  1. Hi all. I'm new to this site but just want to say how pleased I am to have found it. It's such a relief to find somewhere on the internet full of thoughtful, interesting discussion about the new game. I think I'm going to like it here.

  2. Sadly, Ron shot me down.

  3. Stan is in jail for "marketing related crimes" according to the plot summary but we don't know how much of the dialog tree stuff is real or just a joke. I don't mind if they want to make an NFT joke because honestly that is exactly the sort of grift Stan might get entangled in but at the same I hope they don't lay it on too thick in the game as it would instantly date it and... might be a bit cringey, you know like when your mum sends you anti Trump memes. It's not like she's WRONG but... 😅

  4. The only thing that made me worried so far was when Ron tweeted that one character from a cross-stitch shared with him wasn't going to be in the game, and there was a disturbing lack of mentioning the Voodoo Lady by anyone until the trailer came out. Ended up getting more than I bargained for with returning characters I'm so happy about Wally, I really wanted to see him return in Tales but sadly it didn't happen so I was really hanging out for it this time. There's other little things that I hope happen, like I want there to be an opening credits sequence, not just the theme on the Main Menu. Let the suspense for this new game build a little bit. Chapter Screens obviously, I'm super excited to find out what their titles are as I progress. Man, I haven't had those experiences feel fresh in years.

  5. I'll just combine everything with everything as always.

  6. If there's ever a point in the game where I have all three in my inventory, you can bet I'm going to try combining them ASAP.

  7. Thanks Aaron! In the meantime, your application has already replaced DOSBox and my Windows 95 VM as my personal way for checking the original behavior of the games. DREAMM is so quick to use that I'll probably never be bothered again to fire up DOSBox for that purpose.

  8. I don't want to derail the discussion about Marius' lovely work much more but the repeated comment that confuses me the most e.g in the above tweet is how the art style is being perceived as too 'simple'. That just makes me worry for people's basic critical literacy. It's like people notice that there's a sort of simple sort of shading and use of certain kinds of shapes going on and then just stop there. Did they not notice all the animation detail? All the scene decoration? Are they looking at the jail scene in MI1 and RMI and honestly arguing the former is more detailed? Like, I don't mind if they don't like it but some people don't even seem to understand what they don't like. Which is why I wanna disregard it as noise. And you're right they're using flattery as an attempt to draw you in

  9. Seeing how much focus Stan is given in the game's description compared to other returning characters, I wonder if he's going to be part of the inciting incident. We know there's a judge in the game, and Stan mentions judges and court multiple times in his dialogue tree. Maybe the two are related? Like, are we going to Brrr Muda to free Stan (and fix melee island)?

  10. Mm. When I think of this stuff from a design perspective I think 'okay, so what do we lose by dropping the thing or gain by having it?' and for me combining items is still one area where adventure puzzles benefit from having that level of depth. But at the same time I don't think you NEED them in order to make an adventure game with good puzzles, especially if you've thought of a lot of other unique puzzle mechanics.

  11. Don't forget that Ron was very open about wanting to do a 3rd Monkey Island game. It was only when it was offered to him that he went quiet. I'm guessing he's seeing if there is much interest and testing the waters before he pitches.

  12. Of course, we're assuming that inventory combination is still present. I hope it is anyway, to me that's almost more important than verbs. I'm just curious to see what the UI even looks like, "context-sensitive interaction" and "reactive dialog trees" is an incredibly vauge description for those of us who are familiar with the interfaces of the old games.

  13. Badges, fish bait, and keys. Did anyone notice how that's what this part seems to revolve around? The pirate leaders seem to have badges. The fish bait adorns Guybrush's as well as Elaine's outfit, and is found in quite a few background pictures as well. And the keys are everywhere including on the crown of Brr Muda's king.

  14. I mean to me it makes sense. The two series Ron wanted to buy back from Disney was Monkey Island and Maniac Mansion. I feel like maybe Thimbleweed Park was them accepting they won't get the license back and doing a spiritual successor. But now... theres a chance...

  15. New user, long time fan of the series. I find it interesting that Stan has his outfit from Monkey 1, while the other characters from Monkey 2 has the same outfits as they had in that game. Also, on the webpage of the game, Stan does not talk about his used coffin business, only about his used ship business. Maybe the game takes place.... between Monkey 1 and 2? But LeChuck is in his zombie form, so maybe not.

  16. This is a crazy thought, but that thing on fire looks very tent-like to me, albeit in miniature form. LeChuck enters what looks like a tent at the end of the trailer, so what if there's a pocket dimension inside this thing, maybe the carnival?

  17. I guess it depends on how much Ron wants to go in the direction of "everything is a metaphor" vs "everything is actually real and happening." Somehow I want both to be true.

  19. I think the suggestion is more that especially in the early 90s box art wasn't necessarily intended as something that was making a big statement about the game that could be used as a reliable guide of what the artists intentions with the game art were. And in MI1 with its not-appearing-in-this-game pirates it at least seems like they were playing a bit loose with it. Their main purpose was to be eye catching on a shelf, and basically convey the vibe of the game, nothing more. It's not that the box art and the game have nothing to do with one another, it's more like... we can't necessarily make too many assumptions about what the characters were intended to look like based on what was on the box. After all, if the box art was supposed to be a clear statement of the game artists' intent, then why is Lechuck deep green and slimy looking in MI2 but pale and skeletal looking on the box?

  20. The release date is all I need. No more screenshots or trailers. Maybe 1 gameplay clip to see the new point and click system in action. Once I have a release date I'm going to be avoiding news and try to go into the game as blind as possible. It's funny before the trailer I felt STARVED! But that trailer... I can't believe its under 2 minutes long. Its so packed with cameos, throwbacks, exciting new moments that I felt like I had seen too much... I kinda wish Stan, Otis and Swordmaster were kept secret as a surprise in the game. Hell even the Loom guy is shown! I'm just hoping there are other returning characters we haven't seen. But man... it does worry me that they don't have a release date by now... what if this becomes a Tmnt Shredder's Revenge situation where they keep saying 2022 and eventually it gets delayed a year...

  22. Heh, I lied. Apparently threatening this as the "final" beta brought out a bunch of bug reports, a few of which needed more invasive fixes. So we'll do (hopefully) one more beta before calling 1.0. Get 1.0b7 here: https://aarongiles.com/dreamm/ Version:1.0b7 • Fix modifier keys (shift/control) in Curse of Monkey Island. • Fix bug in copying from physical media; allow for multiple CDs when copying. • Bump memory for Indy Fate and the Ultimate Talkie Monkeys to 2MB since they can use EMS. • Add CD-ROM menu when game is run from a CD image or physical CD-ROM. • Fix mouse cursor in Maniac Mansion when run from within Day of the Tentacle. • Fix video detection in early games when Tandy sound is not selected. • Suppress error messages for CoMI disc 2 and for Maniac Mansion when found within Day of the Tentacle.

  23. Absolutely. It’s been a while since I want to play a game so badly. It’s not only nostalgia or the fact that I love the franchise. It actually looks really fun to play and I’m genuinely curious about the story and character development

  24. Love them! I like the texture, too. It adds some life to the backgrounds. As for the typography, the original artwork (in Rogue Leaders) gives clearer intention, but your tests really bring the whole thing to life! Also I just found this website... loads of cut lines I never knew existed. Including a dead guy under the DeSoto...
