At the museum, Guybrush complains that he is not mentioned anywhere, even though all the exhibits have to do with his adventures. To this the curator replies: This gives us already a small taste of the ending, which basically says the same thing. There really are nice foreshadowing details in this game!

Return to Monkey Island π¨GAME-WIDEπ¨ Spoiler Chat
BillyCheers replied to Jake's topic in General Discussion
Do you have some examples for that? Because I was worried that there would be too many puzzles in ReMI like in the other games. Sure, we had 5 keys to find here instead of 4 pieces of cards. But I somehow minded that much less than in CMI/EMI where you had to do sword fights again and had to collect crew members again... It never felt like a rehash in ReMI to me.- 706 replies

Ah, I see. It sounded different in your post or I misinterpreted it. Then we're on the same page. The idea that the t-shirt is the prize of the secret may very well have been a thought when making MI1, yes. It was much, yes. But I pretty much enjoyed all of it. And I think it's totally okay for a game/movie/whatever to play this much with nostalgia β especially for this game with this story. It's always the question of how it's done.- 706 replies

Return to Monkey Island π¨GAME-WIDEπ¨ Spoiler Chat
BillyCheers replied to Jake's topic in General Discussion
Good for you. I just donβt. To me it isnβt obvious. To me the revelation that the secret is that itβs all an amusement park makes more sense β even back then. The T-shirt is a nice gag, but the amusement park has a meaning for the characters and everything else, all established in many anachronisms. And as I said: the plaque is a clear sign to this. But in the end we might even never know for sure β and it also doesnβt really matter. Itβs fun to think about, but the secret never was really important to me. Funny enough it got important to me with this game. And thatβs really cool.- 706 replies

Return to Monkey Island π¨GAME-WIDEπ¨ Spoiler Chat

It's interesting how even the opinions on the Ron's original secret seem to differ. I've read several times now that it seems to be the T-shirt. To me, that's just a gag that refers to MI1, while the real secret is the whole amusement park. The game also hints in that direction in my mind, as the plaque that reads "The Original Secret by R. Gilbert" is on the other side and ultimately applies to the entire room. Either way, I still think it's so well done, because Ron has kept his promise - AND has given us more on top of that. He doesn't just say "Here's the secret you've been asking for all the time. No shut up." He (or he and Dave) have continued to think about it and develop it further.- 706 replies

Return to Monkey Island [SPOILER FREE]
BillyCheers replied to ThunderPeel2001's topic in General Discussion
Yeah, I guess you're right. But it would already be great to have the more prominent different variations of the themes. I thought that by recording the game audio (with voice, effects etc. on mute) while walking slowly from scene to scene could at least give some sort of suites with the nice transitions β but that'd be no definite solution of course. -

This is great, thanks! I was already preparing myself to record it myself from the game β this should be a lot easier. Starting to compile my Soundtrack album right now. π -
When Guybrush tells the pirates in the SCUMM Bar, that heβs after the Secret of Monkey Island, one replies: βHa! Itβll turn out to be a T-Shirt or something.β Great foreshadowing! π

Hmmm, to me that doesnβt mean that the MI2 ending didnβt βhappenβ. It just means that in this version it plays that way. But in another telling/replay of the events it happens like in MI2 β and both are somehow true/real. β¦ or are they? π€ I just love how everything in the games can now mean everything and nothing.- 706 replies

Favorite references to previous games or other games?
BillyCheers replied to Colorfinger's topic in General Discussion
I think thatβs what I liked most about this game: It doesnβt feel like βRonβs showβ only. There are so many layers that acknowledge the other games and other media in a great way. It kind of feels like Ron has grown up a bit since his earlier statements about a Monkey 3a and that he really knows what this franchise mean to the fans. It feels very welcoming to everyone β without betraying his own thoughts and ideas. And the best thing: He revealed his original secret (which is okay), but also gives us enough to make our βownβ secret out of everything. Itβs really kind of genius. (Also itβs funny how some people complain about the ending, while itβs clear that they didnβt understand it at allβ¦). As everyone, the more I think about it, the more I like it. -

To me the most unexpected reference was the one to Jack Sparrow when asking about the coffin. Liked that a lot, considering the connections of MI and Pirates of the Caribbean. -
Control scheme for Switch **chefs kiss**

Yes, the controls were great! So whole game felt very fluid and nice to play. The best in the series. Only downside: Now I want remasters of MI1 and 2 in that style. π -

First of all: What a great game so far! I was even more amazed by the whole look and feel than I expected: the animations are fantastic, the voiceover is great, the dialogues are charming and funny (without being too silly or forced). I love all the little details - and I especially love the music (it's so good!). As for the beginning, I have to admit that I was a bit disappointed at first, because I expected a bit more of a "resolution". But maybe, as a non-father, I'm also missing the emotional connection a bit But thinking on it a bit more, I think it's very well solved and certainly the best possible solution to the strange ending of MI2 (if you have to pick it up.). I'm also pretty sure that anything else would have disappointed me much more. It's very well done, is fun - and how can you not like Little Guybrush? And as others have pointed out, it solves many other problems regarding details, incontinuity, the other sequels etc. ⦠so I'm totally fine with it in the end!

Return to Monkey Island [SPOILER FREE]

SAY IT!!! -
This may not be a unpopular opinion per se, but this is where this thought fits in the best, I think: Monkey Island fans are some of the luckiest in the world! Why? We have two great games as a base, three really good sequels that are fun and never really boring (you can argue about the story here and there). If you compare that to other game series where there are really bad sequels in between, we've been pretty lucky, I think. And now (TODAY!) we get a sequel from the actual creator, which will reveal the two biggest mysteries of the series. But wait, there's more! In all games we have solid to fantastic artwork, the same main composer with great working partners by his side, great voice acting without replacing the main character etc. And all this over a period of more than 30 years, with no oversaturation (so far), so that every new game was/is an event. Not to mention this great community here! All of this brings me to the conclusion: Yes, we Monkey Island fans are pretty lucky!

Itβs gonna feel weird seeing this thread being closed and not pop up again every few hours (or minutesβ¦ or seconds). π Thanks everyone for the nice discussions, those were some awesome months with you! Iβm looking forward to all those interesting conversations about ReMI in the other threads. Although Iβm still a bit unsure how to handle the spoiler subforum to not get spoiled accidentally. π§ See ya there. π₯³

What a great, long interview. You represented the community very well, @Marius & @elTee! I've wondered (also with all the other interviews on other websites) why there's no upload of the interview on YouTube. This would be so great! Especially Ron, I could listen to him talk for hours - and I'm sure your reactions are nice to experience, too.
