I think he is basing it around the fact that he is the only FPS hero who is a scientist and went to college for years. He is like a hero to the pale, gross, porn addicted nerds of the world

Exactly. He's a testament to what we, the supergeeks, could do whilst stranded miles from nowhere, below the suface and armed only with our wits.

And a crowbar.

And a shotgun.

And that zappy thing that shoots radiation.

He even has a beard like me. That's neat. :)

Jimmy Hopkins - Bully

Oh yeah Jimmy Hopkins is also a good protagonist. Rather instead of influencing nerds he influences Bullies. Since Jimmy Hopkin's crusade is to stop everyone from bullying each other. Which is a message people should throw around schools nowadays

Nobody ever says what they're thinking. Well, unless it's a Freudian slip.

Okay, someone indulge me, and explain how Gordon Freeman, the most empty character ever, can be a favorite protagonist? Nothing against Half-Life, but Gordon is the quintessential Player Avatar, it's worse than calling Exile or Revan your favorite. Of course, he's also a Puppet (not in the Cloud sense, though) so...maybe that's what you're getting at?

Mostly it is possible because of what he does in the game, how hard the game may be and the sequel itself and the mass amount of mods it spawned. Most people cannot imagine Half-Life without Gordon Freeman now. Even mods such as Opposing Force and Blue shift still show Freeman at points.

Most people have trouble viewing themselves as the player character. So Valve comes up with the idea of naming the character but never viewing it. So technically their favorite character is themselves. But it may go back to my remark earlier that he is a college graduate and a hero to the nerds of the world.

Maybe it's more a case of how everyone else talks about Freeman, especially when it comes to HL2 & episodes. 'The one free man' from the vortigants or 'you're a real terror' (or similar line) from Alyx in EP1 after you down the chopper thing.

Which is odd, because I thought that he was far too introverted for his own good, and never actually said what he was thinking.

My question is, why is he that timid? Seriously, and Rinoa is his exact opposite.

Well, I've got enough of him on Kingdom Hearts though, he's deitificated there.
