In-Game Robe Replacement

TWINKEYRUNAWAY

Recommended Posts

Currently working on a robe replacement pack for the first kotor and possibly for TSL. What this robe pack will do is replace the original game robes and make them more interesting looking. Unfortunately bioware made some...lol lets face it. They gave us T-Shirts for jedi robes. They aren't horrible just not as interesting as they could have been. So with this robe pack, I am hoping bring something unique to the table. Or in the least something cooler looking than the in game robes.

The first robe I am working on is none other than the Qel Droma robes you get from the caves in korriban. One thing that bothered me about these robes is that there wasn't really anything special style wise. They look like the jedi robes you get when you pass your test on dantooine. So I am creating 2 variations of this robe. One is heavily based on how he was portrayed in "Tales of the Jedi" comics. The other will be based on how he looked before he was killed in the shyrackk caves. Here is my finished progress on the comic one.

Next I will work on the second variation. It will be a pick and choose kind of thing and both should work in game with out cheats.

Now I am looking for beta testers so I will leave 4-5 spots open to those who wish to give input(and you will be credited)

The idea is just to change the style/textures. No stat changes will be made.

Did you change the stats of that robe? I thought that it was restricted to Light Side in game? Unless you changed Jolee's alignment from neutral.
Well to get around that with out changing the stats, I changed the texture name on the default jedi robe so it reads my texture.

@Rogue, sure ill add you as a beta tester.

going to upload some pics tomorrow. I have already completed the textures for the dark jedi, dark jedi knight and dark jedi master. Haven't made a uti for them yet. All three are different looking so it's not the same boring texture for all robes( going to do the same to the jedi ones). Think I am going to redo the star forge robes as well. Darth Jaden is a huge inspiration for me, and after studying her style she has taught me a few tricks. I am probably going to create my own clothing texture for pants for the noble looking jedi master robes. It will truly be something of mine since I will be modeling some clothing I have and take a pic of them and make them into a texture for the pants.

@LDR, you are listed my friend.

*still adding finishing touches, especially towards the neck area.

Ok so to be more accurate here are the two robe variations of the qel droma robes.

The blue one is based off of Ulic Qel Droma and the second one is based off of Cay/Duron qel droma's robes. Almost done with the sith ones.

Good news and bad news. Bad news is that the lighter tan looking qel droma robe variant had terrible lighting issues. Good news is that this is the new and dare I say better looking one.

Tested in game ,so far the texture works fine. Now onto the jedi robes and When I get the chance, ill post images of the already completed dark side robe variants.

Looking good. Might I ask what you mean by lighting issues? Like what happened, specifically?
The only way to get my desired color was to use a pallete I created and soft light with a brush on 80%. That produced the tan/movie like one. However in game, the shadows for the collar caused a very distracting glow/brightness. It didn't look professional in most angles and especially under lighted areas. so with much debate and many attempts to produce the same color...I just gave up after 3 days. Instead I drew inspiration from Cay Qel droma's robes(Which in the story were passed down to his cousin Ulic Qel droma.) I still have the original PSD file if you want to take a look at it.

I'm not the most credible source - in fact I'm hardly a source at all - but it may be a graphics card issue. I used to run KotOR with a NVIDIA Graphics Card, and the graphics looked fine. But after switching to Intel, the graphics changed radically. Textures sporadically appeared and disappeared on Dantooine, the metals got strikingly shinier, and above all else, a lot of glows from equipment. You'll need more than just one person to verify this though. Best of luck fixing your issue man!

Nice going so far, but what I'm really looking forward to is your input on the Dark Jedi robes. Vanilla robe textures like PMBI02 and PFBI02 just look kind of mashed up from distinct pieces of cloth, and the greenish/brown highlights in some places look like they don't make sense. I've been meaning to redo those for a while, but I'm still trying to think up a proper base texture.

As for the Qel-Droma robes you're working on, there's one issue that needs to be pointed out, and that is that Ulic wore the blue robe, while his brother Cay wore something else. Cay's robe then passed down to Duron, who wore it after Cay's death and was killed in the Shyrack caves. According to Shadows and Light, the robe Duron and Cay wore was more of a beige-cream tunic with darker reddish-brown pants and a flowing hooded cape suspended with a chain. Now taking that cape out of the equation, we're left with something like this, which I've done a few days ago:

HOWEVER, this should in no way discourage you from continuing to make these robes. I haven's found any information as to what happened to Ulic's blue robe after his death, so you could make it available as a completely distinct robe with different attributes, and you can make it appear on one of the worlds associated with Ulic's journeys as a Jedi. There's a lot of possibilities here; use your imagination! :)
