It has nothing to do with pop society. I have my phone because it is a handy thing to have, not to look 'cool'. I hardly ever bring it out in public and I certainly don't pose with it. I answer all my texts at home when I have time. I'm sure if someone gave you a mobile for christmas, you wouldn't refuse it.

If I ever get a mobile, it shall be as big as a brick, eighties yuppie style, and the only ringtones on it shall be eighties music... I. Shall. Be. A. Misfit.

Besides, it's the phone bills that's gonna burn a hole in my pocket - ever since I made that slip up at work, my wallet's been very slim... :(

because, they will not have 'their own money' at the age of 11 unless they do underaged work such as work for Rhett. ;) They will have pocketmoney of course, but I don't think that is going to cover the cost of using a mobile do you? When they get jobs they are free to do as they wish with regards to their phones but until then I will be in charge.

I don't have one yet but when I get one I will use for better things than to just look cool. I will use it in case I ever need to contact my parents. I would also use to coordinate with my friends if ever we are planning to do something and we are on the move. Last but not least I would use to call my Girlfriend who lives in Wisconsin. We talk a lot and I have past expiernces with phone bills. It is a lot cheaper than using homephones. You also can get free night and weekend minutes. I would use it for stuff like that. I would never get a phone and pay money if I was just going to have it for looks. To me it would be a tool to use that would make things easier for me.

yeah i got one but i always forget to charge the battery so it's nearly always switched off.

it's got the indiana jones theme as it's ring tone cause i thought i would never get sick of hearing that tune, but i was wrong, everytime it rings i want to throw it out the window

I have a pretty nice Samsung phone, got it about a month ago. I like it, it lets me keep in touch with friends whenever I need to, or its good for emergencys. Sure, I can live without it, and I've never used the messaging thing yet. But it doesnt hurt.

Besides, it gives me free long distance, so if I have to call my friends out in the western NY colleges, I use the cell.

And technically, it's "cellular" phone...

I have a Nokia 6210. Nice phone, a pretty big brick of a mobile phone but it gets the job done:Dlol

To be honest I never used to use my phone that much. I'm on Vodafone 'Pay As You Go', and it used to take me about a month to use up my £15 so I could top up lol. Now I use it for text messaging a lot. It's expensive. Very expensive:(lol

My fiancee and I both are on the same cell phone plan and before we lived together this thing SAVED US SO MUCH MONEY. Its great when you get free mobile to mobile. Plus both of us are on the go so much it is very convienant to be able to get a hold of eachother especially with the baby on the way. Another reason I feel comfortable having it is because I work the Graveyard shift. I have to drive late at night - and I don't want to be stranded somewhere and have to walk alone in the dark to get to some sort of phone! It is also nice to have if your like me and never home. I think it is annoying when people abuse the phones though. It doesn't seem to make much sense to me when people have them go off at work or when your in line for the grocery store and people are having full blown conversations. But if its to say hey honey pick up some milk! Then I'm all for the quick use of the cell. I think the min age should be .... JR High maybe High School age. I would want my son to have one - and HUGELY make sure he is not abusing it or using it for personal calls. I would want it to have for emergencys. When he starts driving or to be able to call me in case he needed me to pick him up. You can have the cell phone be set up so it can only call one of the phones in the plan. I wouldn't want him just calling his friends during school!

I just sold my cell phone today on eBay. I used it for long distance calls.. much cheaper than the service, but alas it's not cheap enough, so bye bye phone!

I mainly found cell phones a huge annoyance though. People could get in touch with me whenever they wanted! Yuck!

Don't get me started on the ridiculous ring tones polluting my ears now...

Yes, I have one. I've had one for two years. My parents got it for me when I got my permit in case I ever needed help. It's come in handy more than once, and I'm glad I have it.

But I do find it extremely annoying when I see 10 year olds talking on them, being very loud and important-sounding on them. Or when it rings in the movies, or when one rings at a resaurant. For God's sake, turn them off, or put them on the rumble feature.

I've got a cell phone, and I love it. Free long distance, free mobile-2-mobile: its all good. It's actually cheaper than a house phone for what everyone in my family uses their phones for. In fact, we don't even have a house phone, we just all carry our cells with us. They're handy for letting the parents know where you are and talking to your friends if you're out and about. I especially like text messaging. I pay the extra $8 a month becuz I use it so much. This girl Charlene and I send at least 10 back and forth every day. I like the vibrate feature too, and how you can hit a button and say the name of somebody and itll call them. It's great.
