People probably already generally know of this, but just in case, go to that site to see loads of early screenshots of the beta version of Kotor. Here:

This one shows how Bastila and Mission first looked:

HK-47 actually looks pretty good. I wonder if someone can mod that skin back.

Yeah - he looks more "metallic".

I guess that skin no longer exists in any format though. Someone would probably just have to use pictures for referance, and do it from scratch themselves. That would be bloody difficult mind you - I very much doubt we'll see it come to fruition. Shame. Here's to hoping though.

Actually, I wonder why they changed it?

Maybe it was considered too complex (for the time), and that only someone with a really top-range (again, for the time) graphics card could've handled him in game with everything else just as smoothly as the rest of the characters.

And also - just for the sake of it - I'd love to see a skin-mod for the old Bastila look too. Just to be different, you know?

There's something wrong with the Rodian in the background, in the last pic.

I'm surprised that the original concept version of Mission actually had a head model. It's probably not in the game files anymore. Even if it looks strange, it would be cool to use as a mod.

Well, to be honest all that is is an altered HK-47 tga file with a more transparent alpha channel so he is more shiny. And the CM_Baremetal effect looks different too but its mostly just a changed alpha channel. I made myself a shiny-ish Hk skin like that which is happily resting in my override folder :)

And I agree, that Mission and Bastila look nasty... but then again those are VERY old shots from the early... what is it alpha stages? A lot of things underwent massive changes. Bastila was originally supposed to be Asian if you can believe it...

Now THAT is interesting. I never knew most of this stuff. I had seen a screenie of Bastila with that particular face before, but I didn't understand that it was a totally different face than normal. But anyways, I don't really care for it. Mission is ok, actually, and HK just looks cool. Probably isn't very realistic, thought, like someone said, he's been through too much to be that shiny.

EDIT: How about this one:

HK looks absolutely badass - and scary.

I like the HK in the game way more...Hk is supposed to be a bit dirty, doing all the dirty work for everyone :D

Btw, does HK-47 speak In K1 with the exact same voice as he does in TSL in the english version? Because in the german version his voice changes quite a bit from K1 to TSL. And the TSL voice is imo much better :D

I just discovered this:

http://www.gamespot.com/pc/rpg/starwarsknightsoftor/media.html?sid=2867181&autoplay=2867181

click on "Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Trailer 3"

At 1:07 there is a clip of the old aforementioned Bastila - it is extremely brief, but noticeable.

This leads me to think (when considering the other types of clips used in this movie) that these early models were actually not changed until quite late in development, which is interesting (yes the interface is primitive/beta-like in some of these scenes, but that was probably added as one the last elements to the game - as in some of the other clips from this same source use completely different - but polished - designs from anything seen). Perhaps those early models aren't so irretrievable after all (still small chance, but hey)...

edit: notice the date on when that movie was published also...

mmmmmm...interesting. I thought maybe the droid planet (M4-78) but then of course that's KotOR 2 "beta" material or whatever. It's just that some of the textures are quite similar. I think maybe Obsidian (as they did ALOT) rehashed the graphics from that place (whatever it's meant to be - maybe just intended purely for a testing ground, who knows?) to make what they would have, for said planet.

edit: Maybe they had a similar idea for a planet, then Obsidian "borrowed" it off them when they didn't use it in the first game, perhaps?
