Aash Li
When I was in school I never once in all my 12 years had a teacher that was even slightly attractive... so I guess I was lucky too... of course back then teachers knew better than to seduce and have sex with their students.. >_>

Jae Onasi
16 year olds aren't particularly bright, especially ones with vagina's. _Every_ 16 year old has 'not particularly bright' moments, gender has nothing to do with it. At least the 16 year old with the vagina has an excuse--being young and stupid. The 40 year old with the penis has no excuse whatsoever--he's just Dumb with a capital "Duh!" and should be in jail to boot--I don't believe for one moment that there wasn't hanky-panky going on. Giving the girl a ride home? Come on. What part of 'inappropriate' was not clear to this man? Any 40 year old man or woman messing with my kids when they are 16 will find themselves in court--if either Jimbo or I could manage to exercise enough restraint to allow him/her to get to that point. Hell hath no fury like a mother whose children have been hurt by someone. Assuming that this article is stating everything (and I doubt it is), I find it extremely strange that the parents would just give up on their child like this just because she 'wouldn't talk to them'. Big, fat, hairy deal if she won't talk. Would you refuse to give your child a life-saving medical treatment for fear she might not talk to you? I don't think so. Why would these parents sign a consent form _knowing_ this was going to damage their daughter and it was bad for her? I wouldn't be surprised if the girl's either pregnant or the parents received a lot of hush money. Teachers are in a position of authority over, and responsibility for the safety of, children. This man clearly abrogated his responsibility and abused his authority in developing this relationship. It's bad enough when profs take advantage of college co-eds, though you can argue that at least college students are legal age and have some ability to apply adult reasoning to the situation. High school students haven't fully developed adult reasoning, and teachers taking advantage of these minors is reprehensible.

I wouldn't be surprised if the girl's either pregnant or the parents received a lot of hush money. I think it's possible that they signed the consent form without any of those. Spineless parents who give in to their child's every want aren't very uncommon nowadays.

Maybe I'm just saying that theres a problem with the way Girls are raised in the Western World (Theres problems everywhere but right now I'm talking about the West.). And Maybe I think that any parent who calls their child "Princess" or gives them the illusion that they are a "Princess" should be shot and dragged through the streets by a ****ing Unicorn until there isn't anything left. JediKnight707
That's weird. Isn't marriage before age 18 illegal, consent or no consent? Guess I'm no expert at laws, then... It's legal, as long as the parents give rightful consent. I just don't know if they can have sex or not. I really don't mind it. Honest. I don't know if I should be, but if it is a legal marriage and nobody's complaining, I sense no reason to find anything odd in it. The problem is, someone is complaining (the parents). Shame that they were total dumbasses and signed the consent forms. And I think that it is odd, I mean, how often do you hear about a 40 year-old marrying a 16 year-old. Sabretooth
It's legal, as long as the parents give rightful consent. I just don't know if they can have sex or not. Hmm, that clears up some things. In India, marriage before 18 for Girls and 21 for Boys is strictly prohibited in all states. It's a law against the custom of child marriage that occurs in very backward villages. It's mostly eradicated, though. It's a very sick practice - you could be wedded to a person when you are only 6-7 years old.
Master Zionosis
Ohh that is sick, why the hell would the parents sign the consent form, my parents would never let me or my sister do anything like that.
SykoRevan
You have to expect that there will be people like this in the world who make such REALLY bad choices. I only wish my parents were this lenient. Not so I could marry a 40-year-old, just so I could go where I want every now and then. But seriously, while this isn't a big surprise to me that this happened, I'm still very disappointed at all the people involved who are, without a doubt, just plain sad. Astrotoy7
Whilst the occurences in this instance are deplorable, I'd just like to *step outside* this example for a minute... 16 is the age of consent in many Western countries. There are countless incidences of consenting folk 16yo males/females with much older partners. One wonders if the person involved is emotionally mature enough at 16yo, but they do have a legal right to exercise their consent to be sexually involved in such fashion. I myself am with an older partner(not an age difference like above), though we met when I was 25 I did consider myself mature enough at that age to make my own decision, but my parents did not. It's a really hard position for parents to be in...Im glad Im never having kids and wont have to go through the stress of it all Anyway, the guy in the above example needs to be put in a jail where inmates can show him what it feels like when the shoes is on the other foot.. mtfbwya
RC-1162
I feel sorry for that 16 year old. And I consider it an insult to be sharing the same first name as the father. Jesus, how did they even think of signing that form?
The Architect
Heh, it's been a while since I've posted on here. 'Bout five or six weeks I think. She's 16?!? She looks like a man in her early 30's if you ask me. But anyway, I agree with all of the above, that this news is disgusting, pathetic, and outrageous. Remember, anger leads to the darkside. I don't think the parenting problem in the west (or anywhere for that matter) has anything to do with nicknames. It probably has more to do with the degradation of the family structure and society as a whole. Yes, changing times, abscence of church, uncensored immoral music, irresponsible television and media(especially computers and the mass acceptance of the internet) have all played their part in the laxed attitude and lack of self discipline of the younger generation compared to ours. As a member of a public school district for over a decade and a half, I have seen this first hand, on a daily and yearly basis. Parents are getting younger and younger. Inexperienced teenagers are having families. Some like this moron who married her coach have parents who don't teach them anything, so they have nothing to teach thier kids. ...and so on, and so on. Whatever happened to "It takes a village to raise a child?" I think we all need to read more Shel Silverstein.

mimartin
She did something really dumb, but remember she is only 16 years old and hopefully she will live and learn from her mistakes. At 16 I’m sure most of us made some very bad decisions just not on this magnitude. I know I did, but I was lucky enough to survive my mistakes and learn from them The parents are old enough to know better and since the article did not go into detail on why they signed the consent form, my only conclusion can be the same as Cygnus Q’ol stated above. However, I believe the Teacher is the most to blame here. He is the one that put the girl and the parents in position to make stupid, irrational decisions. He might not have gotten away with it if they were not all mentally challenged, but he is the one truly at fault in this case.
