Cell Phones: Good or bad

Do you think it is a good idea for people to be driving, while talking on a cell-phone. I find it completely immature and dangerous. About 2 weeks ago my dad was driving behind this man who was talking on his cell phone. He was swerving all around the road, and it he appeared to me yelling into his cell phone. He ran a red light, nearly getting swiped by a pick up then pulled over on the side of the narrow road where we almost nailed him head on. Has anyone else had these kind of experiences. I'd appreciate it if some of you would share your views on people using cell phones as driving. :)

i think talking in the cell while driving is very dangerous.

you're not really aware of the road when you're driving and talking at the same time.

I agree, I know its not as bad as drunk driving but if you think about it is similar. Your mind is not on the road, you are more focused on the person you are talking to. When you drive you need to be very attentive to the road. Talking on a cell-phone diverts this required attention thus increasing the risk of an accident.

I think cell phones are thegreatest thing to have... The only thing I don't like about them is when people talk on them while driving, have em in school and they ring in the middle of class, and the worst one of all...

talk on a headset while going pee in a public bathroom :D I once overheard a convo where a guy was talkin into a headset but it looked like he was talkin to himself and he was goin pee... lol all of a sudden I hear "Oh, yea i found it." *pause* "Dang it slipped I think" etc... it was the funniest thing!!!

*slinks off before people throw stuff at him*

They are a good and handy thing to have but some idiots out there are on the highway dialing up their friends all swerving everywhere! i say no more than a 40 second talk only if needed!

I agree except I think not even 40 seconds

i say no convo at all

Because think about it...

I am on the highway in heavy traffic. I want to call a friend on my cell phone. During this time I have to find my cell phone in my pocket, dial the number, which means my eyes are off the road. And then while I am chatting I am not totally concentrated on what I am doing. During that time I was dialing the number anything can happen. It only takes a split second for an accident to happen my friends. So I say, no talking on a cell phone at all while driving. If you desperately need to talk to someone on your phone I say pull over, so you are not in any danger. It makes no sense to risk your life as well as others all over a litle phone call. If it is that important to you, either wait till you get home or pull over.

My 2 cents:)

I agree, my mom has a cell phone and when it rings in the car she answers it and talks, she's a bad enough driver without her cell phone(thank God it's not verry often.)

There are fines if you get caught though.

and once my dad was biking with head phones in his ears and a cop stopped him, he said it was his cell phone(and it was) and the cop let him go. the cop thought he was listning to a disk man. The funny thing is he was listning to music on his cell phone.

I think it's a fine to listn to music on a bike or somthing, at least in canada. lousy cops. not all of them just some.

well cell phones are nice and fines against talking on the cell phone while driving are good. but they go to far with those fines, I heard you can get fined for eating while driving. I don't just believe evry rumor I hear though, I mean come on, what are drive through restrants for?

well our government can be stupid somtimes, we don't buy intelligence with our taxes.

I've seen quite a few people driving with mobile phones not having a care about the road or the people around them.

I haven't encountered or seen any accidents take place because of them using phones while driving.

If there is alot of accidents, maybe they should be some laws against it ;)

My phone's obsolete anyway, if they release another new model I swear I'll.... :p

I agree partly with your post but I also respectively disagree too.;)

I agree about you hating the cell phone while driving part. But about the fines part, alot of places in Canada and the United States, there are no laws against cell phones while driving. Also, if you are riding a bike while listening to music that is fine, but if you are on a busy street you shouldn't be listening to music just in case an incoming car is going to hit you. Unlikely, but possible.

We need more strict laws about cell phones and driving. Yes there are laws, but do they follow them. Nope. They ignore them. Sometimes they will get punished but there arent enough cops to stop them all. There needs to be stricter laws.:)

i've used a phone while driving, i've gotten it out of the glove box, turned it on, pulled up the antenna, dialed the number, and hit send all while glancing back and forth, i just need to see the number i'm dialing, i can do the rest w/o looking cuz i know my phone well enough, and i've never swerved once, or even started coasting into another lane, so not everyone is a bad driver, cuz i can talk and drive at the same time

I've got a cell phone and I've used it while driving. I'm far from perfect........but I do think that they need a law requiring a special type of device in a persons car that allows them to drive w/o the phone on their ear. If they see someone with a phone to their head then they can write them up.

Cjais is right, talking on the phone diverts a persons mind from concentrating on driving and safety, no matter what that person believes. There is some similarities to drink driving, you believe you can still drive safe, but your judgement is affected unknowingly. In some ways, talking on mobile while driving is more dangerance than drink driving because of the preconception that its safe.

There are cars with hands-frees installed where you cam make calls without picking up the phone. Whilst this feature is designed to improve safety, researches have found that it makes driving even more dangerous than with mobile held in hand. This is because the driver are lulled into an illusion that talking on the handsfree is safe and relaxes so that even less attention is payed towards the roan than one would if he or she was holding the mobile.

Cell phones are indeed handy in emergency situations. Think about it, if you're stuck in the basement you can call for someone to get you out. Perhaps you're going down with an airplane, you actually have the opportunity to let your family know that you love them and give your last words. Or being mugged by someone, you can call for help. Mobiles (that's what we call them) certainly have their uses.

i talk on the phone while driving

::::dodges cell phones being thrown at her::::

But seriously, I only do it if I'm on the freeway and it isn't raining or dangerous on the road. I am still able to stay in my lane - and pay attention to my surrondings. Now if I'm in traffic - or dangerous road conditions I do not answer my cell phone. It is distracting. Some people however, the same people who cannot walk and chew gum at the same time, should not use their cell phone while driving. But then again there are already AWFUL drivers out there who don't use a cell phone and still cannot achieve the simple task of staying in their own lane!!

I think that having a cell phone is a good thing, but not while driving. It's good to have around in cause you run out of gas or your car breaks down, but I do get tired of always seeing people on them. Also when I'm in a Restaurant and some one's phone rings, they talk real loud and it's hard to hear yourself think!:disaprove: And another thing, when you are in a car with some one and their phoe rings, you're just sitting there, not saying anything cause you can't hear what the other person is saying. I think cell phones are good if used appropriately. :)

I like cellphones becaus it's fun to listen to the conversations, and let the people know you are listening with them (I'ts realy annoing for them)

So that's the good part.

But what I don't like is like At my work I try to explain something to a custommer.

And then they suddenly grab there phone caus it's ringing.

and start talking to the phone and holding up the other people waiting.

So I guesse thre are a lot positive and negetive things about them.

I don't have any and I don't want a cellphone either.

Cause I don't have the feeling I need one.

Btw In our country it's fotbidden to use a celphone while driving.

Only hands free is aloud.
