Very true. They would be the two that I would recommend, but if you want to get in the mood for Empire, there's Napoleonic Total War - it's very good (although there's only custom battles and multiplayer), and it's doing a good job of keeping me occupied till March 4th!

Total Realism is very good. But personally, I prefer 'Roma Surrectum'. It's got just about the same level of realism.
But really, it's down to personal preference. I don't know if you've seen it before, but there's a list of mods and their forums here on TW Center.

Unfortunately, I think LA would do something horrible to it.
One of the best RTW mods I have played it the LOTR one - I only bought the Alexander expansion to play it, but it was worth it - watching as 350 elves stand against 1000 orcs is amazing.
That's the other thing that makes them so great - their mod-friendly. I'm not sure how the new requirement of STEAM will affect this, but i'm hoping there's going to be some good ones for Empire.

I think they would have to go back in time, as without some extreme changes to their current engine and style of play, the Modern era would be too difficult to represent (planes, formations and tactics would be difficult to do on such a scale).
The 20th century would definately be complex, if only due to the massive changes that took place - we went from using Cavalry to Helicopter gunships in only 80-100 years!
The Big three eras have already been covered (Classical, Medieval, and now Early Modern), and of course the Shogun era of Japan, so I can't see where they would go - there's a thousand possibilities, and only Creative Assembly have any idea. But, whatever they do, it'll be certain of success.
But, they could always venture to the future - but that would be a departure from their previous games.
Besides, we've got a good two to three years of Conquering/Defending India to look forward to yet!

It was English for all in Medieval. I couldn't play as the French or Germans because they sounded as if they were straight from Monty Python.
The native languages is a far better approach - and, I have it on good authority that we can rename individual units and ships - I'm expecting a lot of 'HMS Pwnzalls' and similar stuff.
Uniforms are pretty well done - the only exception is that for European armies it's the same officer in a different colour, so i'm hoping it'll change. And i'm with you on the excited part!
-
No problems. What's more, is that with this Total War game, there are no more silly accents - soldiers speak to each other in their native language!
I can't vouch for the accuracy that the uniforms and so on have, but there's definately bound to be mods in the works ready to fix any glaring errors.

Hey Sabre, I found an Empire: Total War screenshot that may interest you...

No problems . I've personally never liked Valve, or Steam, but it's forced my hand - at least it's a surefire way of keeping a game up-to-date, and it'll mean it'll be easier to play online.
And I never did get Hornblower, but ITV3's been showing it on Sundays - so i've seen most of them! I think The Frogs and The Lobsters is the one of the best ones, but it's difficult - the whole series is so good!

I would hope they end up at the IWM - I can't see the government pressing them into service! And, as you say, the gold might help the economy just at the right time.
And the snow isn't too bad here - or, at least, not as bad as London and the South-East. I measured three inches last night, but there's said to be more on the way...

Seems someone hit the motherlode...
$1bn of Booty! And I certainly shouldn't have liked to be on the recieving end of those 12 footers!
How are you, anyways? Much snow across the sea?

Nothing too complex -
Name,
Age,
Appearance (can be as simple/complex as you wish),
Biography (feel free to write as much or as little as you like),
Any equipment,
And, if your character does have experience with the supernatural, how they came to have it.
I think that should about cover things.

Thank you. I'll put them on my 'to-watch list'. I believe i've seen bits of a few of them, and I have seen Genesis (that seems to be a favourite for TV reruns).
I'll be sure to check them out.

I'll be honest - i'm not sure. Unfortunately, although I love Tom Baker's doctor, i've only ever managed to see a few of his episodes - I know, it's shameful!
I am, however, doing my very best to catch up. Can you recommend any particularly good episodes?
