He was a Florentine(IIRC) and his most famous creation was "The Divine Comedy" where he jouneys with the old Roman poet Virgil, through Heaven, Purgatory and Hell.... The descriptions of what he sees in hell, which refers to as 'The inferno' is quite florid and a bit gory. He even maps out in detail what part of hell you would fall into depending on what sin(s) you may have committed.... His description of 'The Devil' is amazing.....a huge creature sitting on a vast plain of ice...... My intrigue with Dante was moreso for the fact that he became infatuated with a girl(Beatrice) when he was 9(or so), after her seeing her only once, and was apparently deeply in love with her till the day he died, though he never saw her more than that one time.....
