Has anyone else seen this?

I've seen it twice so far, and I think it's a brilliant film.

You are absolutely, positively the last person I would have expected to hear say that ;)

Yes, it is absolutely brilliant. If this film doesn't win every academy award that it's been nominated for, then there is no justice in this world.

I love you. :xp:

Seriously, I've heard its pretty good. I'm not a fan of going to theaters what with the having to miss part of the movie to use the bathroom and the extremely overpriced food. So, I'll wait for the DVD.

I doubt I'd see it, most because of the MPAA rating
I'm pretty sure the MPAA rating is due to Anne Hathaway's topless scene and .05 seconds that you see the main characters packages as they cliffdive into a river.

and I'm curious, what's the symbolism behind the name?
Err...well there's this mountain and it's called brokeback mountain...

Society may claim they supoort homofiles, but we all know most of them don't.

Responses as 'Yuck' etc are far more common than understanding.

Movies like this support the homofiles to keep doing what they are doing, and shows the society that they should accept the facts.

This movie won't win an Oscar. Simple, because it doesn't fit the society-image the jury wants. It stimatisation.

Although i am straight, i can imagine homofiles may find support in this movie. for that fact only, people should see it.

believe it or not, i actually went to go see the movie out of curiousity. althought i'm not a fan of the subject matter, the acting was brilliant and the writing was very well done.

the best part about the movie, though, was the jokes that Jay Leno was putting out on 'The Tonight Show' a couple months ago. :xp:

 That was a good one, Prime. But I'm surprised you said Christians instead of Mormons.
Why? Do only Mormans have issues with it? I'd say no...

The gay guy at work seemed awfully dissapointed by it im not quite sure what he was expecting.

Not my sort of movie but i've heard good things and think my girlfriend was on about seeing it so i'll wait for her review.

Ang lee is a pretty damn good director though and i loved the hulk *im one of the very few i know*.

Oh well i just cant stop thinking about the south park episode when that film festival comes to town.

It's because I'm an asshole, isn't it? :p

I honestly had no idea what to expect, I'd never read the book, never really had an iterest in the whole rodeo/cowboy thing, but I loved it.

Well, the literal meaning would be that that mountain is famous for breaking people's backs and leaving them in a wheelchair for the rest of their lives, and that's more violent than anything else it could mean.

Err, something like that :D

I knew that it was getting quite a bit of critical acclaim, but like you I hadn't read the book, or sought out any spoilers. I've seen my share of well made movies, but I was not expecting anything of that calibur.

I don't know if the short story covers the naming of the mountain, but it certainly did not come up in the movie. They titled the movie Brokeback Mountain because of the events that transpired there and the affect that it had the lives of the two main characters. As for why the mountain is called what it's called, your guess is as good as mine.

Which is interesting because you are always saying things like "Yee ha!", "Giddy Up!" and "Kiss my Grits!" on echonet. Go figure...

Egh. I don't really want to see that. Are those the only parts like it in the movie? I might see it anyway because I like Jake Gyllenhall (especially in Donnie Darko; a great movie btw), but I'm not interested in the men's, uh, 'exposure' at all... :p

You're considering not seeing a movie based on an exposure of a male package? What if it was exposure of a female package, would that be ok to see?

Commenting on someone who above said something about Brokeback not winning at the Academy Awards because there is no interest in the subject matter. I think it might win because Holly-wood wouldn't want to be labelled as gay-bashers or something akin to it. It might win just to show that the "Academy" is a fair and open minded institution that gives its prizes to the most deserving movie and not the most deserving subject matter.

For the academy it's a lose-lose situation because if they give the award to it, they're doing it out of fear and if they don't, then they're hypocrites.

Personally I'm quite certain that politics, morals and fears will weigh more in the decisions, than the quality of the movie.

The same reason I don't like some movies with too much violence in them. I'm just not interested. To answer your question, I'd say no. I consider it a matter of respect for the person.

Imagine that though - I might consider seeing or not seeing a movie based on whether I, and only I, think it is worth seeing or not! Blasphemy! :D

Yep. I figure that's what's going to happen too... I feel so sorry for them having to make such a decision. It might hurt their profits either way! :D
