Pseudonym
And you forgot The Alamo movies too. There's the one with John Wayne, and the one with Alec Baldwin.
Nerd_Annhilator
mine would have to be the a bridge to far or band of brothers. bridge to far was the most realistic and had some good actors (sean connery!!). and band of brothers was great!!!!! jokemaster
My favorite war movies are Deadly Dozen and The Great Escape
Darth Groovy
Wow that was tough. I voted for Private Ryan, but I really liked Full Metal Jacket as well. I suppose Private Ryan is much better on a larger scale.
JediNyt
Didnt anyone think of Star Wars? Its about war. Hence the title. But as far as true "War" movies go Id say Black Hawk Down. Best Court Martial movie I think is Rules of Engagement.
Agen
Well Lotr: TTT - it had the best battle ever which could be classed as a war film but if it's not allowed then saving priv. ryan. That's a great movie, but i go with TTT if it's ok
C Shutt
How could you forget "Apocalypse Now!"?
BCanr2d2
The Great Escape not a war movie? C'mon, what was he, a POW..... Anyway, I chose other so that I could specify Apocalype Now Redux. "I love the smell of napalm in the morning" Whilst the war is only the setting for the movie, it isn't completely focused on that is it's main story to tell. Martin Sheen and Marlon Brando provide great acting, along with a very young Laurence Fishburne....
C Shutt
I still prefer the original version to the Redux, but yeah, it's great.
Katarn07
I can't believe I excluded Apocalypse Now and Black Hawk down. Most of those movies above are WWII movies, and I apologize. Just click other than. I forgot about the above as being really popular. Would have replaced From Here to Eternity and Midway with them.... Darth Slayne
Most of the movies listed are pretty good. But I would have to go with Anzacs as my number one. Basicaly its about the Australian troops during WW1, and could be considered a mini series rather than a movie. Second choice would be the Battle of Britain. I don't think I need to mention what that was all about as I am sure most of you know through history lessons, or personal interest...
leXX
The Battle of Britain is an excellent movie. The scenes with the spitfires are very well choreographed! I grew up watching war films unfortunately. My dad has boxes full of war videos, he's mad. I've seen just about every war film there is but the one that has stuck out in my mind as being the best made and most realistic is 'Saving Private Ryan'. It doesn't glamourise war like the others and the special effects in that film are amazing.

Deft Aklin
Saving Private Ryan, by a landslide. Although I did like Full Metal Jacket and Platoon, Ryan had that quality of unsurpassable realism. The knife fight was probably the mostb realistic I hade ever seen. Begging for his life while on the bottom, until on top conituing the attempts to terminate his opponent. Also the scene of the dying medic and how he could tell his exact injuries whilst dying, very realistic. And who can forget the guy losing his head to the 40mm cannon? In closing, two words, 'Sticky Bomb'.
Katarn07
Originally posted by Darth_Sidious 'Sticky Bomb'. Those are real you know. My dad bought some old WWII field manuals and he found them in there. Forgot what they were called; same ingredients. If you enjoyed that, I recommend Band of Brothers. It is done the same way, only 10 hours long, following real-life people from D-Day to the end of WWII. Only problem is, it is an HBO-miniseries that is 10 hours long. My dad got it at Wal-Mart though, so I guess it's been out for some time.
greedo626
I liked Black Hawk Down and We Were Soldiers was a good movie too. Saving Private Ryan was good too. so was the Thin Red Line, though not many people saw that one.

JediNyt
The Thin Red Line was a big P O S! It was wierd, dragged out, too long, strange and underwhelming. The director tryed to be artsy fartsy and failed miserably. I also read that the director had not directed for 20 years before this movie. Of course this is all imho. No, this is the majority of the people's opinion. The cable guide I get gave it 3 stars... And only gave Saving Private Ryan 3 and half. What were they thinking. Take half a star from the former and give it to the latter.
