When my dad went to school they would strap left handers arms behind their backs and hit their hands if they tried to use their left hand. :swear:

Teaching children to use a certain hand which they may not be inclined to use can be harmful.

Now for some "facts" :)

The Roman punishment for adultery was often amputation of the nose.

Only 7% per cent of the population are lefties.

Babies are born without knee caps. They don't appear unil they are 2-6 years old.

Banging your head against a wall uses 150 calories an hour. Try it, it works! ;)

Dinosaur droppings are called coprolites, and are actually fairly common.

Moisture, not air, causes superglue to dry.

Your left lung is smaller than your right lung to make room for your heart.

A byte, in computer terms, means 8 bits. A nibble is half that: 4 bits. Two nibbles make a byte! :D

Captain Kirk never said "Beam me up, Scotty," but he did say, "Beam me up, Mr. Scott".

Donald Duck's middle name is Fauntleroy.

Cinderella's slippers were originally made out of fur. The story was changed in the 1600s by a translator.

I know most of this nonsense. I had this awesome World Geography teacher who told this kinda crap to us before class. It was great. The few SW ones were what number appears in 3 outta the 4 SW films (AotC wasn't out yet, and the answer of course is 1138) and the # of the trash compactor from ANH. 3826-3827, if you don't know...

*** He told us stuff to live longer. Become a female, right-handed nun with a long nose who plays second baseman on a ball diamond is the ultimate combo!!! lol

My new ambition in life is to prove that fact;)

More wierd and wonderful facts:

1. The average chocolate bar has 8 insects' legs in it.

2. A polar bear's skin is black. Its fur is not white, but actually clear.

3. You can't kill yourself by holding your breath.

4. It's impossible to sneeze with your eyes open (that clears up that statement:p).

5. Only one person in 2 billion will live to be 116 or older.

6. The sentence "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog" uses every letter in the english language.

7. China has more English speakers than the United States.

8. The highest point in Pennsylvania is lower than the lowest point in Colorado.

9. Nutmeg is extremely poisonous if injected intravenously. Who would try?:p

10. Banging your head against a wall uses 150 calories an hour.

That last one is my all-time fave:lol:

WTF? Why am I always the participant in these horrible coincidences? Bah, I don't believe it. They'd have to be doing it on purpose to get that many. :D

No, no, no, no. That is the legal limit if the food dudes who inspect it randomly take the bar, it can have no more than that inside. If it exceeds, the shipment is cancelled. I learned this from W. Geo and Consumer Management.

Well, as for the UK v Zanzibar war, I think the UK obviously still had an export treaty in tact with them, after all Freddie Mercury from Queen ended up in the UK.

As for the time of the passing of the law in regards to alien contact, wasn't the moon landing on either 21st or 22nd July, 1969? That's telling Buzz and Neil not to talk to the cheese miners on the moon!!

BTW Clem, I think the heart does not stop imbetween beats, it's more of a continuous action, as the heart fills with blood again. I think the actual stopping means nothing happens at all......

I think, if you look hard enough, there is also another set of numbers in almost all SW films - haven't spent the time to go through TPM and AOTC, it is 327.

the curse word F*CK came from england in the time of robin hood :D any persons wishing to reproduce needed permission from the king. he would give them a plaque to hang on their door whenever they were trying

the plaque read "Fornication Under Consent of the King"

thus born the word 'F*CK',

"wheres George? he never misses a beheading "

"oh he's F*CKing"

Wow, that's really interesting! I always wondered where that word came from.

Just for the record.... The "Two Fingered Salute" meaning "F**k Off" or "Piss off" originated from the war between the French and English. The French were fearful of our talented archers and anyone they captured had their index and middle finger cutoff so that they could no longer fire a longbow. The English would stick these two fingers up at any French armies within sight as a taunt.

Ok my turn...

1) To tell the temperature without a thermometer:

Count a cricket's "chirps" for 15 seconds and add 40. This tells you the degrees in Fahrenheit.

2) Penguins can jump 6 feet high.

4) A sneeze leaves your mouth at over 600 mph.

5) If your body temperature was 86 degrees, you could live to be 200.

6) There is enough phosphorous inside the human body to make about 250 match heads.

7) The first city in history to boast a million inhabitants was London, in 1811.

8) The first sperm banks opened in 1964 in Tokyo and Iowa City.

9) Man is the only animal that sleeps on its back.

10) Cows don't have upper front teeth.
