The Doctor Posted November 26, 2005 Posted November 26, 2005 Has anyone gotten it yet? I recently saw on the news that something was wrong with them in some way (I wasn't really paying attention - my girlfriend was in a fairlygood mood...). Has anyone had any probems with theirs?
REDJOHNNYMIKE Posted November 26, 2005 Posted November 26, 2005 My dad told me he saw it on the news, but didn't remember anything. There better be somethin wrong with it, because the time I was originally going to go wait for it was an hour before the other customers could've bought it, but noooo work just couldn't wait could it, and IF I CAN'T HAVE IT....XP
90SK Posted November 26, 2005 Posted November 26, 2005 Yeah, the thing has issues, to be blunt. I don't know the details, but I've seen plenty of reports and a few pics. Doesn't look good for Microsoft.
Emperor Devon Posted November 26, 2005 Posted November 26, 2005 Eh. I've not gotten it yet, and I doubt that I ever will. If Jade Empire II or KOTOR III comes out and that's the only platform they're available on, I'll get it, but otherwise, no.
Lynk Former Posted November 26, 2005 Posted November 26, 2005 It overheats and crashes. Design defect.
stingerhs Posted November 26, 2005 Posted November 26, 2005 hmm, that's odd. one of my friends has one and has literally been playing on it for days on end without any hitches, well, at least none that he's told me about.
REDJOHNNYMIKE Posted November 26, 2005 Posted November 26, 2005 Lucky dog:D The one at wal mart was glitched up, but I just figured someone had been pounding on it. Has he let you play any good ones???
Lynk Former Posted November 26, 2005 Posted November 26, 2005 It doesn't happen to all 360s obviously, but enough to get people complaining about it.
Bob Lion54 Posted November 26, 2005 Posted November 26, 2005 I heard there was an issue with the disk slipping off the spinner and getting scrached up, too.
Lynk Former Posted November 26, 2005 Posted November 26, 2005 @ Skye: At the moment, no. It's still early days.
Ztalker Posted November 26, 2005 Posted November 26, 2005 I'm not surprised... The old X-Box overheated and crashed too. We once had a Lan-party, with 2 X-Boxes and Halo 2, and one of the boxes couldn't handle it anymore. It seems as if Uncle Bill isn't learning from his mistakes. Or he does it on purpose, so that all the owners have to pay big time for a fix, like the PSP with the 'good' accu.
Lynk Former Posted November 26, 2005 Posted November 26, 2005 These sorts of things seem to plague Sony and Microsoft, but not Nintendo.
stingerhs Posted November 26, 2005 Posted November 26, 2005 Has he let you play any good ones???well, i have to admit that the new Project Gotham 3 is a freakin' blast. and the ability to have custom soundtracks in any game is definately a really cool feature, especially with my friend. he's a big guitar fan, so that means he's got a lot of Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, and Yngwie Malmsteen already loaded on the HD. and you know what? that should have been the original soundtrack for PGR3 in the first place. @ Lynk- fanboy...
Lynk Former Posted November 26, 2005 Posted November 26, 2005 @ Lynk- fanboy... I'm a fanboy because?... Listen up, Nintendo learnt from mistakes made many years ago, the NES when it was first released has a big problem, all units had to be recalled and Nintendo replaced them free of charge. Ever since then there have been no events worth mentioning concerning Nintendo's hardware. In fact many people and the media acknowledge the fact that Nintendo make sure that what they make is sturdy and near unbreakable, from their home console line to their handhelds. Now add to that, the fact that the PlayStation line and now the Xbox line seem to be plagued with problems when they're all initially launched paints a very bad picture in terms of quality control for Sony and Microsoft. People are paying hard earned money for these things, they deserve better than to get something that may or may not stop working.
The Doctor Posted November 26, 2005 Author Posted November 26, 2005 ^ I saw on one show (I think it was X-Play) they did stuff like dropiing the three consoles from 5-15 feet, hitting them with a sledge hammer like baseball, etc. The PS2 broke when dropped from 5 feet (Ha Ha). The Xbox lasted until the 10 ffot drop, when the front panel fell off and you couldn't turn it on. The Gamecube survived all the tests, and was still playable after being dropped from 20 feet. Just to prove Lynk's point.
stingerhs Posted November 26, 2005 Posted November 26, 2005 well, since we seem to be talking about defective Xbox 360's, i think that this bit of news might be useful.
spinkle Posted November 26, 2005 Posted November 26, 2005 Listen up, Nintendo learnt from mistakes made many years ago, the NES when it was first released has a big problem, all units had to be recalled and Nintendo replaced them free of charge. Ever since then there have been no events worth mentioning concerning Nintendo's hardware. dunno about that, lynk. my gamecube reset button broke after less than three weeks of owning, and i know many other people whose buttons suffered the same fate. however, i'm lazy and never reported it nor bothered to have the unit fixed or replaced...and apparently so was everyone else or maybe that falls under not worth mentioning? =\ other than that minor flaw, i will admit my gc has survived a ridiculous amount of damage...even my NES couldn't handle being drilled with a controller
El Sitherino Posted November 26, 2005 Posted November 26, 2005 360 has only one game on it that remotely interests me and that's Perfect Dark, but as it is it's only a Halo clone with a "hot chick" instead of a dick in a suit.
Lynk Former Posted November 27, 2005 Posted November 27, 2005 @ spinkle: You know you could've got it replaced for free. First time I've heard any problems with buttons, I've dropped a DVD player on my GCN, I and other people have dropped my SNES and N64 on various hard surfaces, I've seen someone kick their NES across a room out of frustration just cause they suck at Mario. But yeah it is one of those incidents not worth mentioning because it must've happened during shipping or from something that happened in your household. But like I said, if it broke that soon you so could've got it replaced XD
spinkle Posted November 27, 2005 Posted November 27, 2005 @lynk, it was never really that big of a deal to me. i just turned the power off instead of resetting. only time i ever lost data was when i accidentally overwrote my Turok:Evolution saves, but that was intoxicated human error and not a system issue XD splitting the face of my nes open with a controller was pretty impressive...but that system took ten full years of abuse before i was able to do any noticeable damage to it. i agree with sithy, the only 360 game i'd want to play is pd0. sure wish that franchise had remained with nintendo =(
Lynk Former Posted November 27, 2005 Posted November 27, 2005 Yeah you're right it's not that big a deal, and if no more problems are reported with the 360 it won't be a big deal for it. Though I've been reading around the net and have noticed that people are beginning to get used to the idea of their consoles screwing up. I don't think that's acceptable at all.
El Sitherino Posted November 27, 2005 Posted November 27, 2005 No one should accept a final product messing up, first release or not. The kinks are supposed to be worked out before releasing it to the public, as that's the entire point of the test period.
Astrotoy7 Posted November 27, 2005 Posted November 27, 2005 ... People are paying hard earned money for these things, they deserve better than to get something that may or may not stop working. Im 100% with Lynky... irrespective of what anyones console prefs are, when any of us are forkin out the hard earned $$$ for these things, you'd expect them to freakin work properly !! Its not like MS or sony dont have the resources for quality control, but they rush to get things out in time for a certain sales period(in this case the pre christmas rush) and things go haywire. It engenders bad publicity for them which inevitably affect sales ; It would particularly discouraging for the buyer who isnt a crazed fanboy. I rememeber the same thing happenned with the first ps2s and first release psps moral of the story : NEVER buy a first release version console.......at least from sony or MS ! *gives gatesy the finger* mtfbwya
