch is in his back room... which every square inch is PACKED floor-to-ceiling with... stuff. I don't even know what. Ever see "American Pickers" where these guys go to some old barn in the backwoods to look for antiques? And they get there and it's so jammed that they have to climb over piles to get at stuff... well, it's very much like that, though I think I've already dug out the most valuable stuff already. (Funny thing: That's his favorite show...) I can't move enough of it to clear the floor to search for this hatch. This weekend maybe... If I can get to the screen door, I can move it out into the yard to start organizing... Though maybe not today... after yesterday I think I'm very, very close to my limit... I was on the verge of tears by the time I got back to my hotel last night... I'm hitting my wall. I think I need to take a "me" day today before I have a breakdown... edlib
Oh... and that back room? Completely un-airconditioned or unventilated and uninsulated... so when the sun hits the roof and comes through the windows it gets into the high 90's or low 100s with typical Florida humidity to boot... (As close to 100% as you can get without it raining inside...) There's about a less-than 20 minute window where you can move around in there without dying. Like the guys at Chernobyl... edlib
Sold all the guns to the deputy... $700 for the lot. He was thrilled! I'm sure I could have gotten a LOT more shopping them around (he told me as much...) But this way I have peace of mind, which is priceless. His family are avid gun collectors, so they will cherish and respect them. And now I have a friendly contact in the Palm Beach PD... so if I ever need anything resolved down here for my dad... He also said he will take whatever else we find, and pay whatever he can for them. I'll sleep better tonight.
Zoom Rabbit
Sounds good about the guns, Ed. Right to the next collector, and no middle man. Plus, good karma where it might be useful. I like your style. Can we at least get a picture of the WW2 stuff if and when it's unearthed? My curiosity is piqued... I recently had an experience like your deputy friend. My neighbor was helping her landlord clean out his old family home, and they came across two old bayonets missing their scabbards. I identified them as pre-WW2 Swiss pioneer bayonets...very scarce, because their wicked-looking saw backs, intended for cutting wood in the creation of fortifications, also caused horrific wounds when used as weapons, and they were banned worldwide. Only the antiques are legal to own, and then by collectors only; I paid $200 for the pair. It was a fair price, considering the missing scabbards. I made one scabbard from an old but cool-looking leather coat that was starting to fall apart. I have a red suede jacket from goodwill that I'll use to make one for the other. edlib
The mystery rifle that I found the other day turned out to be unloaded... and I've played enough Calla Dooty to recognize it immediately as an M1 carbine. That's a 30.06 I believe... The officer had never seen one, and had no idea how to operate it, so it was fortunate it was unloaded. It was missing the magazine. We'll probably find it somewhere in here. I didn't get a picture... He wasn't interested in the hunting knives, so I'll either pack them in with the guitars, or leave them here will the stuff to be sold/ donated. I have to figure out what to do with his fossil collection too. He was a fossil hunter in his spare time, and has a pretty impressive collection of them. He's already given or sold a bunch to museums as well.
Rogue15
looking at possibilities for a job closer to home, if i can't get a car to get to that one job, i'm gonna have to work within walking distance til i can build up my credit...even considering working at grocery store as a cashier. hmm..at least i better my chances of meeting girls that way, but idk i don't really care i just want to make mad $$$.. The last time I threw one was 1985, but it seems to me that they were made out of stone, or something very close to it. You mention plastic balls; is that something new? The earliest bowling balls were actually made of wood, but have progressed from that to rubber, plastic (polyester), urethane, to now something called reactive resin, a characteristic of which is actually oil absorption; you have to heat a resin ball at a controlled temperature to bleed the oil out of it. These are just covers, though...there's a solid core and a filler material under the cover of most resin balls.

The M1 looked similar, without the bayonet lug. Both rifles used .30 Carbine ammunition. Wildstar, I'm guessing the bowling balls I used were polyester. Everything was polyester back in those days...except the records, which were vinyl.
Rogue15
having second thoughts about getting a job that i need a car for....car's gonna put me out nearly a grand, a grand will get me rent til i start school, in school i get BAH which is 2 months pay via post 9/11 gi bill...plus i get refund checks, so i think i'll just have to extinguish the desire to get a job that requires a vehicle...not sure if i should still go to the interview so i can at least have my application on file in case i change my mind/get my **** straightened out..i can't wait til wednesday so i can talk to the shrink and maybe get some help as to why i'm all over the ****ing place. I decided it would be in my best interest to scrub the interview, and the car, wait til i graduate and have more $$$ saved up from the college money, then get a car and a job...just gotta hold my breath a little longer... Cmdr. Cracken
So, I handed my Chevy Cobalt over to the dealership I bought 'er from so they can hold on to 'er until the part for the recall comes in. My car is apart of the massive recall about faulty ignition switches. Due to my car not being in my possession and stuff, Chevy/GM is providing a Chevy Malibu rental car free of charge, minus fuel costs. It's niiiicceeee...... but I miss my Cobalt. ;_;
