Revan 411 Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 Dammit! I forgot another protagonist to add! Niko Bellic (Grand Theft Auto IV)
Corinthian Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 Crono never said ANYTHING. Aside from the amicable and insane Mr. Jack Walters, there's also the esteemed Bhaalspawn, charming Ms. Terra Branford, and, of course, Sir Devon Aidendale.
Arcesious Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 Spartan 117. Because pwnification of millions of delusional, retarded aliens with big guns makes you special.
Corinthian Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 Always nice to see people embracing the inexplicably popular.
Trex Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 Tempted to say JC Denton, but never was too keen on what they did to him in Invisible War. Apart from that : -Gordon Freeman -Garrett from Thief -Revan
DeadYorick Posted August 13, 2008 Author Posted August 13, 2008 Gordon never says ANYTHING. I think he is basing it around the fact that he is the only FPS hero who is a scientist and went to college for years. He is like a hero to the pale, gross, porn addicted nerds of the world
Trex Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 I think he is basing it around the fact that he is the only FPS hero who is a scientist and went to college for years. He is like a hero to the pale, gross, porn addicted nerds of the world Exactly. He's a testament to what we, the supergeeks, could do whilst stranded miles from nowhere, below the suface and armed only with our wits. And a crowbar. And a shotgun. And that zappy thing that shoots radiation. He even has a beard like me. That's neat.
The Padawannabe Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 Crono never said ANYTHING. Gordon never says ANYTHING. You're such a nay sayer.
Arátoeldar Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 Sam & Max (Self Evident) Sir-King Graham (King's Quest series) Garrett (Thief) J.C. Denton (Deus Ex) Kyle Katarn (Dark Forces-Jedi knight series) Max Payne (Self Evident) Sam Fisher (Splinter Cell) Guybrush Threepwood (Monkey Island series) Manny Calavera (Grim Fandango)
Ctrl Alt Del Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 Solid Snake - MGS series. Naked Snake/Big Boss - MGS3 Kratos - God of War series Jimmy Hopkins - Bully Although I'm pretty sure I'm forgetting some pretty important ones.
jediTJrocks Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 Daxter in 1.Jak and Daxter 2.Jak II 3.Jak 3 4.Jak X And finally: Daxter
DeadYorick Posted August 14, 2008 Author Posted August 14, 2008 Jimmy Hopkins - Bully Oh yeah Jimmy Hopkins is also a good protagonist. Rather instead of influencing nerds he influences Bullies. Since Jimmy Hopkin's crusade is to stop everyone from bullying each other. Which is a message people should throw around schools nowadays
Meowster Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 Squall is pretty darned awesome too:) QFT. Second would probably be April from The Longest Journey, and third Zidane Tribal from FFIX.
Corinthian Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 To each his own, I guess, but I found Squall to be an incredibly annoying whiner.
Salzella Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 Liiiiiiiiiiink! Honourable mentions to: Jak the Exile Psymon Stark (SSX, for those wondering )
Bee Hoon Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 To each his own, I guess, but I found Squall to be an incredibly annoying whiner.Which is odd, because I thought that he was far too introverted for his own good, and never actually said what he was thinking.
Sabretooth Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 Off the top of my head: Manny Calavera (Grim Fandango) Guybrush Threepwood (Monkey Island games) Gordon Freeman (Half-Life games) J.C. Denton (Deus Ex) Kyle Katarn (Jedi Knight games) Ben (Full Throttle) Lucas Kane (Indigo Prophecy) The Nameless One (Planescape: Torment)
Corinthian Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 Nobody ever says what they're thinking. Well, unless it's a Freudian slip. Okay, someone indulge me, and explain how Gordon Freeman, the most empty character ever, can be a favorite protagonist? Nothing against Half-Life, but Gordon is the quintessential Player Avatar, it's worse than calling Exile or Revan your favorite. Of course, he's also a Puppet (not in the Cloud sense, though) so...maybe that's what you're getting at?
DeadYorick Posted August 14, 2008 Author Posted August 14, 2008 Nobody ever says what they're thinking. Mostly it is possible because of what he does in the game, how hard the game may be and the sequel itself and the mass amount of mods it spawned. Most people cannot imagine Half-Life without Gordon Freeman now. Even mods such as Opposing Force and Blue shift still show Freeman at points. Most people have trouble viewing themselves as the player character. So Valve comes up with the idea of naming the character but never viewing it. So technically their favorite character is themselves. But it may go back to my remark earlier that he is a college graduate and a hero to the nerds of the world.
Trex Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 Maybe it's more a case of how everyone else talks about Freeman, especially when it comes to HL2 & episodes. 'The one free man' from the vortigants or 'you're a real terror' (or similar line) from Alyx in EP1 after you down the chopper thing.
jawathehutt Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 I actually liked playing as CPL sheperd as much as freeman, the parts where you had backup capable of doing more than killing headcrabs were a nice change, even if the engineers and medics were only placed where you had to use them to do something.
Ctrl Alt Del Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 Which is odd, because I thought that he was far too introverted for his own good, and never actually said what he was thinking. My question is, why is he that timid? Seriously, and Rinoa is his exact opposite. Well, I've got enough of him on Kingdom Hearts though, he's deitificated there.
