I suspect they may be of the "early adopter" type who has to have the newest, latest thing.

Nationally the DS numbers have been better than the PSP, but then it is cheaper. Memory Sticks (overpriced, proprietory) are the bane of most sony products, and their price really limits the use of the music and movie functions. Nice extras though they are.

It will be the games that decide which one wins (though i think they'll both do ok) and at the moment the DS range is looking weaker. (although also cheaper, more female friendly and more backwards compatible).

THPS2 Underground and Lumines look awsome on the PSP.

Nothing apart from warioware touched grabs me so far from the pathetic DS launch... though versions of Advance wars, Pokemon and Zelda should be cool and sell well.

But at the moment neither has a strong enough catalogue to sell me. PSP has more of the online "hype" going... but online people are naturally more techie and impressed with advanced features than the general public.

If the PSP gets decent wireless internet browsing and organiser untilities from hotspots that might be the deciding factor for me. Other than that, its the games...

PS/ though the dreamcast analogy might be right, timing wise... as having a "more powerful" console launch just after you can kill you like it did the dreamcast. That said, DC looked like a great console, i'm even theinking of buying one on ebay...

I have a dreamcast. I loved it. I'm keeping mine. I loved playing Crazy Taxi on it. Shenmu is a lot of fun. RPG Game. I have Soul Calibur (great game). It had awesome graphics. I think it was an awesome awesome system.

These days - I just wish they'd start putting some great games out there for us.

I mean all that they are making with the regular consoles are basically mini pcs with barely any hard drive, and a controller.

They need to show us some VERY VERY Awesome games that would interest me in investing in another console or hand held console.

They are doing nothing graphics wise that looks any different that the last games we've played you know?

Yeah. I've rented CT on my game cube, and I have CT 2 on my dream cast, that game is alot of fun. I've heard great things about Shenmue, and I love Soul Calibur two. The dream cast is one heck of a system, but I think they are WAY over priceing games for it now. I mean, the yaren't even NEW anymore! Besideds the really expensive games, it's an awsome system. That's why I will NEVER sell mine.

Well, i've been looking at a few of the upcoming DS titles, and it looks like this system MAY have a future after all.

Goldeneye: Rogue Agent looks pretty good for a handheld shooter (something the DS may be quite good at)

GERA_NDS_1.jpg

THough why they don't release the original goldeneye is beyond me. I wonder who has the rights between nintendo, ea, rare and others...?

Advance Wars DS (shouldn't that be DS Wars?) looks pretty cool. Whith the touchscreen to control units and the top screen for animations and battle closeups.

Viewtiful Joe DS looks like it will rock! And (as you might expect) they are coming up with some cool uses for the touchscreen, including a Slash Edit VFX that allows you to shash across the screen to attack.

And some of the upcoming 80 or so games sound cool, especially Katamari Damacy, Baten Kaitos, Shogun Warrior (looks like a mini shogun total war) and Secret of Mana!

Who knows, maybe it will be cool after all... though if these games come in too late everyone may well have passed it over for the PSP.

I think it's because the evil bastards at EA own the rights to every 007 game now. I'm not sure if it's true, but it really wouldn't be a surprise.

wow. I had my first hands on play with a psp today. Ok, Im a sony fanboi, but the graphics...the size of the screen..... I played GT4 and FIFA soccer and it is truly like having a portable ps2.... awesome.

seriously, looking at the DS, and its N64 generation grafix, it is really laughable. So when grooves tells us they aint sellin well, or are being frequently returned, one can hardly be surprised... :(

Where's sardie to come and yell "graphics fanboy" when you need him to.

I'm perfectly fine with N64 graphics. For a freaking handheld that has a battery life of a buttload of hours, N64 graphics is awesome. Hell, it's a handheld, and I think it's perfect. I wish they'd just throw the DS some N64 ports.

And to those saying the PSP is a handheld, I don't consider something that has to be plugged into a wall after 4 hours a handheld. Rather useless if I can't find an outlet in an airport now isn't it? Or what about in a car? Buy an adapter? My DS doesn't need one. (And yes, I am in very long car rides).

I don't know, I just can't get myself excited over either the DS or the PSP. That said, the Viewtiful Joe game is some serious incentive to get a DS for me. I'm a HUGE fan of Viewtiful Joe, no matter what system it's on. I suspect that Jasmine gal in the screenie is Joe's sister. At least, I sure hope so...I wouldn't want them to get rid of Silvia!

everytime I say things like this I get earbashed by Lynk and cohorts and get called a Sony fanboy etc etc

@ Astro: I have never called you a fanboy at all. In fact whenever I stand up to you on any issue concerning videogames you call ME a fanboy. This place is ruled by the majority of Playstation, Xbox and PC fans, only a handful of people actually like Nintendo and when those people speak up and say that Nintendo is good they're called fanboys and dismissed.

So to solve this problem of "fanboys" lets all agree just to stop the whole fanboy crap once and for all. :dozey:

The people who buy a Nintendo DS are the people who want affordable gaming, unconventional gaming... something DIFFERENT. In fact because of this a lot of the girls I know want and have bought a NDS. Their first videogames console ever! It's amazing to see that Nintendo has managed to attract people into the market that would've ignored it if Nintendo has just released yet another generic handheld that played conventional games. And to be honest, I'm bored with conventional gaming, I want to be able to do more than just push buttons and Nintendo doing exactly what I want them to do. Most people critise Nintendo for being different without realising that if they weren't gaming would be years behind what it is now. Nintendo has the guts to try new things and new things will make people skeptical but that's just human nature... Nintendo may not be #1 on the console scene but funny how they're #1 when it comes to making profit, double of what Sony's gaming division has made in a space of 8 years.

People claiming that the PSP or the NDS will fail miserably are, IMO, morons who should look at the facts. In reality the race is pretty damn even and it's really just a matter of taste. And remember, just because forums like this are filled with PSP fans doesn't mean the PSP has a larger following, it just means that most people who come here are the type of people to find the PSP to be for them ;) However, 98% of people I know love the NDS. I only know one person who wants a PSP more than an NDS, the rest want an NDS or already have one and love the games they play on it. A few of them have even gotten their PARENTS addicted to it!

The winner could be anyone, it's still too early to tell, Nintendo has a lot on the horizon, I know I'm looking forward to free online gaming thanks to Nintendo and there are many games coming out on the NDS which I would kill for.

My 58 year old uncle is addicted to Warioware touched. Nuff said.

It's a matter of taste, me I don't want to waste 250 bucks for a PORTABLE with a 7 hr. battery life, if Astro says the graphics of the DS needs more oomph, I say the PSP's battery needs a hell of a lot more oomph. I bought the DS and I gave it the perfect test straight away: I flew from the US to Spain, and it lasted me the ENTIRE FLIGHT.

Personally, if I'm gonna watch a movie, I'll do it on my sister's portable DVD player or my laptop, that way I can go home, and STILL watch it on my big screen TV. I don't want to have 2 copies of movies, one for PSP and one for the rest. It's also why I say that HD-DVD and Blu-ray should reconcile or something. I support Nintendo on principles for trying to do something DIFFERENT with games.

If you ask me, we're getting too caught up with graphics, and what's 'cool'. WE'RE GEEKS FOR GOD'S SAKE! WHAT DO WE CARE WHAT'S COOL OR NOT!? And face it, if you post in a gaming forum like this one, you're a geek. I've heard complaints about how the DS looks 'stupid'. I'd buy a freaking pink console with flowers on it made out of wood if it had good games out with it. We're getting into a phase where games are judged by how good the graphics are and what amount of blood, gore, sex and profanity there is in it. I mean, look what they did to Prince of Persia. I played Warrior Within on mute and skipped the cutscenes. That's the first time I've ever done that in a game. I mean the first one didn't sell well so Ubisoft said

'hmm.....I know, let's add a chick with a thong on'

'no, that still won't work. I know, let's make the thong metal!'

'Yeah, and let's add metal music too.'

'Yeah and let's add swear words'

'AND BLOOD!'

Seriously? I'd rather play Katamari Damacy than watch PoP: WW. And I laugh when people say they hated Wind Waker, but loved Ocarina of Time, IT'S THE SAME BASIC GAMEPLAY PEOPLE!

Plus nintendo has announced free wireless out of the box for revolution, and I don't think they'll do subscription fees. So its online could very possibly beat the living **** out of PS3's or XBOX2's.

Now sure, Nintendo's made some mistakes, more this generation than in the last, like backing the wrong horse, but I think they were trying to do something different, they weren't trying to go where everyone was going, they're trying to innovate, to push videogaming into new forms (New forms, not same forms, better graphics).

That's also why I bought like 5 copies of Katamari Damacy and I'm planning to buy Psychonauts.

I've personally never considered myself a fanboy, and in fact, in my school I noticed something very funny. First they used to be Nintendo 'fanboys' because basically they had never HEARD of Sega, while my cousins had a Genesis, so I played Sonic and Mario while everyone else only played Mario. Then with the N64 generation, my cousins got a PS1, so while everyone raved about Goldeneye, Mario 64 and Waveracer, I was raving about Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, MGS, and FF. Then this new generation, suddenly everyone started bashing Nintendo, even though they basically are still making games under the same ideas. Remember, we wouldn't have online this soon without nintendo.

In the end, once again, Can't we all get along?

BTW, Bongobob, that reminds me of the time I posted the one where the XBOX plays the Gamecube one as a thread.

I play it at school against other people. People say we're playing a kiddie games and that we should play real games. Even though they wear pink. Go fig.

Is there a new one in development? I mean, I know there has to be, it's a nintendo handheld, they have to. I just want like a link or something. I still want to go get the GBA remakes of the original games, still my favorite ones out of them all :D

Scuse me missy, my mp3 player cost EXACTLY $250!

AND holds 30GB, which includes every CD I have ever purchased in my entire life. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.:D

Not to come off like a Sony fanboy(I don't even own a PSP), but just what is so terrible about a 7 hour battery? Personally, unless you plan on flying from Brooklyn, NY, to Tokyo Japan, what could hold you up so bad that you could not find an electrical socket in THIS day and age for 7 hours?
