lukeiamyourdad Posted October 5, 2007 Posted October 5, 2007 http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/star-wars/rocket+powered-21+foot-long-x+wing-model-actually-flies-305976.php Now that is awesome. Too bad you can't sit in it
Bob Lion54 Posted October 5, 2007 Posted October 5, 2007 Thats pretty cool, but unless I'm missing something, that thing is going to shot up in the air and drop like a brick. Maybe thats all they want it to do. EDIT: DOH! Theres more article after the pictures. heh I get it now. Sounds like they're just going for the takeoff. I can't wait to see that video. I wonder if NASA will get a bunch of UFO sightings when they launch it...
Jae Onasi Posted October 5, 2007 Posted October 5, 2007 Seriously cool. If I had room for another hobby in my life, this might be the one I'd pick. I'll be looking forward to the video, too.
Bee Hoon Posted October 5, 2007 Posted October 5, 2007 Too much money, too much time.... Kewl stuff:p
Char Ell Posted October 5, 2007 Posted October 5, 2007 Whoa. These people are super geeks and they rock!!! I sure hope the flight goes well.
igyman Posted October 5, 2007 Posted October 5, 2007 That thing is looks so cool, but it's so gonna crash. And after all that hard work.
Commander Obi-Wan Posted October 5, 2007 Posted October 5, 2007 That's totally wicked. Gotta see that video.
Negative Sun Posted October 5, 2007 Posted October 5, 2007 Totally want to see the video of that. Ditto
PoiuyWired Posted October 6, 2007 Posted October 6, 2007 What would be next though? A Tie Firework? a 1:1 Deathstar?
stoffe Posted October 6, 2007 Posted October 6, 2007 Now that is awesome. Too bad you can't sit in it Probably a good thing, or someone might decide to take it for a manned test flight. You have to be a pretty big star wars fanatic to build something like that. What would be next though? A Tie Firework? a 1:1 Deathstar? My bet is on a life sized Dyson Sphere.
Samuel Dravis Posted October 6, 2007 Posted October 6, 2007 My bet is on a life sized Dyson Sphere.I don't think that would be the next project done, but maybe eventually.
PoiuyWired Posted October 6, 2007 Posted October 6, 2007 I don't think that would be the next project done, but maybe eventually. I would be happy if its a Disc World / ringworld. Plus, we all know that Dyson sphere design is flawed when it comes to energy descipation, though a "beehive" system maybe feasable. OMG I am such a ggk, then again this is a starwars forum.
Rev7 Posted October 6, 2007 Posted October 6, 2007 Anyone who is part of a Star Wars forum is generally a called a"geek".
Negative Sun Posted October 6, 2007 Posted October 6, 2007 I beg to differ, I am "uber-geek" and all lesser geeks shall bow to me and call me "Master"
Rev7 Posted October 7, 2007 Posted October 7, 2007 ...but isn't a geek is a geek, all are the same?? One is more devout than the other??
Bob Lion54 Posted October 7, 2007 Posted October 7, 2007 My bet is on a live size Dyson Sphere. Persons with vertigo need not apply?
Q Posted October 7, 2007 Posted October 7, 2007 Totally want to see the video of that. Ask and you shall receive. Heh. Balsa wood. May as well have used Popsicle sticks and Elmer's glue.
Bob Lion54 Posted October 7, 2007 Posted October 7, 2007 OMG! That is the Awesomest.Video.Ever. I thinks it even better that it didn't work. heh Bob like BOOM! Big bada BOOM! multipass
Negative Sun Posted October 7, 2007 Posted October 7, 2007 Ask and you shall receive. Heh. Balsa wood. May as well have used Popsicle sticks and Elmer's glue. lolz the comment underneath it is amazing... It does pwn that it blew up so spectacularly rather than drift back on sissy parachutes, that's not what true X-Wings do!
lukeiamyourdad Posted October 8, 2007 Author Posted October 8, 2007 lolz the comment underneath it is amazing... It does pwn that it blew up so spectacularly rather than drift back on sissy parachutes, that's not what true X-Wings do! LOL! Yeah, that was certainly better then a safe landing. At any rate, I don't think they had aerodynamics or air resistance in mind when first designing the X-Wing for Star Wars. That's why it'll never fly properly. Except in space. I think an A-Wing would have been a better choice. People pointed out rockets being out-of-sync, which could be a very good reason for it being torn apart.
Negative Sun Posted October 8, 2007 Posted October 8, 2007 It does look like one side is going up faster than the other though...Still cool nonetheless.
