  3. I've seen this game in a Nintendo Direct somewhere, and wanted to make a mental note of it, but after that I forgot all about it. Thanks for reminding me, I might check this out if I ever finish Zelda.
  4. Wasn’t SMI the first game to do so? I remember the ship in the Governor’s Mansion really coming at you, and a friend of mine actually got startled by it. Other than that, cool project! And it’s great that you’re so thorough on it, JPL!

  7. I agree with Thunderpeel. I recently re-watched KotCS in preparation for DoD and it pretty much confirms what I said about it earlier, the first half isn't that bad. It kind of starts to waver at the burial ground, and from the Russian camp on, it's just bland. The set-up with Mutt is pretty good, but the characters get no chance to come to terms with each other after they find out that they're father and son. It's set up like Ford and Connory, but there's no real payoff. I agree with the part about Marion too, she argues with Indy in the back of the truck, then he says "They weren't you, honey", and after that they don't really share any emotional scenes together until they get married. No wonder... The first half is pretty well setup. The only flaws I think come from the "tell, don't show" script they're acting from. It's riddled with anecdotes that don't really add anything to the story, "you rode with Pancho Villa?", "Indy served his country during the war", and the worst offender of that is Mac. How are we ever supposed to connect with a character who instantly betrays Indy and then, after the fact, get's a line like "but we we're on so many adventures together". It just doesn't work that way, and the writers, Spielberg, and everybody on set should've known better.

  9. You make a good point, @Gins. I think the reason for people to discuss the de-aged Ford instead of the younger Indy is because that, and the AI they used to pull it off, is a hot-topic at the moment. Plus, since it’s conception it has mainly been used to show off bells and whistles instead of adding to a story. Then there’s the fact that casting a younger actor for a teen version of a character has been done countless times, and is (maybe therefore) easier to swallow for an audience. The fact that this steers away from the uncanny valley effect (because we as an audience all see and know it’s a different actor) makes it easier to divulge in the suspension of disbelief, whereas with de-aging, it looks almost real but not quite, so we subconciously go looking for mistakes as to prove we’re being tricked. I was sceptical at first, because the feel of the Indy films, to me, relies very much on practical effects and the grit that comes with filming that way. A CGI de-aged Ford to me sounded like everything it shouldn’t be. However, I stand corrected. In the light of the story ánd the fact that this is the last Indy movie, I think the prologue scenes work very well. They not only set up the McGuffin and the bad guy, but also show us how far Indy (and we as an audience) have come since the character’s heydays. The de-aging is far from perfect, but I think It’ll become less distracting with multiple views.

  11. I’ve been avoiding this thread since the IGN review was mentioned, I just wanted to go in fresh, without reading other people’s opinions. But now I’ve finally seen it!!! And to be honest, I really really liked it! I was really sceptical at first because no movie hero is so dear to my heart as Indy, and I was so scared that there’d be another mediocre at best movie tacked on to the original trilogy. Some of you might remember my scepticism of the de-aging technology and the fact that they shot this digitally. I’m very pleasantly surprised though, and I’ll elaborate in spoiler tags…
  12. Good question and thanks for asking! I would LOVE an interview with both Bill Farmer and Nick Jameson about the game. I've heard in some snippets of other interviews that they liked working on it, but to hear them both talk about it in person would be a dream come true!
  13. Just read the article, and I have to say I'm with Remi on SeMI. But anyone who's on board, I hope you have the ride of your life! I do love how every Monkey Island announcement brings the forums back to life! For that I thank thee, SeMI!
  14. My guess is that if they didn't ask Ron, they wouldn't ask Tim or Dave or any of the sequel writers either. I do think Rare had a really good sense of humor in the Donkey Kong Country/Banjo Kazooie days, but I have no idea if anyone involved in those games is still on the team. Haven't really played any of their games since they split with Nintendo.
  15. I guess we have different horror visions. I'd rather have a franchise be left alone gracefully then for it to become the next Disney cashcow. As for the moment though, I don't see that happening, so I think we're safe in that regard. I just get a little antsy when a franchise I love appears in unexpected places with people working on it who don't have any previous relation with it. I do think Disney is slowly paying more attention to this franchise and the buzz it's been getting. Especially since they can't quite seem to kickstart Pirates of the Caribbean anymore, but do know the hype those movies brought.
  16. This is my biggest fear (at least regarding MI). I'd rather have it stay in obscurity with the occasional gem appearing whenever we least expect it... But I guess capitalism's gonna capitalate. (is that a word?)
  17. Hm. I’m surprised, but not overly enthusiastic. It seems like a huge love letter to Monkey Island, without really bringing anything new to the table. I love the amount of detail they put into this, with getting the original cast (although, is that Jess Harnell? He sounds different,) and the amount of locations and winks to the lore, but the trailer doesn’t seem to do anything but “show fan favourites” and, to me, seems kinda fan arty because of it. The art style doesn’t help either. I’m curious to how this unfolds, but seeing I don’t have an XBox nor Steam, I doubt I’ll ever play it. (Btw. Guess we’ll finally know for sure which way the alley is connected to the main street in Mêlée Island.)

  19. Fans think Microsoft is teasing Psychonauts 3. This could be one of the reasons Tim Shafer didn't have anything to do with ReMI. So, who's up for it? I certainly am! Although I would definitely like to see a new original IP from Tim Shafer too! I just don't hope it'll be an Xbox exclusive though, as I'm mainly a Playstation and Nintendo gamer.
  20. I don't think the original poster wants Grim Fandango to be made in Bill Tiller's style, just Escape from Monkey Island. My two cents, I'm replaying EMI as we speak, and I think there is so much more that's wrong with the game than just the art style. It actually barely feels Monkey Island-like to me. The humour is just wrong, Guybrush is turned into a real buffoon of a character by the dialogue alone, and the plot is way too convoluted and filled with plot holes. Also, during this playthrough it's clear to me that the game had a much smaller budget than CMI or Grim Fandango, probably because LucasArts was shifting away from point click adventures. You'll notice the cracks if you look carefully, from the reused music all around, to the awful texturing in some of the backgrounds and the reusing of character models. Also the cutscenes are terrible. They feature close ups on some very bad texturing (Grim Fandango at least blurred those so it wouldn't be as noticable), and some of the cut scene shots are made in engine, which makes me wonder why they included them in cutscenes to begin with. The most positive thing I can say about it, is that in the light of the 'revelation of ReMI'...

  23. Dear Aaron, I finally got around to testing your fabulous interpreter with Escape from Monkey Island, and it looks, sounds and plays absolutely fantastic! Couple of nitpicks: - The game sometimes reloads the conversation tree options after you've selected an option and the characters are already talking. If you select an option, the new conversation will play through the old conversation. - After playing insult sword fighting with Ozzie Mandrill on Lucre Island, the arrows with which you can select the insult don't disappear. They did disappear eventually, but I don't know quite when. - Sometimes the 'enter' button doesn't respond while mapped to X on my PS4 controller, (but this might just be a bug of the Enjoyable software.) I'll report it if I find anything else. Playing this on a 2.3 Ghz MacBook Pro with Ventura 13.1 with PS4 controller hooked up through Enjoyable V1.2.
