Serpentine Cougar Posted October 21, 2007 Posted October 21, 2007 So what game have you played that hardly anyone else probably has? What under-the-radar game are you almost embarrassed to mention? You don't have to own it, just if you've played it. For me, it would be American Girls Premiere 2. It let you make plays and add dialogue, sound effects, music, etc. But it was a pretty trashy game and had bugs. That's the most obscure game I've ever played, though I've also played some other lesser-known games. So what are yours?
Corinthian Posted October 21, 2007 Posted October 21, 2007 Probably Mount & Blade. It's a nifty little game. The title pretty much explains the game. www.taleworlds.com you have to pay to play the game past Level 6, but it's still worth playing, I'd say.
Jae Onasi Posted October 21, 2007 Posted October 21, 2007 Circus Atari. There's just something sickly hilarious about the sound that the clowns make when they go 'splat' on the ground, with their little stick-legs wiggling in the air.
RedHawke Posted October 21, 2007 Posted October 21, 2007 Twisted Screensavers (Yes it is back from Win3.1 and not a full on game but they had games in them too! )
Commander Obi-Wan Posted October 21, 2007 Posted October 21, 2007 The Playboy Mansion. just kiddin', I've never played it. Regarding the topic, I dunno. Nothing comes to mind... maybe The Bigs?
Dagobahn Eagle Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 The Dominions series of 4X strategy games comes to mind, as do Out of Order. Both are obscure niche titles, and both are awesome.
SilentScope001 Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 Xenocracy. You happen to be in the futuristic verison of the United Nations' Army, and your goal is to keep the peace and the balance of power between the four intergalactic superpowers... by beating the snot out of all of them.
Det. Bart Lasiter Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 Love Death 2. http://kotaku.com/gaming/shameful-clip/a-truly-horrible-concoction-of-fps-and-erotic-game-295878.php

Fish.Stapler Posted October 27, 2007 Posted October 27, 2007 The Mechwarrior and Descent series' own all and not many people know about them so I'm going to go with those.
Boba Rhett Posted October 27, 2007 Posted October 27, 2007 Not many people know about Mechwarrior and Descent? Hmmm, how about Zombies Ate My Neighbors? It's an early LucasArts title not many people seem to have played before. Fantastic game.
tk102 Posted October 27, 2007 Posted October 27, 2007 ^^ cool Rhett, bonus points for naming a Lucasarts game in this thread. I guess I'll say Conan and Halls of Volta. It was a lot of fun as an 11 year old.
HerbieZ Posted October 27, 2007 Posted October 27, 2007 There was a game called Knights on my old Amiga that i used to love. But recently ive been going back to play Star Trek 25th anniversary which is reletively obscure...
Point Man Posted October 27, 2007 Posted October 27, 2007 I played a game called Shootout at the arcade back in 1977. It featured little cowboys shooting at each other across the screen. The bullets were one pixel, which was about 5mm square. You could only move your guy up and down, and you had to watch out that you did not shoot up the cactus, which was your defense.
Jvstice Posted October 27, 2007 Posted October 27, 2007 The original Raiders of the Lost Ark on the old atari 2600. At least I've never met anyone else who owned it.
Uilleand Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 Anyone play Divine Divinity? I'm an old fart, who'd never played any kind of video game before, but I picked it up at the drugstore for $4.99 last year, and was hooked! 2-D RPG, but many, many hours of enjoyable orc killing... Of course, my life has taken a sudden sharp downward spiral since then - NWN, Oblivion, KotOR 1&2, Fable, Jade Empire ... to the point that I'm actually purchasing a 360 for Mass Effect. *sob*

tk102 Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 Right here too. Didn't own it, but I stayed up all night at a birthday party sleep over beating the game. So it was in effect, owned. Oh yeah. @Jimbo, didn't actually play the arcade, but the 2600 port of that was called Gunslinger and featured the cactus and moving stagecoach. Owned.

I still have it on my working Atari 2600 Was the first time I ever saw the word 'tsetse' (flies) .. you can only imagine how I pronounced it when I was but a mere tot.. sorta.. I'm so l337 admit it
Gargoyle King Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 Well i have a game that i have had for a good 9 years or somethin' now called Dominant Species. It's a nice little RTS where you play as Alien Covenants battling rival Covenants and Human invaders in distant worlds, i'd recommend it. On an embarassing note i've played the god-aweful game.......ahem*Spiceworld*ahem................
Serpentine Cougar Posted October 31, 2007 Author Posted October 31, 2007 Anyone ever played Nox? It one of the first (if not the first) RPGs I ever played. I still love the game, even though it's story wasn't anything special. The music and atmosphere of the game . . . . Maybe it's just nostalgia, but anyway: Anyone else ever even heard of it?

Since i don't know much about this game however would you recommend Nox as a good game to buy? I read the article on Wikipedia, is it anything like the Elder Scrolls games? Or is it more on par with the likes of Diablo? Ever way then i think i shall buy it! Another game i have played which is quite obscure is the PSX title, X - Unmei no Tatakai. It's a Japanese beat-em-up built in a similar vein to Psychic Force. If anyone has a Japanese PSX i'd recommend you buy it as it's pretty fun, or better still, buy the game and download ePSXe and play the game on your PC; it works fine with the emu as i've tried the game on my PSX & PC.

I've never played Diablo, but from what I can gather, yes, it's more along the lines of Diablo (isometric top-down type view, 2D sprites, etc.). If you're looking for an awesome story, look somewhere else. But it's still an entertaining play, has good music, and the world has nice atmosphere and personality. But again, my opinion of it is tainted with nostalgia. As far as I remember though, there were zero bugs in the entire game...
Sabretooth Posted November 2, 2007 Posted November 2, 2007 I used to have a magazine subscription way long ago, back when it was possible to fit 10-15 game demos on one CD. Played hundreds of obscure games back then, so I'll have to dig them up. Right now, I remember Moonbase Commander - a game that was sheer genius. It's difficult to explain, but you have to construct a space base and fight the enemy in a turn-based strategy system. Catch is, you "build" bases by shooting pods here and there, so you have to guess aiming and trajectory right. It gets boring about halfway through, but had that idea been explored further, it could have created a brilliantly unique game.
