hehehe... not sure what to think, but I find this oddly amusing..

Has UNICEF crossed the line? or do you think it's a good idea that's taken too long to get across?

Opinions?

* - can't find a link to the ad itself, just a "slideshow". If anyone finds it, feel free to post it (the link) ;)

Though I think this could be a "system shock" to some small child... I think it could be rather effective.

However, since it is aimed towards adults (feasibly ones who grew up with the little blue hellspawns)... one can only wonder if they (adult viewers) would think it's just 'humorous'... thus, losing the edgy "effectiveness" of the message altogether...

Bombing smurfs? I have no idea whether to laugh at that or something else. It would get my attention though, and thats what they're aiming for... Well it is kinda scary thinking that it happens in real life with real people... I don't know what to think.

o_O;;;

I agree though, not sure whether to laugh or be out-raged. Its disgusting, I know they arent doing it to be funny (even though the thought of carpet bombing the smufs is making me want to snicker)... but at the same time, seeing baby smurf crying like that makes me upset... <_<;; Guess I do have a bit of a maternal instinct after all. heh

Im sure I would be shocked by the real images if I saw them, but I dont. Like they said in that article, people get bombarded with so many images of war and death and destruction that people are desensitized by it (thankyou cnn, time, fox and all you other medias!).

I find it more shocking to see people being shocked by those images more than by real images.

Agreed ;)

I think that's why I think it could be an effective method.

Most of society (IMO) seems to be de-sensitized to the "general" public. We see carnage everyday in the news, but who really is affected to a point where it makes a difference?

Now, turn the page and start messing with something "familar" to us, be it family, friends or something associated to us or our childhood and all of a sudden you start getting some sort of reaction ;)

It's clever, I'll give them that... but then again, as I noted.. for those of us that 'grew up' with the Smurfs, but in turn, hated them.. does this ad prove to get the message out, or just cause us to find it 'funny'? I'll admit, my first reaction was laughing when I read it :o

I'm still very unsure of what to think about the ad, but as anyone can see.. it has gotten a reaction out of me. Whether it was the intended reaction, perhaps not so... but I think UNICEF did their homework. This ad has brought up alot of discussion throughout the net*, and just in that maybe have gotten a message out there moreso than a "canned" sympathy advertisement...

* - just do a Google on "smurf unicef ad" and you'll see.. hehehe

^.

Anyway, **** smurfette, little tart needed a good napalming.

I dont know if I should laugh, stare, or just close the web browser o_0

I agree with D333,

If people are more upset about images of cute little blue cartoon characters being bombed and killed instead of real people being bombed and killed something is wrong with our society.

Now that was funny! And bizarre... dont know why this one made me feel upset and laugh about it (at the same time no less)... >_>

It was like that episode of Futurama, where Zap crashes the restuarant into the planet of giant amazon women. And all the men are sentenced to death by "snusnu" (being screwed to death lol). And Zap and Frye's faces kept changing between horror shock and excitement... thats how I felt. lol

"That was the best trip ever!"

"We had snoo snoo."

While Fry and Zap are standing there in pelvic casts.... Good times!

Back on topic: I watched that smurf.wav....its in french! whoo for once a foreign film I can actually understand.................seriously I dont think it was that bad.........</laughing fit> the one on Robot Chicken was more graphic <Smurfette in a box anyone?> but less disturbing. Robot Chicken is obviously a joke, while this isint. Might expain all those weird feelings that accompany the laughter.

It wasn't meant for kids Revan

The scene from a bizarre commercial featuring Belgium's lovable blue-skinned cartoon characters is so upsetting it can only be shown after 9 p.m. to avoid scaring children.

Why is it sick? It's a good message. Usually, humans need a gun to their heads to be sensitize by anything. Better dead smurfs then guns to our heads.

Besides, the message is clear. Even the most innocent creature isn't immune to the cruelty of man.

Let's start using smurfs to show what happens when you drive like an old granny, we could use footage from Burnout.

War (as reffered to in that add) is going to be there, because of sin in the world, there's always going to be someone who wants to kill out of hate, and there will always be those who sacrifice their life to protect those they love.

Adds like that seem to be misleading people into thinking that there is no difference between the evils involved in war and fighting in a war for the right reasons.

Life is war, wether or not you can see it, it is the nature of the world.

Am I the only person here that seems to find this funny as hell???? I think that it is a little cruel, and perhaps wouldn't be best for kids to watch, but they were all jumping around the fire and all of the sudden there on fire. I always thought those smurfs were going to get killed one day too :blast5:

I saw the clip on MSNBC the other night. Since the creators of the Smurfs are the ones responsible, I see no problem in their actions. The only person they will hurt are themselves. On another note, I think they are only trying to be a little political. When I saw the news report, I started to laugh my a$# off. I didn't think children still watched the Smurfs. I thought they meet their life cycle.... Oh well... I can't see how anyone can take a television show about hundreds of blue men and a single blue female seriously... hehehe... I can see the show being studied by psychologists.... How did a population of little blue men spawn so rapidly, and there being only one female in the mix?.. I need to consult Sigmond Freud. I think Sigmond has a few intresting conclusion, which may shead some light on the answer... hehehe....:)

***Enters Mr. Freud***

Ah yes! Little blue men spawning A-Sexually... However, one cannot dismiss that one female is present in their society. Could we conclude that one female sustains the entire population. Maybe it has to do with their parents... Interesting... Very interesting....

I am just trying to lighten up the forums... hehehe....:)

No, but their parents do know the smurfs. This is directed at parents, not children. It's to sensitize people to children used as soldiers.

fighting in a war for the right reasons.

And bombing children is right because...?

And using child soldiers is right because...?
