C'jais
LOL, anyone remember doom? - Spoof thread. Pretty good though. name your dvd collection - Why not how much RAM I have? Yawn. The Poking Destruction Game thing! - Eh? first...image sig...ever - Fair enough.... Greatest 100 Movies List --- Official - Good thread. lotr character generator - A generator topic. Talk about a topic. What is your favorite kind of pizza? - My favourite kind of pie? Say eh? Hockey - Fair enough, can't complain with people who love this game. Could do without the "GO!" factor. send in the clones - belongs in the Stories forum. Matrix: Reloaded thread. - Ok. But not just slap it on the already huge matrix thread? The say something about thread! - Game thread. Favorite character from lotr - The orc with the big ass sword. Next. Poll: goblins or orcs, lotr - The orc with the big ass sword. Yawn. Dark Forces 4: Jedi Knight 3: Jedi Outcast 2 - Ok topic. Word Association Game - Game thread. being stabbed over a snowball?? - Good topic. A Real Picture of the Spoon! - Blergh... Poll: do you like anime? - Interesting to the right people. Who is your role model? - Could be a good topic. But then it turned movie characters. Best...Model...Ever - Sure. Poll thread. Very Cool Illusion!!!! - Spoof thread. ..-::Stealth Games::-.. - Ok. Nothing Bad Is Going On - Ok thread, but really belongs in the feedback forum. -------------------------------- This is the lowdown on what's hot in the Swamp right now. Some may say it's normal, or even good. I tend to disagree. I refer to Stormhammers golden words: "This may be the designated off-topic forum, but it is not the NO-topic forum." Nope, this isn't another rant to the mods. This thread is dedicated to all my fellow swampies who populate it. Please. I know you can do better than this. Post story threads in the Story forum. Post no-topic topics in another forum altogether. Make sensible quotes: I've seen people who quote a two page long thread, only to post one line worth of their own. Don't act like 12 year olds. This is a suggestion to the mods: Make two new forums - The Poll forum. Other forums have realized this. Polls do not make good topics. Make a forum for the crowd that enjoys them. The Whine cellar. Make a forum for people like me who enjoy bitching, whining and debating adult stuff such as politics, religion and ethics. Should be a winner. Lastly, a question for the mods about spam rules: In some forums, (RSN) the spam rules are very lenient. Every topic degenerates into insane gibberish and chit-chat. In other, (GB) people are very uptight about spamming and generally a more serious bunch. I thought the spam rules applied equally to every forum? Aresen can only keep is people around threw pointless topics and a little talk here and there... as for GB... New people all the time there because they just got the game... Katarn07
Let the mods be the judges of that. I go to one that gets way off topic, but at least contributes to the making of the subject...
OnlyOneCanoli
I agree with you on a lot of points. The discussion in the Swamp (or lack thereof, apparently) is not at the standard that it once was. I like your two suggestions to the boards. A "Census" or "Poll" forum would do well to eliminate that sort of stuff, which I thnk is more often than not garbage, from the Swamp and clear the way for some light-hearted discussion (which is what I think goes best here). And a "Whine Cellar" forum would be feasible as well, as far as I can see. We could have stricter rules in there to prevent spamming, trolling, and flaming since the nature of the topics in the forum would be a bit more sensitive. I really think that the Swamp is no longer very conducive to these discussions, and is mainly the reason why I stay out of many of them. I'll bring your suggestions up with the other mods in the private forum. In some forums, (RSN) the spam rules are very lenient. Every topic degenerates into insane gibberish and chit-chat. In other, (GB) people are very uptight about spamming and generally a more serious bunch. I thought the spam rules applied equally to every forum? Not necessarily. That would be pretty impossible, seeing as there are different dedicated moderators for each branch of LucasForums, and a handful of Supermods who go to each separate board. I'd like to think that the Swamp is somewhere in between those two particular forums, and while I'd personally like to see it more like GB, light-hearted/slightly spammy topics that people have fun in is probably the best use of this particular forum. What you and I may think is a worthless topic may be a boatload of fun for other people, and we should respect that. This place is for fun, first and foremost, right? Camus
Yes this place is fun... and I like it the way it is... Taking away the polls and the arguments of the swamp leaves what??? Post games and one word stories... O_o which trust me... I try to avoid those as much as possible... there are a few head turners for me... K-jo'Round and a few other games... Rogue15
cjais, what you said sounds kinda NAZI to ME. if you were only here say....FOUR ****ING YEARS AGO!!! you'd understand why the forums are different, the forums weren't MERGED, and every place developed its own personality, to destroy that personality by enforcing ****ty **** rules on us would cause us all to just not really give a damn and people would leave and this place would be as desolate as dune sea at night cause the mods and admins would act like TUSKEN RAIDERS READY TO KILL WOOO BABY!!!!!!!!!! if i was an admin, i'd ban your ass right now, the loss of power would SOOOOOO be worth the feeling. If you thought i was serious about the last part, in the words of Rogue Nine: you suck!
Rogue15
also, why not ask the mods to put in an 'intelligent discussion' forum while your at it! hehehehehe CURSE THIS 90 SECOND POST LIMIT!!!!!!

This place is for fun, first and foremost, right? What he said. ^_^ To answer your accusations, Cjais, Aresen is first as foremost a fun forum, considering almost no one plays the old game Rogue Squadron anymore. It's about the community. @Camus: Pointless? Explain On topic: Actually, a Whine Cellar would be an excellent idea, I think.
ZBomber
CJais, your a good deabter and everything, but lately, all you have been saying is that the Swamp is awful. You've been saying that since Novemember. No offence, but no one cares. They are not going to change. If you do not like it, simply move to another forum. Rogue15
i think he'd appreciate http://forums.massassi.net their discussion forum is full of cool threads. cjais, you're a cool person, just stop w/the complaining of forums. I used to complain about the swamp alot, but now i think the swamp is getting better.
OnlyOneCanoli
That was pretty inappropriate, Rogue15. For a person who was here four years ago, I'd expect you to follow the rules a bit better. Please don't flame other members. He was raising a simple, harmless (and valid) question, not proposing a radical reform that would destroy your clique of posters. Rogue15
^ i thought you know me better than! i'm rarely serious when i flame! i could've gone to the extremes but then feelings would have been hurt and people would've been stabbed! and o no, we can't forget the-AAAAAHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i didn't flame him, i was just using my heated debate forum voice! Arreat
This place has changed ALOT since. The topics were much more spicy back then. Not that im saying these topics are pathetic, just yet not appealing as it once was.

Pedantic
You bring up some good points, Cjais, but, unfortunately, I think this thread would do well in your "whine cellar." And your avatar is really starting to bother me. It looks like he has a frickin' uni-brow!

BCanr2d2
Pedantic - I'd call it a monobrow!!! As for the supposed quality, or lack there of, it is each to their own... As time goes by, the mix of people change, they change interests and have more or less time to look at the forums... As long as there is little flaming, I don't have too much of a problem with any of it all....
Ratmjedi
I'm with you BCanr2d2. People come and go and so do their ideas. When I came here it was more serious and there were lesser spamming threads. Now When I browse the forum I see a $hit load of spam. Some threads are mostly dominated by the same people who say the same thing and really aren't adding anything new to the disscussion. I'm with you Cjais. I mean I have gone to GB and I like it their cause there aren't any spammers there. We have our occasional laugh but we are always serious and not making pointless threads. BlackDove
Guys, uhm, just a note. Creating the Whine forum will admit that the moderators aren't capable of doing their jobs here, therefore you had to make a forum that would be strictly regulated. Not only that but half of the serious posts from here would vanish, and what would we have here? Game threads?
C'jais
The "Whine cellar" forum was meant as a joke, but I'd be happy if you really want to do it. The poll forum I was serious about - Polls don't make for real topics. ZBomber, don't be too quick - I've only ever b!tched about this forum once (the mods, really). R15: Nazi? Go back to Aresen if you nothing to say. I can expect and respect people's need for some fun entertainment. But this has, IMHO, stopped being a "forum", and mutated into some sprawly kindergarten. I made this not to change the spam rules, not to create new forums - but to alert most people in here that the topic/maturity level in here has taken a sharp dive. If people like the way it is, fine, I can't change it. If not, can you guys recommend any forums in particular to me?
Darth Groovy
I'm glad your joking about the "Whine Cellar" because to me that seems like an exercise in negativity. To me that makes about as much sense as, selling real estate to crack dealers. I don't need negativity here, I have enough of that at home. Coming here is both the cure and fuel for my insomnia as well as an escape from my otherwise miserable life. I can definitely see where you are coming from though, and after reading the duration of your post you did include some good points. I think it should be a rule to not post a thread telling people you are leaving because someone disagreed with you about abortion or whatever. I'm with idea of a forum for poll topics, however if something like that DID get approved, then people are gonna want a forum for ever topic there is, (lotr forum, matrix forum, joke forum, cooking forum, whatever!) Also cjas, though I agree with you on the lack of sensible discussions, but you have to realize that most of our new members are between 10-13 year olds who do not have enough homework and are not old enough to have jobs, so they come here for something to do, and personally I would rather they came here and posted silly topics, rather than going out and getting into drugs and other mischief. Most of our older members are probably away at school or furthering themselves in some fasion. I have a positive outlook towards the new year, since I started in the summer, I think the summer of 2003 will be awsome when all the old members come back froms school and login and see that we have a faster more efficient server, with a plethera of swanky new features for them to use. I think in this case patience is everything. I would encourage moderators to step in and maybe post some new topics, as opposed to waiting for spam and flames to break out. I know that is hard to do as I just can't think of anything that would be of any interest to 10-13 year olds. Also we could do like the LFJA does where we encourage and help each other to do things more intelligently as opposed to attacking new members who might post something that seems silly or unnecessary to most members. Also just for future reference. When bringing up the issues of Abortion, Religion, War, Human Rights, or Sexuality, the potential for flames and arguments is inevitable. I'm not saying these topics cannot be posted, but I am saying that the society of these forums as a whole is not mature enough to carry on an intelligent discussion about such topics without arguments and disputes over each other's opinions. It will be 3 more years until a new Star Wars movie comes out, so in the meantime new topics are going to be a challenge, but if we work together, LucasForums can still be the best place to be, and we can all live happy ever after. wardz
The problems have come about as the community has grown a lot larger than it used to be. When the site first opened, a number of us had come from OWK.Net, which meant that we all knew each other and so on...The increase in numbers was manageable as they arrived in small numbers and got 'assimilated' (crude i know ) Then the forums merged together which meant a further increase in volume. The game came out, was popular for a while then started to die down a bit, which meant that whereas the Main Forum was the more popular one, the Swamp became the main hive of attention because less people were interested in JO...Who really wants to talk about it now? There was a time when the number of posts in the Swamp was about a third of that of the Main Forum, now THIS is where everyone goes to post. There will never be the community feel there used to be, simply because there is too many people here all wanting to do different things. Some see the Swamp as a place to post banal rubbish, while others see it as a place to have intellectual debate... Both of them should be welcome, but in moderation. I dont think that by over regulating the Swamp is a good idea, considering it is better left to let it evolve.. -W
