OMFG this is crazy!

I just remembered that earlier today I was listening to the news and heard that there were going to be snipers on the rooftops at the new year's celebration in Times Square.

Honestly, that's just insane. How can the expect these people to celebrate when they know that there are sharpshooters pointing rifles at them.

I'm all for security but that is simply too much. That is just insane.

I heard that as well....

It's truly disturbing, along with the 5 suspected terrorists in the US and the whole Iraq thing.

Disturbing is the only word for it.

Probably, but what worries me is that some sniper will get so pissed off at someone who dances really badly that he'll decide to go crazy and pick them off. :p

I'll be staying inside then! :p:D

i think the main reason is security. these snipers are top notch, best in their class. and i don't think they'll just shoot innocent people out of the blue for no apperent reason. these men got dignity and honor.

i think it was for the good. i wouldn't mind having them around. i would feel safer if i was there.

I see this as one of the signs of the end times. Now, before you go and flame the heck outta me, let me explain. In the past at celebrations, have you ever heard of such things as snipers on rooftops? Of course not. Sure, as BigTeddyPaul said, there are indeed always forces at work protecting you, but it has never been announced publicly. In the days where security is needed to protect such a peacful event such as a New Year's Eve at Time Square, anything can happen.

Heh you walk into the White House and you see 200 red dots on your face... *Gulp* :)

If there wasnt any protection then people would be robbed, etc etc etc :(

Hell I know I would. I wouldn't be doing anything that would result in getting shot in the first place and it's good to know if some guy went insane with an Uzi or something, they'd put him down before he cause damage.

I agree, this is crazy! Whats next, concentration camps?

...That deserves a smack...

What's the difference between this year and last year? They may have not been snipers on the roof (but there probably were...) And if they weren't any, well, the fact of the matter is, a shot to the chest from an officers hand gun will kill you just as fast as a shot from a sniper rifle. The difference is the ever so doomed offender will never see it coming from the barrel of the sniper rifle. So what's the difference between the police watching from the roof tops as opposed to watching from the streets?

And where in HELL do you pull concentration camps from security measures

Doesnt concern me much. I get this everyday, and there are snipers on my roof top right now......NO SERIOUS.

I work at a nuclear plant, and there is unbelievable armed security here. I have watched the stationed machine guns follow me as I drive into the plant. I thought it was so cool when I first started here, but now its more time consuming gettting through security points. But I feel very very safe here.
