Serpentine Cougar
The Emotiv headset makes it possible for games to be controlled and influenced by the player's mind, and facial expressions. The Emotiv headset uses a set of sensors to tune into electric signals naturally produced by the brain to detect player thoughts, feelings and expression. It connects wirelessly with the PC, and may in the future work on other game platforms such as consoles. Check out this video showing off some of the stuff that can be done with it. Of course, it'll be pretty expensive, though ($299). It's set to be released at Christmas 2008. Certainly an interesting idea!
Marius Fett
Wow, that looks pretty cool. It'll be $$$ (or in my case £££) though.
Litofsky
It looks interesting. Although, I wonder: If we can control a machine through another machine, can a machine control us?
Rev7
Looks pretty sweet. Expensive though. It looks like this is the next-next generation of gaming. Thanks for the link!
Davinq
It's like the Wii's antichrist; Wii Fit and stuff like that to maintain physical activity, versus the ultimate laziness of using your mind and not your body? I'm pretty sure I'll never invest in this.
Relenzo2
They talked about using brainwaves to determine lighting and music in a game. I'm not sure that' good. I mean, the game wants to SET the mood, not respond to it, most of the time. Some scaling, yes, would be awsome, but not all the time. I mean, HAPPY setting when you get treasure and HAPPY setting when a good freind just died should not be the same. Other than that, having this technology with your I-Pod would be neat. It can play music in your list depeding on your mood, and that would definately be good, and much more affordable. Unless you have a song stuck in your head. That would be the last thing you wanted to hear, yet your player would play it over and over!

"Aww mom why cant I lift this bottle of coke with my mind?"

I'm pretty sure I'll never invest in this. I too will quote this. It might not be like that. It seems to me that a lot of the brainwaves the Emotiv picks up are waves telling parts of your body to do something. So you'll be moving your arms around a little and stuff. More importantly, seriously, how hard is it to move LESS than with and X-box? With both you'll still be reaching over for your chips, turning things on, hitting you buddy to knock them out of the match (But you won't be able to use the controller. It's promoting anti-violence). So I'd say "normal" consoles and Emotiv won't be much of a difference.

Burnseyy
Wow, that's just so amazing. Never be able to afford it until the next big thing comes out, though. Maybe if we become so lazy and use that, we'll evolve so we can use telekinesis I wish.

Ctrl Alt Del
Or maybe this gives people the freedom to do other **** while they play a game. Someone with two brains, perhaps. Or maybe I'm just talking random crap, seeing as I can't read and watch TV at the same time even if my life depends on it.
El Sitherino
Meh, I could find this very handy to lift weights while playing Mario Kart. Simply providing people with the ability to control a game without their hands doesn't automatically mean it's supporting laziness. It may be an attempt to promote the opposite. "Hey, look at that. You can use your hands while playing your game now. Looks like you can do the dishes.", etc.
JoeDoe 2.0
It would be interesting if you put the device on your pets head and see how it plays the game....
