Sorry to break it to ya Matrix Reloaded die-hard fans, but apparently the movie didn't do well enough, because according to the latest figures, Pirates of the Caribbean ( A VERY GOOD MOVIE indeed) passed up Matrix Reloaded movie and is the #2 film of the year, just behind Finding Nemo.

You are right, Pirates of the Carribean was a SUPERBLY EXCELLENT movie. I'll take pirates over bullet-time any day of the week. ;):p I'm joking, it really doesn't matter, The Cheat is right though, it all leads up to Lord of the Rings: Return of the King. ;) Finding Nemo was a pretty good movie, I'm not suprised it was #1. :D

apples and oranges boy, and take it from this sith lord produce, you be talkin' crazy sillyness. Reloaded came out in May. may is NOT SUMMER. Pirates came out in SUMMER, summer is NOT MAY. and Reloaded is being played still in IMAX. PIRATES IS NOT!

I loved Pirates, but mister silly pants film cricket;

get yo facts straight before you be making foolish

threads like this one.

Darth Eggplant ---> I never said it was the #2 movie of the summer ... I said of the YEAR... Big difference. :D

So there you have it:)

I think that has mostly to do with the American filmgoing audience - most of them are barely smart enough to buy a ticket, let alone understand a complicated and brilliant plot like the one in the The Matrix Reloaded.

They need a movie where we see a half naked girl and a bunch of stuff gets blown up (T3) or a movie whose plot was so predictable it could've been written by a 12 year old (Pirates of the Caribbean). It was good, but it was a mindless, brainless movie that added nothing to the history of film... at the end of the day, it's just another movie that made money, like Dumb and Dumber or Ace Ventura.

Do you know how much The Matrix borrows from the Terminator franchise?

Oh and I think the Matrix had as much stuff blown up as there was in Terminator 3 (which didn't make as much money as Reloaded)

I shouldn't really be so offended by this thread as I'm not American but preferring Terminator 3 to the Matrix Reloaded doesn't measure your intellect.

Also I'm thinking you forgot how successful Reloaded was in the States.

damn right! *high fives obi*

:D

besides box office receipts don't always reflex the quality of the movie.. i mean look at home alone. family films always do better

revolutions to going to kick ass

we have entered a weird alternate universe where Matrix Reloaded is cited as an example of "intelligent" movies in order to degrade dumb american action blockbusters that are all big computer generated explosions and no plot... somebody pinch me.

From such promise, it has actually turned out to be a pretty terrible year or so for movies. The latest bond started well, but degenerated into exactly the dumb-action-movie mentioned above, matrix reloaded conned a lot of people into thinking it was actually clever, and was boring, spy kids 3 was a huge let down, the hulk was ok, but disappointing, POTC was great fun, but hardly a classic. I can actually only think of a couple of films i have enjoyed this year... T3 was much better than i expected (even if JC was a wuss) but not a patch on the 1st two. X-men 2 was probably my favorite of the year.... but even that wasn't an all time classic.

All hopes rest on Kill Bill and Return of the King.

oh, and i watched Freddy vs Jason at the weekend... excellent stupid old-school horror with lots of blood. :D

It made alot more (350M If I am correct) and T4 (you forgot the rest of the world's box office count) script is nearly compelted.

Funny Futurama quote

"the USA is part of the world"

Fry "Wow I have been gone along time!"

Classic.

I dont like how you are assuming some...oh wait...most...hell I could even say all beacuse you said "they" combined with "most" Anyway, I find it offending that you are calling Americans "barely smart enough to buy a ticket"

Pirates of the Carribean was an excellent movie...and its not about the history of the film because its FANTASY.

I could go on about black people, africans, brittish, french, germans etc etc are retarted and silly, but I wont because it will get me in trouble. I only think it is fair and appropriate for you not to do so with Americans. Also Britian wouldnt even be on the map anymore had the smart Americans not helped them in World War 2.

also I never go see movies in the theaters, I have a steady supply of bootlegs that I recieve. I wonder how fast I can get ROTK:D My reason for saying this is...if its this easy for me to get them, then I am sure there are LOTS of others getting bootlegs as well...so you can never count on box office figures to be totally accurate, they can only be an estimate/guildline.

As far as I know Eldritch aint British however I am a resident there and thats aload of bollocks Britain wouldn't be on the map because it was Soviet Russia who truly beat Nazi Germany not America.

Also Britain fought them off at the Battle of Britain (their finest hour, I'm not British so I can't say)

However I agree with the principle that what Eldritch said was aload of ignorant self rightgeous bollocks.

:o gee come to think of it, this thread has nothing to do with summer movies vs those out in may, boy do I have egg all over my aubergine.

anyhow as da Groovster says, if you like a movie it does not matter what film crickets say. right now Toronto has too many film crickets as it is film festival time. anyhow about my first post in this thread, never mind.:D

well that is somewhat true, but do you know what stopped Russia from going on and taking over the rest of Europe? Our Atomic Bomb, which they did not have at the time. Also, lol, this is funny...my environmental history teacher got a little off topic today and well he called the Czar of Russia the "A-hole of Europe" so I said "which one?" and he replied "All of them!" dunno, I thought it was funny.

And if Eldritch IS American, what ignorancy he possesses.

Russia taking over the rest of Europe is an orthadox stance that over the years has lost its credibility as a Historical interpratation.

The Atomic bomb wasn't needed; the Japanesse were willing to give up anyway.

America isn't the saviour of Europe however MArshall aid was a God-send ,but the Europeans would have eventually got themeselves out of that rut.
