Lynk Former
Nintendo Revolution => Nintendo Wii ... Official Site http://revolution.nintendo.com/ Joystiq http://www.joystiq.com/2006/04/27/nintendo-revolution-now-called-wii/ Complain here http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/webform.jsp Sign useless petition to try to make yourself feel better here http://www.petitiononline.com/vplchin/petition.html I hope for Nintendo's sake that this is just a very sick joke on their part and while this won't stop me from buying a REVOLUTION... it is another stupid move by Nintendo which I DO NOT agree with at all. I would also like to say that any ill comments about Nintendo's "brilliant" naming strategy is fine by me, so fire away!
BongoBob
Damn you link! I made a thread first, but your thread has more info I agree that this is just freakin retarted on nintendo's part. The Revmote is now the Wiimote? No. F*** that. I don't care, it also won't stop me from buying a REVOLUTION. Anyone else just not ever gonna call it the Wii and will call it the REVOLUTION? It sounds like a god damn 14 year old girl named it...they're putting themselves in the kiddy department again with this... "Shoot and stab people in grusome bloody ways, only on Nintendo Wii." Lynk Former
Obviously Nintendo was trying to pull an Apple with this name... with the double i... but that's the thing, Ipod has the i in front a "eye-pod" yeah sure the whole i thing is in these days... but not in the way it's being used. When spelling it, Wii looks okay... but when SAYING it... then you have some big problems... "Hey wanna come over to my place and play Wii?" "Man, Wii is so damn cool!" "My mom bought me Wii for my birthday!" "Cool! You've got a Wii!" ... Well Nintendo... Wii think the name SUCKS. When I refer to Nintendo's next gen console, I will be calling it what I always have: Revolution... NRV for short.
ZBomber
The new name is "Wii," pronounced like the word "wee." .... ..... ...The ****?
Lynk Former
I'd like to pronounce it "why" as in why has Nintendo shot their nextgen plans in the foot? RoxStar
Revolution is far superior to Wii. The name explains the entire ****ing thing :[
CapNColostomy
I'd like to pronounce it "why" as in why has Nintendo shot their nextgen plans in the foot? haha, yeah. That's a pretty terrible sounding name.
Lynk Former
Nintendo knew this name would cause quite a stir... which is exactly why they decided to reveal the name NOW instead of at E3. We have less than a fortnight till Iwata-san takes the stage at E3 2006 to give us the rest of the info on the NRV (Wii)... So everyone will be using this time to say what they feel about the name.... and once E3 finally rolls around, we won't get distracted by... the name... and will focus on more important things, like the games, etc... but damn... *shakes head*
BongoBob
.... ..... ...The ****? My thoughts exactly.
Char Ell
Hmmm... While I agree the name will draw attention and be easily remembered these are some of the things that came to mind. The phrase, "I gotta go wee" just gained additional meaning. This little piggy went to market This little piggy came home This little piggy had roast beef But this little piggy had none And this little piggy went "wii, wii, wii" all the way home. Lynk Former
But it was too late cause Lynk caught the piggy and made pork chops out of it. The net is running wild at the moment, blogs, sites, forums, chatrooms... and 99% of people are pissed about this... EDIT: Joystiq Poll
RoxStar
The Biggest thing is... WHY? Nintendo has the clever name to go with their clever product. Revolution stood apart from the XBOX 360 and Playstation 3, which are basically just numbered siblings to current gen machines. The very thought of Revolution to describe a console made the imaginations of people everywhere run wild. And now, they take that huge advantage. And they take a huge "Wii" on it. Prime
If you network two of them together, is that a "Wii Wii"?
IG-64
When I first saw this thread I thought you had misspelled "wifi" This is rather a dissapointment.

ChAiNz.2da
If you network two of them together, is that a "Wii Wii"? soooo... if you play with your 'Wii'..(or Wii Wii) do you get hairy palms? However, although I'm really finding it hard to take this name seriously.. it's pure marketing genius... Yeah, most of us joke about it, gripe about it (me included).. blah blah.. but man, give it to Nintendo for spreading the hype... word-of-mouth is the best advertisement.. and albeit some negative, their name is getting out there by the droves... gotta give'm props for that.. IG-64
It sounds like a god damn 14 year old girl named it...they're putting themselves in the kiddy department again with this... Actually technically it's the opposite. Because we're all acting like kiddies by making stupid puns. In essence, we will all have to grow up to live with the name. But the name still sucks. Maybe they'll bring revolution back and pull a "coke classic"? Probably not though...
Alegis
I can get used to it, but preffered Revolution. What Wiill they do ? HAHAHAHAHAHAOMGF!!!!
abcd1234
I am more partial to the name Revolution, but whatever. It is their decision to name it what they want and it isn't like the name is going to change what you are actually playing.

Jeff
Well I will definitely be sticking with calling it revolution, I think the name is just silly. I just can't understand the logic behind calling it this...
narfblat
"A rose by any other name would smell as sweet...Unless they called it stinkflower." ( I think that's from "The Simpsons.") Maybe this renaming is a fakeout. Generate publicity with a bad name, then change it to something cool. may be a good strategy, or it could backfire. Alkonium
This is just another reason why I'd rather get a 360 or a PS3. So far the reasons are: grudge against Nintendo, dumb controller, dumb name, poorly selected target market.
toms
I gotta assume this is some clever marketting ploy... either that or does wee not mean the same in the rest of the english speaking world as it does in the UK? Some names sound stupid but you get used to them (dreamcast) but ones that already have a built in childish, humerous, derogatory meaning will never become accepted... unless more people buy nintendos that go for a wee, in which case i suppose the meaning of the word might change... Might as well call it the Nintendo Poo.
