Shadow People

Wow. This reminds me of that acid trip I saw in a movie once when I was on an acid trip.
Same here, but I wasn't going to mention it until someone else did. But the things I saw had quite a bit more detail than shadows. :)

This actually reminds me of an article I read about 2 years ago in a popular sience mag, about a British "Ghostbuster". I don't remember his name, I'll have to look that up, but it goes like this:

Our ghostbuster bought an old house and decided to use it's basement as his study. While working there he started to see the shadow people L.S described. Intrigued he started wondering for the reason behind this and discovered something, thanks to a hobby of him: fencing. While working on his saber on a workbench, he noticed the point was trembling slightly. Using this as a quantifible starting point, he found the source of his ghostly apparitions; his old central heating system. The boiler appperantly made a subsone noise, which was amplified by the thick walls of his basement and made strong enough to shake the point of his saber. A subsone sound of about 18Hz causes strange reactions in a human body:

1. Eyeballs start trembling unnoticable, causing a dirt in it or a small stain on glasses to smear. This causes you to see shapes out of the corner of your eye, who dissappear when you look at them directly.

2. For some reason that same frequency causes a unconfortable sense of anxiety, frequently experienced with ghosts.

3. Because human lower hearing is around 20Hz any lower sound is never heard, although it's effects can be percieved.

After those discoveries he solved several sightings of ghost, including his own.

This was published in the Dutch popular science magazine Kijk. I don't have that issue with me right now, but I'll look it up as soon as I can for his name.

@windu--Hotel Asylum is a joke. A big, long, protracted, and very amusing joke. I'm the Head Fruitcake, er, 'Directrice', after all, so I know. :)

@Luke.Skywalker--standard disclaimer, this is not to be construed as any kind of medical advice....

I wouldn't be surprised if it's stress related. However, anytime I have a person tell me they have a new onset of these kinds of problems, I recommend to them that they see their primary care doctor as soon as possible to make sure it's not something big, bad, and ugly going on in the brain. Some really serious physical diseases, while extremely rare, can cause problems like this. Let me stress again that serious illnesses are very rare, but it's better to catch them early if you're one of the very tiny percentage who has a problem.

Some psychiatric disorders can cause this, and the sooner those are treated, the better the outcome. I always tell people psych problems are no different from heart problems or liver problems. It's a problem with the chemicals in the brain, and that's no different from any other problem in any other organ in the body.

Migraines can also cause some weird visual phenomena. Some people get the visual symptoms but never get the headache (lucky them!).

Go see your doc, get checked out, make sure everything's fine. If it's a stress-related or sleep problems, there are medications for such things, and there are also non-medication treatment techniques s/he can tell you about.

Your doc can give you far better advice than any of us here because s/he can see you, can make sure it's not a physical health issue, and can get a chance to talk with you in depth, something we aren't able to do here.

Pretend like you're trying to hang a picture, then quickly nail the "Shadow Person" to the wall. The only sure way to kill it is to make it watch The View, make sure not watch it yourself as it will turn you into a drooling vegetable. This works because "Shadow People" are afriad of Rosie O' Donnel, so are regular people. But "Shadow People" are only part human, kind of like lawyers. If you are really desperate to get rid of the "Shadow People" you could invite Rosie O' Donnel over to your house, supposing that you wear earplugs and have gouged out your eyes this should not harm you too much. Make sure you don't invite Nelson Mandella over to your house as this will drive Rosie O' Donnel far away because she is afraid of being beat up.

It's true, I read it in a blog.

It's a very large joke mainly with Jae, RJM and me, windu. :)

You just made me realize something. When I was younger I had 3 cases of Seizures. 1 of the 3 times I hit my head on the floor. I did get an EEG done to check for brain damage, but I wonder if it was an injury that takes several years to notice. I might want to go get another EEG done. I have also had several hits to the head from playing as a kid.

I do know this is something I should talk with my Doc about. But I try to get advise and opinions from others so I can tell my Doc every possibilty.

Just tell Doc everything you are feeling, rather than what everyone of us Hotel Asylum inmates tell you we think you're feeling. It doesn't have to make sense. It just has to be what you're experiencing. :)

@Emperor Devon--'Honored Matre' is my other personality. Haldol Hurricane coming right up. Unless you prefer the Thorazine Sunrise. :D

Well, you didn't give to much description about your circustances, what you saw, or how long you saw it, so it's hard to put myself in your place.

If you were really tired, distracted, or stressed out your eyes could've been playing tricks on you. Fear might cause a similar problem (people suffering from arachnophobia seeing giant spiders stalking them from the shadows). If you actually see detailed individuals then you might have brain damage (listen to mama Jae) or could just be really unattentive. If you see Bruce Willis just go hide in a closet (preferably not one involved in cannibalistic murder-rapes).

Hits on the head can definitely shake the screws loose, but I get cracked on the noggin plenty and I'm kinda...meh...okay...I guess:D

Definitely talk to your doctor first (and your parents, depending on your age) and see if a brain scan would be beneficial (and what kind of scan, where to get it, etc.), if it's serious then some sort of neural scan would be in order, but you'd definitely want to see your regular doctor first to avoid having the wrong procedure done or overpaying.

I see some wierd stuff all the time, but I'm mad glitchy anyway.:)

Emperor Devon, Please stop washing your jacket in my mind;)

@Jae, I never can keep the names of those yummy snacks straight (Thorazine? Haldol?) but my favorites are the ones that spontaneously contort and taste like yellowypurpleishness:D

@Snm, Did you just insult our favoritestest Lawyer/Ubermod Darth333? I feel the need to creatively pwn you now...

For some people, when they get tired or stressed out, their peripheral vision starts getting out of whack. They basically stop functioning in some areas briefly because of the fatigue, and this can cause the appearance of shadowy figures (or what some imagine to be shadowy figures). It happens to me sometimes when I've been up way too late studying for an exam, although I just take it as a sign I need some rest.

Disclaimer: I am not a doctor. I never will be. If you believe me and start doing stupid things like sleeping, it's not my fault.

uh, i don't think sleeping is a stupid thing. actually, the "shadow people" that i encounter usually tell me indirectly "Go to bed!"

okay, they're not "shadow people", just my imagination in overdrive. it helps that i stopped watching horror flicks or i would have been a total wuss :D

Shadow People eh? Is that what they are calling them nowadays? Well I know I get chased by them but usually in my sleep. Big nasty shadow people, actually they are quite friendly, unless I am mixing that up with my resident ghost. Yes to all you science nerds out there, I have a resident ghost and has been living in my house for the last 21 years.

Directrice Jae/Head Fuitcake...me confused at which...what do I do?

I think I'll stick with Directrice. Unlike some people *cough ED* I know when to show respect to my elders :)

Still the idea of Shadow People sounds like one of those boogeyman stories. The whole lurking in the shadows thing. All I know is that I hear ghosts. My mom is the one that can see them.

Space time is theorized to be a plane that bends when 3D objects sit on it. It is also theorized that more than one of these flat planes could be sitting on top of each other, creating parallel universes- but moresignificantly, that bends in a plane above our own could cause bends in ours- without the actual mass there. In theory, a person's gravity from another universe could put a bend in ours and warp the light to make their shape appear, however, if you looked directly at it, the light could bend in such a way that it does then meet your eyes, causing the shadow person to disappear. This is why 'Shadow People' could have also been reported as infants or freeform shapes.
