Darth Windu
I've been thinking about lightsabre colours in KotOR and KotOR2, and what they should be like in KotOR3. The range of colours in KotOR2 is nice, but it was great to find the two special ones in KotOR. What I've come up with is Normal Colours (no modifiers) - Blue - Green - Yellow - Red Specialised Crystals - Cyan = Dexterity modifiers - Veridian = Wisdom modifiers - Orange = Intelligence modifiers - Purple = Strength modifiers - Silver, White = Charisma modifiers These special crystals I imagine would work much like the 'Heart of the Guardian' and 'Mantle of the Force' crystals in KotOR. Oh yeah, Black Crystals are a no-no. After all, they're called lightsabres, black is the absence of light. Thoughts?
Ztalker
Sorry, i think it won't work. The major strenght of Kotor is your connection with your Character. This would force me into using a Purple Lightsaber (i play Guardian), while i find it kind of... {snip} (sorry if i insult anyone with that, i couldn't find another word) Well, find another one or shorten your sentences. We don't want to see this on the boards. - Darth333 Also, Cyan is the color used by Luke in ANH. Many playerd will use it, random kind of characters. But cyan should only be used by Dex-users, so you say.
RobQel-Droma
^I don't think you quite understand him. This would not "force" you into using anything, it isn't restrictions. Just some bonuses associated with some crystals. This doesn't make you have to use a purple saber- wow, you are going to get a huge 1+ to strength if you use purple. What I am trying to say is, first of all: The bonuses don't really do much of anything for your character, they are miniscule. Secondly, it won't make you choose a color that you don't like, take the color you do like- even if it isn't the kind of bonus that is associated with your class, any bonus is more than no bonus. It's adding on something, not taking something away.
Darth InSidious
interesting idea. Perhaps said crystals could be very rare too?

So if he want's the strongest character possible he will be forced to have a purple lightsaber.
MdKnightR
I think that there should be a rarity to certain types of crystals. The staples (blue, green, red) should be readily available, but others should be sought after. They could even make some really rare crystals like you can find in my Heart of the Force Saber mod (blacklight, hot orange, intense red, etc.) And, just in my opinion, I think they should get rid of yellow sabers altogether. (just because I hate yellow ) If anything, let the silver or orange blades be the color for Sentinels.
Hallucination
These special crystals I imagine would work much like the 'Heart of the Guardian' and 'Mantle of the Force' crystals in KotOR. No. Don't add bonuses, because then people would be like 'I want a green saber but it doesn't have any bonuses'. KOTOR is about choices, and making one thing better than another just because of a colour takes away from your freedom. @Ztalker: If you're going to use the word 'gay', think this: "If I replaced the word 'gay' with the word 'black/asian/jew/any other race or religion, would the sentence be racist?". If the sentence isn't racist, then it is usually fine. If it is use another word, so that "something is gay" becomes "something is stupid". Darth333
Ztalker: change your vocabulary. It's not the first of your posts I edit for similar reasons. Thoughts? Purple is a basic saber color BTW! You need to have all the basic colors as basic crystals (Basic colors as in TSL), but there is nothing against say finding a color crystal with properties later on in the game. You can have a basic Teal crystal, then later on find the Mantle of the Force that has bonuses and also produces a Teal blade. Same would apply to the basic Orange crystal and Heart of the Guardian. Heck you could make a special crystal of each color that we can find later on in the game. (Pending on the basic saber color crystal we are using at a certain point in the game.) Basic Crystal..........Color..........Special Crystal W/ Properties Blue......................Blue...........Focus of the Jedi Red.......................Red...........Core of the Sith Green...................Green.........Way of the Counsular Yellow..................Yellow.........Courage of the Sentinel Purple...................Purple.........Way of the Force Teal/Cyan..............Teal...........Mantle of the Force Orange.................Orange........Heart of the Guardian Veridian................Veridian.......Spirit of the Jedi White/Silver...........White..........Heart of Emptiness This would be cool! But there should be basic and exrordinary versions of all the color crystals to allow players the ability to be flexible during gameplay. Playing KotOR I you always went with either HotG or MotF because they were the strongest saber crystals. Using a system like this you could play with the colors you like. Just my 2 cents! Clone L68362
Doesn't make sense to me. And 1 and 2 have been fine without this. I mean, why should a purple lightsaber make me stronger? What if I want a strength bonus but I want an orange crystal?
Ztalker
@D333 Eh...this is the very first time a post of mine was edited, i believe :s I'm on many other forums and even moderate one. I think you're conufsing me with someone else. I normally don't use such a ...hard vocabulary, i just couldn't find the words at that moment. @ Topic: What if you should dual wield? It means Dual-wielders have more bonusses then Single wielder or Double-bladed people.
Darth Windu
RedHawke - good idea, though some of the names would have to change. Ztalker - as Rob pointed out, this wouldn't force you to do anything. For example, in KotOR were you forced to use the 'Heart of the Guardian' or 'Mantle of the Force' crystals? No, but they did offer various bonuses.

YertyL
I don't really like the idea of crystal colours giving bonuses... Like Hallucination pointed out, I believe they are a pure character costumizing option and should not be in any way related to bonuses/maluses. Why should a counsular who likes blue have disadvantages compared to a counsular who likes green ?
RobQel-Droma
He's saying forced into using purple because strength is the category he values the most. So if he want's the strongest character possible he will be forced to have a purple lightsaber. No, it would not "force" you to do anything. Didn't I just say that? He is going to be getting a amazing 1+ bonus to strength, which really won't help his character that much at all. You wouldn't be "forced" to get a certain color because it is the kind of bonus you want- probably without the crystal you would get a good saber damage, and a 1+ isn't really going to help that much. But I think I've said most of this before, haven't I? What if you should dual wield? It means Dual-wielders have more bonusses then Single wielder or Double-bladed people. Umm.... Don't they anyway? You're already getting four power crystals and six lightsaber parts total, so- you would have more bonuses than a single saber anyways, without these crystals. Why should a counsular who likes blue have disadvantages compared to a counsular who likes green Why does everyone think that this will limit you somehow? This will be adding something onto your character, who should be decent enough not to have to try and get that awesome "1+ WIS" that really, really helps your character. (I'm going to come back to that a lot, by the way) It is just adding a small bonus onto a saber crystal, it really doesn't do anything spectacular, and it wouldn't restrict lightsaber colors either. I don't understand how you don't get that. But with all that said, I actually agree more with RedHawke. Have the kinds of crystals he mentioned in the game, and have those give bonuses with all the different colors.

Clone L68362
RedHawke's idea is pretty good. BUt in order to make it so your character or party members don't ALWAYS end up with the special crystals, they should make it so that they require a certain feat, like say the Blue special crystal requires Weapon Focus: Lightsaber. Rok_stoned
first of all what your thinking, no I think its horrible idea, maybe unique crystals that were wielded by certain champions and/or are named, but not EVERY crystal like that. Another idea though is what if to get shades of a color you and an optional part like a secondary lens to tint it(No bonuses)? That way each color could be turned into others so you don't need to wait half a game to get your favorite color. EXAMPLE: cyan / blue-- blue \ dark blue (can't think of better word...) RobQel-Droma
Well, I'm not quite sure why you are so reviled at the thought of this idea, but you of course are entitled to your opinion. It really doesn't affect much, 1+ to something doesn't make a big difference- especially at the end of the game, when you have around 5+ bonuses to all your attributes. I think it would be more realistic, though, and probably a little more agreed with if they went with RedHawke's idea. Except for one thing- lets have no "Coolness of Mace", and "Spirit of the Dirty Green Trees," Hallucination. I'd rather have a little bit different names for some: Red -- Rage of the Sith Yellow -- Light of the Sentinel Silver -- Spirit of Fountains (or something) But that is all just a matter of personal preference, and doesn't really matter. BTW, if they do this, I don't want these crystals random. Make it so you can probably find most/all of them, but make it hard. Don't just walk into a random room and watch a animation of you picking up a glowing crystal. It should be a big challenge to get them. And just one last thing. Since there are only one color for each of the crystals, that means that I can't have one color and have a teammate have a similar color. Because of the better bonuses, that would force me into using one of those other ones, that I don't like for that character. Right? I don't hear you all complaining about that, but I hear you complaining about what Windu said.
RedHawke
^^^^ I wouldn't have a bonus of more than a +2 to anything on a Special Central Color Crystal, remember we have 5 additional upgrade slots in a saber: The lens, emitter, cell, plus 2 crystal slots, they can get awesomely powerful, even with normal color crystals... jedi3112
Though I like the idea of special color crystals to make your lightsaber feel as YOUR lightsaber, I would do it somewhat different. First, you get/find one/two personal color crystals. The color of these crystals can be altered using the workbench (as well as rgb codes, or percentages of each color, can use different ending colors for each saber)). This would enable you to get virtually any color (maybe cut out black as it's called a LIGHTsaber for a reason). Second these crystals will interact with other pieces of your lightsaber (though I'm thinking of restricting it to interaction with crystals only). The way they interact with the other crystals can be dependable on your jedi/sith class (or also your prestige class) and you LS/DS points. Or you could pick things from a list. This could be done by selecting several small bonuses or by selecting a single large bonus (well sort of). Finally the saber will be usable only by yourself. This would make the saber unique as well as personal. Also I always felt a Jedi and defenitly a Sith should be able to pick their own color. Ztalker
Well If you connect it to Prestiege classes, it could work. This way, everyone gets the crystal he needs, without having toi search half the galaxy for a special one.
