Recently got a bunch of games from someone that was cleaning out his inventory of games he no longer plays/never played. Any thoughts on any of the following:

Duke Nukem-Manhattan Project

Commandos-Behind Enemy Lines

Gods and Generals

Star Trek Voyager-Elite Force

S.W.I.N.E.

Beyond Pearl Harbor-Pacific Warriors

Lords of Magic

Tiger Hunt

SW-Galactic Battlegrounds

Devastation

Army Men-R.T.S. (Real Time Strategy)

Duke Nukem Manhattan Project: I've played the demo and it is a fairly decent platformer. It's the sort of game you cuddle into one rainy afternoon. A good game that you will probably not regret

Commandos: Never played it, but heard it's supposed to be real good.

Galactic Battlegrounds: A fine strategy game. It's essentially Age of Empires 2 with a Star Wars setting. Luckily, it has the charm and addictiveness of AoE2, so you'll prolly like it.

Army Men: Never played the original Army Men, but I've played a chopper-based spin-off's demo. Can't say anything about that, though.

Never heard of the rest. :)

Star Trek Voyager-Elite Force

Nope...WTF?! He, this is the Star WARS forum, OK?

Um... so? We discuss many different franchises here. Lord of the Rings, Babylon 5, Marvel and DC Comics/movies, Anime, and even Star Trek. The list goes on and on. Being a Star Wars forum means that pretty much everyone here is a Star Wars fan. That doesn't mean many of us are not fans of Lord of The Rings, for instance.

As to this whole "Star Wars Vs. Star Trek" thing... I don't get it. Why not Star Wars Vs Lord of the Rings? Technically, that would make more since because both are Fantasy. Star Trek is Science Fiction. So really, the fight is Science Fiction Vs. Fantasy... Why not Adventure Vs. Fantasy? It makes just as much sense... Seriously, all of us Star Wars fans may no longer like Indiana Jones! Its crap because its not Star Wars!!!!OMGZ!111 I've gone off topic enough, but google "Fantasy" and Google "Science Fiction." You'll see the difference...

Anyway, sorry about that. Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force is the only game I played on the list and am going comment on it, but that comment set me off. heh.

As far as the game goes, I enjoyed it. Its a FPS. So, if you like FPSs then you might like it. You don't really have to worry if you're not a Star Trek Voyager fan since you really have to know next to nothing about the show to play the game.

On the show, Voyager is accidentally sent to the other side of the galaxy. At maximum warp, it would take them 80 years to reach Earth. Thats where you come in. Because they are so far from home and encountering dangers they know nothing about, Tuvok trains as small group to be the "Marines" of the ship. IE, specialist trained to handle any situation. You play as Ensign Monroe who is in command of the Elite Force. (I seem to recall your team is called "Delta Squad," but its been a while since I played...)

Your team is pretty fun at times. My favouite is Ensign Chell who is the Engineer of the team. He has some nice lines. For instance, you encounter a locked door on an alien space ship. When asked if he can get the door open, he responds "I wouldn't be much of an engineer if I couldn't open a door." heh

Its your basic FPS really. You upgrade your weaponry throughout the game. This includes hand held weapons and grenades as well as other items. If you are a fan of Star Trek, you'll enjoy killing the Borg you encounter! Those guys are always fun... just don't invite them to any parties. After a few beers its all "We are the Borg... resistance is futile..."

The games a few years old, so don't expect great graphics, but they did a good job with reproducing the ship. If you like it, check out the Expansion Pack and the sequel Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force II. The second game wasn't as good as the first, though, but its still pretty fun.

I'm so glad Bob replied to this little comment first. Because it thankfully dilutes what i am going to say.

Sit down, grab a cup of tea, and join us in playing a variety of games, SW, ST, LOTR, etc., etc., etc....

I still play Elite force 2. I love that game. It really is one of the most well polished games i have ever played. Definetely in the top ten primarily because they nailed everything Star Trek wise, dead on. Sound effects, textures, canon was all bullseye. When designers get that sort of thing right, for me that makes a good game. The first Elite force i enjoyed as well but i still prefer the second over the first.

Oh and if anyone gets me, i killed Stemmons about 1 billion times. Precisely.

Started playing Duke Nukem and was a little disappointed. Plays kind of like those Mario Bros. games where you can only go in 4 directions (u/d/l/r), rather than the the range of movement you get in something like KOTOR or the way I played DN when I had a Mac. Still, he's ever the smart@ss, so that makes up for the deficiency (somewhat anyway). Discovered that I can't play Commandos b/c it was for Win 95/8 and is thus too "primitive". Ashame, was looking forward to seeing if it were any good. Thanks for the comments so far.

Galactic Battlegrounds was actually quite good, all the bizarre details (Gungans riding dinosaur-like reptiles in space without space suits, for example) notwithstanding.

Galactic Battlegrounds is simply Age of Empires with different looking units. BLEH.
It does actually introduce new features, such as shields and air units, not to mention game-play is different because of the obvious increase in ranged units. Earlier it was dominated by swords, spears, axes, and so on, where GB was dominated by blasters.

Commandos-Behind Enemy Lines - Good game done buy Edois. The second game "Men of Courage" is another good game. The third game, "Destination Berlin" is ok but not as good as the first two.

Gods and Generals - The only good Civil War games that I have played, have been the two Sid Meier games.

Star Trek Voyager-Elite Force - One of Raven's excellent games.

Beyond Pearl Harbor-Pacific Warriors - Coaster material

Lords of Magic - a fun RTS

SW-Galactic Battlegrounds - Good game.

Commandos-Behind Enemy Lines. A game definitely worth playing. Beyond the Call of Duty is also very good (and particularly interesting to me, because the second mission is in Belgrade, though the location is definitely not realistic). Men of Courage seems extremely complicated to me and as for Destination Berlin, I can't really comment on it because I haven't played it.

I'm almost finished w/Duke. Have gotten onto the ship (~70-75% of way thru game). Still missing a lot of the goodies (nukes, babes, secrets), so I may have to consult a walkthrough for the next go 'round. Duke's lines are still pretty classic.

I've completed it with all secrets, nukes and kills until my mate came to my place and deleted it. :fist:

And Duke's lines sure are classic, but he's best one's are in Duke Nukem 3D. Ownage.

That was the first DN I played (though on a Mac). That and Duke in DC, plus some mods. Those were some really good lines, which I would even play as sound files w/o the game occasionally.
