Jeff
For all of you who don't visit Ahto, I figured I'd post this here. If this is cluttering the swamp since its posted somewhere else, mods feel free to get rid of it The new Bond is... Daniel Craig I guess he's alright. Definitely better than Lazenby looks-wise, but I think Connery, Moore, and Brosnan all look more like Bond than he does. Maybe he's tied with Dalton. But he definitely needs to dye his hair to brown or black. Casino Royale is the movie they're doing with him first. Originally there was a spoof made of this novel. IG-64
Needs a little more hair. Sean Connery wore a toupee in all the bond movies. Seriously, he started losing his hair at age 21.

Katarn07
As I commented on EB and as already mentioned, it'll be good as long as his hair is black. Why they didn't do so for Moore always baffled me. I saw him in Layer Cake and he was pretty good in it. I'm not upset with the choice; I just wish Brosnan would continue. He's not that old. At least he doesn't look it. If Moore could stick around for as long as he did, Brosnan had at least another few to do. But I can understand after the aweful movie Die Another Day was, he wouldn't wanna continue.
Alegis
James Blond :| is set to begin filming in early 2006 with plans to premiere in theaters toward the end of that year. What? They'll only film for about -9 months. Oh boy this movie is getting rushed...
jon_hill987
I can see him as a villan, but not bond, I also hear they are not gonna have as much focasing on gadgets in the film, it is gonna be more action. But bond is all about the gadgets!
RedHawke
^^^^ They better not take away the cool gadgets! I will reserve judgement on a new Bond until I have seen him in action!
Sabretooth
Now that is bad. I'd say Connery and Brosnan made the best Bonds. This guy... he just looks odd somewhere...
Darth333
Now that is bad. I'd say Connery and Brosnan made the best Bonds. This guy... he just looks odd somewhere... He doesn't have the Bond look and I just can't imagine him saying I am Bond, James Bond. It's totally unfair for us girls: while you'll have tons of sexeh bond girls around, we'll only have this guy As we said in the Ahto forum: bring back Pierce Brosnan or clone Sean Connery

Darth Groovy
The new Bond is crap. Casino Royale is crap....why oh WHY Casino Royale?! Has anyone ever actually sat and watched Casino Royale?! I mean seriously, try to watch it.....it's like a bad 70's haircut mixed with Robert Goulet's greatest hits with orange polka dots.....please!!! It's not even Austin Powers funny....it's like all the proof you need to realize why the 60's and 70's are so easy to make fun of. Mod? How about el lamo!!! I still think Hugh Jackman is good for the Bond type, he has the carisma and a good sneer. I hear the name Orlando Bloom, and I gag and reach for the nearest waste basket. Do they ever think actually listen to Bond fans when they write this stuff up on paper? This will make Catwoman seem like a good movie, thank you....drive through.... Jeff
The old Casino Royale is a spoof of Flemming's novel... The new movie won't be like the old one, It will be like his novel.
StormHammer
The old Casino Royale is a spoof of Flemming's novel... The new movie won't be like the old one, It will be like his novel. ^^ What he said. The novel of Casino Royale bears zero resemblance to the execrable Woody Allen movie. In fact, there's a particularly nasty torture scene in it that causes Bond to hate SMERSH, and sets the tone for the entire series of novels after it. I'm wondering if they'll be bold enough to include it - but I doubt it, especially considering Die Another Day started with Bond getting relentlessly tortured. As for Daniel Craig...well...I recognise his face from somewhere, but he certainly wouldn't have been my first choice for Bond. My understanding is that Brosnan was okay to do the next movie...but they decided to axe him because they think he's looking 'long in the tooth'. I tend to agree that Brosnan and Connery were the best playing the character, though I did like Roger Moore too. When it comes to gadgets, I don't mind if there are fewer of them in future Bond movies. To be honest I think it's all become a bit too glitzy, and needs to get back to its hardcore roots. If anything, the two recent Jason Bourne movies are closer to what I think Bond should be, with the character more reliant on his own skills, and a more realistic plot. From Russia With Love is one of the more faithful adaptations from the novels, and I think it was one of the better Bond movies. Only time will tell if this new actor can fit the role, but I have my doubts.

Die Another Day went overboard with the gadgets to the point of almost being cartoonish. It was not the worst Bond movie, but seeing Pierce surf an avalanch with a parachute and a piece of fiberglass made me twist in my seat quite a bit. The Bourne movies are the new age of Spy movies, and the best out there, IMO. The Bourne Identity had all the mystery and depth of a good old Flemming Bond Novel, and had a director's approach that reminds me alot of the best moments from The French Connection. Any kids reading this thread....if you like the Bourne movies, go to your local video store, and try to rent The French Connection, and The French Connection 2. Those movies have stood the test of time, and look just as fresh and exciting today as they did several years ago. Hopefully they keep going forward with the Bourne movies, they seem to pick up alot of what was left behind by the Bond franchise.
Katarn07
I tried reading Casino Royale two or three years ago (it's book 1 in the series) and planned on following it up with the rest of them. That didn't go over too well. I found Fleming's style of writing to dull and boring for me. Perhaps I had to get into it to find what is supposedly so great about it. I dunno. Or maybe I needed to grow up during that spy craze era. Once again, I really don't know. Has anyone here actually read them?
Jeff
Here's a pic I found over at IGN of him posing as 007. His hair is the same... EDIT: Thats where I knew him from! Daniel Craig's screen credits include Layer Cake, Road to Perdition, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, Sylvia and Enduring Love. Tomb Raider!

Both great films, and they show Gene Hackman at his best (apart from his role in The Conversation). I'll also never forget that chase sequence in the first French Connection. Classic stuff. Eh, he does look more Connery-esque in that picture than in the others. It'll probably work out; any transition of actors for a role this big is going to take some getting used too.
