Far from the wild metal frenzy most people have posted here, but I'll just throw in what I enjoy:

Primal Scream:

List of songs I really like:

Swastika Eyes, Kill All Hippies, Kowalski, Some Velvet Morning

Chiasm: Another odd group I found thanks to Vampire Bloodlines

Massive Attack has some good ones to.

The Stone Roses I enjoy to, now and then, bit soft though.

Deep Purple!

At the Gates a metal band, yes! Or so I think :p

Iced Earth, first few CDs I really enjoyed, Alive at Athens is magicale!

Its 3 cds from some live concerts and has some of their best songs in there, IMO.

Lou Reed and The Velvet Underground has some nice songs aswell.

Wolfmother!

Well thats about it what I can think off at the moment :p

Yes Quanon, At The Gates is a metal band, along with Iced Earth. Though I only enjoy the latter. If you like At The Gates, try Dark Tranquility minus the Projector and Skydancer albums, and early In Flames, from The Jester's Dance to Clayman.

Well, oddly enough At The Gates is one of few groups I can stand that type of voices, you know the screaming :p

Normally I prefer differant flavour, like Iced Earth, Iron Maiden, few ManoWar songs. Its still yelling mostly, but not the angry doggy like stuff=> Canibale Corps and stuff

Oh and this one CD of Dimmu Borgir I can stand

Honestly, with every group, I just pick 5 to 6 songs I really enjoy, after that I find that most groups get "boring", the same sound all the time.

Though thats just silly me!

To counter the loud noise, Paul Simon and Garfunkel!

EDIT: Other "weird" stuff I like => Dead Can Dance.

I'd definitely recommend Protest. They are probably one of the most unique bands I know.

early In Flames, from The Jester's Dance to Clayman.

I find the only album of their's that I can stand listening to is Come Clarity. The rest of their **** is meh. Mind you, they aren't too bad live despite the fact that they only played two songs that I like

Yeah, there are many other bands that do Melodic Death better, but In Flames are considered one of the three pioneers, so i mentioned them anyway.

I like many genres, and I don't know if I even have a favorite; it really depends on the mood I'm in. Still, I feel I should point out a few not very well known artists whose music I enjoy a lot:

- Vangelis (very highly recommended)

- Michael Stearns

- David Helpling

- David & Diane Arkenstone

- Irfan

- Yanni

- Sahil Jagtiani

Also, the following artists made some good movie soundtracks:

- Angelo Badalamenti

- Basil Poledouris (Conan the Barbarian must be heard)

- Craig Armstrong

- Brad Fiedel

- John Murphy

A few others I like listening to:

- Dead Can Dance (already mentioned)

- Lisa Gerrard (though she started at DCD, she didn't stop making music after the band's demise)

- This Mortal Coil

- Therion

- Nightwish

- Blackmore's Night

- Porcupine Tree

- It's a Beautiful Day

- Sarah Brightman

- Agalloch

- Runrig

Of course, I also don't mind the classics:

- Beethoven

- Mozart

- Carl Orff

- Tchaikovsky

- Vivaldi

There are plenty more, but that should be enough for now. :D

Hmm, what can I think of that hasn't been mentioned.

I'd say look into these guys:

Return To Forever A great fusion jazz band. They have such a unique sound, it is amazing.

Yellowjackets Also fusion. But they tend to linger more towards the jazz side. The song "Daddy's Gonna Miss You" is very catchy and includes some wonderful bass work.

As I Lay Dying I know they are metal, but if you like very melodic vocals + awesome drumming/guitars, than I'd suggest you check out "The Sound of Truth."

Miser A rock band with what I consider a unique sound. I believe itunes only has one of their albums, and it isn't all that great, but check out "Zombie."

Fruitbats They have a sort of organic sound to them. Good music to just relax and sing with at the same time. They favor the Beatles in some ways.

Emery Now these guys have a really interesting sound to me. I don't know what it is but I like their stuff... a lot!

Jeff Beck A very intersting artist. He knows his way around the guitar. :xp:

Well I hope you enjoy some of that. I'll let you know if I think of more.

Just get Porcupine Tree's entire discography and you'll be set for life.

And also throw in some Tool for good measure.

Oh man, I love Tool... too much maybe :o

So, I've been a little slow to check out musics...

the only band of those suggested that I checked out was Failure. Wonderful band.

However, I've been looking for a badass punk band to listen to.

I tried The Clash, The Ramones, Dead Kennedys.. nothing except Minor Threat's really doing it for me.

Any suggestions?

Definitely. I would also suggest All That Remains. "Two Weeks" is one of the my favourite songs. Anything from The Fall of Ideals is really good. Most of their stuff is screaming, though.

I have issues with screamo music.

Issues such as... well, I just don't like it all that much.

Now, if music as such is your cup of tea, don't let me take that from you.

I myself prefer a combination of the two.

I bring him up all the time, but Maynard is the best example of this.

He has a really sweet voice, but he has amazing screams too.

I'm always open to new stuff though, so I'll check it out.

Yes, but when the guitars and drums are driving so fast who cares about the screaming, eh? :xp:

I kinda like it any way.

Badass punk band? You'd best be checking out the crossover thrash genre, which combines punk with thrash's ferocity.

Try Municipal Waste, Suicidal Tendencies and Dirt Rotten Imbeciles (D.R.I)
