Stormies ARE clones!

This is a quote from on the the set diaries which are part of Hyperspace.

With the clones being assembled, the fodder of conversation turned to how exactly clone troopers and stormtroopers are related. By now, it's no surprise that the stormtroopers are indeed clones. But the nitpicky fan gripe that the troopers are of different heights and have different voices has not been lost on George Lucas. My cynical side points out that the only thing this descrepancy conclusively proves about the origins of the stormtroopers... is that these films were shot in the 70s.

"Well, they start to turn to different sources when they need it, that's why you get the differences," offers George as an explanation. "We get a model that isn't the Jango version, that doesn't bump his head on doors. But then we get versions that can't shoot straight," he laughs. "I can see the corruption in the Empire: someone says to the Emperor, my cousin would like to fight in the wars, but he doesn't want to do any of the actual fighting. Can you clone him? Well, can he shoot? Ah, yeah. Sure he can."

Thats a funny explaination. But it works, hehe. ;)

We're talking about the movies here. What happens in books is the imagination of someone else - not George Lucas.

People - trying to bring the EU into a movie discussion is just not going to mix. A lot of the books contradict what happens in the movies.

I'll prefer some EU theories over the actual ones, like the Death Star origins >.>

And I personally find it hard to believe that the stormtroopers in ANH up to Return of the Jedi would be the clonetroopers from before, I mean, in earthly armies, how many people in the military past 40 still do the grunt duty? >.> Most of them have either been promoted, retired, or been killed by then XD

What's to say that the Kaminoans aren't still pumping out fresh clones during the Original Trillogy? What happens to the older clones? Well, you're probably right about a lot of them being killed off in the wars, but maybe the Empire terminates the ones that are too old to serve, as well.

Or maybe they don't age. And maybe the pink dragons fly down and spray fairy dust all over the little jedi so they die quicker.

Wow... that was ambiguous yet sarcastic. Maybe you should add a quote from whatever you were replying to next time. But without that little bit of information, I will assume that you were replying to me.

I don't find it so very unlikely that Kamino is still contracted by the Empire to create clones during the Civil War; it's certainly a lot more likely than pink dragons and such. And, again, what's to say otherwise? Unless we see Kamino destroyed in Episode III, there's nothing contradictory in the canon, and Lucas himself, as quoted in the first post on this string, has said that the Stormtroopers are still clones.

The EU has not the standing to contradict Lucas, and Lucas' intent with his movies, so don't point to the clone ban in the EU.

I was just guessing about the termination of the clones, based on the fact that the Empire is a fascist state. Fascist states usually hold human life in very little regard, especially the lives of those people that they consider to be second-class citizens. Clones are used as fodder in the war, biological weapons and little else. I'd say they are a very good candidate to be comsidered second-class, therefore the notion that they would be terminated when they are no longer effective seems consistent with what we know of the Empire.

I would have to say that the canon is stupid. No offense, but Zahn's theory makes a whole lot more sense.

It'd be much cooler to have the clones go stark raving mad and need replacement with the regular brainwashed recruits. And of course, after the collapse of the Imperial superstructure that's what happens (in the EU, that is). But It would still be cooler that way. Or at least that's my opinion.

you guys are ripping eachother appart over this chill out gawd!

I am sure Lucas will come up with something to explain the stormtroopers...maybe. Thats a lot of explaining to do I mean...they cant aim for beans, hit their heads on doors, say themost retarted lines ever "Hey! You There!" and things like that.

Perhaps the more clones are made...the worse they get, I mean lets say you had a VHS Movie and you copied it....over and over and over and over...by the time you are done the last copy you made is not even close to the quality of the original.

Here's my theory. Jango is dead. In AoTC it seems to me the reason Jango stays on Kamino is because they need fresh DNA with every new batch of clones to make them the right way. Now with jango dead they have to use genetic material from one of the clones. this leads to problems in newer batches. The stormies bump their head and don't shot straight because the have second hand jango dna and probably have experience some form of inadvertant genetic mutation(could explain the different heights and voices).:jango::fett::clone: : :trooper::snow:

I have no problem with the canon or EU explainations, to me they are both interesting and both work, but whats canon is canon. Lucas didnt try to be different than Zahn, I doubt he didnt even considered Zahn. He is George W. Lucas the creator of STAR WARS! In comparison (and no offense to Zahn or the EU) Zahn is just some writer who made up a fan story about Star Wars that is not to be compared with the REAL Star Wars made by Lucas! Case closed I say.
