Commander Obi-Wan
I'm just curious to see who here watches any MMA. I pretty much generally watch whatever the UFC shows like The Ultimate Fighter and PPVs. Anybody play the recent UFC Undisputed 2009 game? Other than that, I just pay attention to what happens in Afflication and other smaller events like MFC, Bellator, etc.

Commander Obi-Wan
Machida completely dominated Evans tonight, it was beautiful. Yeah, Machida seems unstoppable. He's probably going to be fighting Rampage Jackson next, which I believe he'll make quick work of.

adamqd
Watching MMA is like watching violent gay porn. I wouldn't know... Moving swiftly on, yea cant beat MMA, although I need a good Stand up session to make it a great fight for me, cant be doing with the rolling around on the floor, reversing holds, stuff
Darth Avlectus
Yeah I like watching a couple of people beat the living crap out of each other. Nothing else to do and that's on, why not? Like pro wrestling only real and without all the drama BS. The critics used to complain there was already too much violence on TV and stuff...they didn't know what they were talking about. Now if only ECW had been real-er that would be cool as well. Jumping out of a 2 story balcony to slam an opponent through a table. BYW does that, but it isn't allowed on TV. Q
I haven't watched it in many years, but I remember the first years of the UFC before the introduction of all the rules necessary for it to be held in the US. Man, you talk about blood! It was probably as close as the modern world will ever get to the classic gladiatorial games. In short, it was awesome. Char Ell
I got introduced to UFC back in 1995 or 1996. No weight classes back then, IIRC. I still remember Royce Gracie fighting in his gi. I watch UFC programming on Spike from time to time but I'm not into MMA enough to spend the money for the PPV broadcasts. It's as close to a real life street brawl as is likely to be seen on television.
Darth Avlectus
I remember Ken Shamrock in the days before he first joined WWE (then called WWF--before the world wildlife fund decided to sue them once wrestling became big enough--total BS, it's initials not malicious infringement). Anyway, I also remember when politicians in '95 were also complaining about how it was bringing gladiatorial barbarism and brutality into the country and creating the next Rome out of America. TBH: people need a taste of what it's really like. Not just keep watching this pseudo violence drama stuntwork.

With The Ultimate Fighter reality show and UFC Unleashed (which shows a lot of older fights). Pride was pretty much like the old school UFC. Foot stomps and soccer kicks were legal, knees to the head, etc. It's kind of unfortunate that Pride is defunct though. But, I'm more than fine with what the UFC offers. Venom750
I watch ufc and sometimes mma events i think it great cause it's real. I used to watch wwe but it became really BS. I'm also playing ufc undisputed which is a fantastic game with so much depth to it.
vanir
Watching MMA is like watching violent gay porn. lmao x10 Yes it is. *looks around* Not that there's anything wrong with that. My Norwegian mates are sports crazy and forced me to watch Ultimate Fighter. I mean they did let me watch a bunch of war docos too, so it's all good. There was some bit on hit strengths being measured using the latest engineering equipment and that was interesting. Mua Tai was shown to have the strongest blow of any MA, literally recording bone breaking hit force with that inside knee strike. Clearly MMA is toned down, blows have to be pulled for the competition to not be lethal. As I'm sure many are aware a fully grown adult male even of an average weight and build is more than capable of killing another in short order using natural weapons. Hell special forces military groups would be out of business otherwise. The cage fighting I watched thus looked very contrived to me. The contest was obviously fitness, endurance, flexibility and adaptability more than strict lethal capabilities. I mean of course, this is necessarily the case for any combat sport, but the thing is other combat sports don't lie about it. All in all it is no different to WWF to me. I was watching thinking, Oh come on, you're just acting there, oh you pulled that punch, oh now even I wouldn't fall down that much over that. Not to suggest these guys aren't physically fit enough to kick my butt in any sports environment contest. The the suspended disbelief this is actually a freestyle combat environment is childish and a bit um...well Rogue Nine said it best. No offence. Just not my thing, though I've been an avid MA enthusiast and a quick glance is somewhat interesting once.
leXX
Machida completely dominated Evans tonight, it was beautiful. It was beautiful. I was kind of split between who I wanted to win though, because Evans beat the crap out of Chuck Liddell, who I hate with a passion. Was so glad to hear Machida say "Karate is back!". Being a black belt in Shotokan myself, it hasn't had such a good showing in UFC up till now. I can see the admissions at Dojo's everywhere rise after that. My favourite was Anderson Silva, but Machida overtook him after that fight. He has gained my respect. I love UFC, but my husband is a complete nut on it. He even has a whole collection of Tapout t-shirts.
Det. Bart Lasiter
I wouldn't know... yes, well, after having co-starred in several of them with mr. nine and a leather enthusiast with a penchant for giving orders, i can assure you we both know what we're talking about when we say it's like a violent gay porn

Dogs playing in traffic, people at airports, fishies in the ocean. All homos.
Rev7
My favourite was Anderson Silva, Yeah, he is a beast. I watch it when it is on tv. I find it better than the WWE junk. I have also played the Undisputed Demo on the 360. I thought that it looked good, I just don't think that it is worth spending $60 on. Maybe I will get it when it goes down in price..... Rogue Nine
Every MMA match I've seen starts off and ends up the same way. Combatants circling around each other for the first thirty seconds, exchanging a few cursory jabs or kicks. Then the rest of the fight is violent dry humping on the ground in positions that would make even Perez Hilton blush. If wanted to watch something like that I'd just hit jmac up for some links. Darth Avlectus
What I get a kick out of is that people think that just b/c it is more real than WWE, that these guys would be able to rival bruce lee. Or necessarily hold their own in a real ground and pound entanglement, or a twisty turn grappling. "that guy is so tough and blah-blah-blah"...While they might be in great shape and do this for a living, I do have my doubts how they'd fare in a no holds barred fight against dirty fighting thugs who just live it. Sure they can beat most average joes, but who cares? Same bit I had against Bill Goldberg in his wrestling days. You can try spearing someone, but you can't beat down what you can't even touch.
