  1. Influence this! πŸ‘• I beat #Mojole and all I got was this stupid t-shirt. 6/6 πŸ–€πŸ–€πŸ–€πŸ–€πŸ’› πŸ’šπŸ’›πŸ–€πŸ’›πŸ–€ πŸ’šπŸ’šπŸ–€πŸ’›πŸ–€ πŸ’šπŸ’šπŸ’›πŸ–€πŸ–€ πŸ’šπŸ’šπŸ’šπŸ–€πŸ’š πŸ’šπŸ’šπŸ’šπŸ’šπŸ’š https://funzone.mixnmojo.com/Mojole/
  2. LucasArts Extended Universe confirmed!
  3. What I know is that in movies and tv productions it's not done to mix and match union and non union actors. That's why Sonic the Hedgehog keeps changing voice actors, between games and series. Video game land seems to have a kind of a wild west thing going on, although I'm not sure how come. LucasArts have always hired union va's as far as I can remember, so maybe it was just standard protocol, but Telltale clearly used non union VA's in the early days (that's why Sam and Max changed their VA's), and if I remember correctly some of those are in TMI too. (@Jake, even though you weren't involved in casting, maybe you can shed some light on this?)
  4. I've heard that term fly around a lot about the first SE, but are we sure there were budget constraints? Because if there were, why hire grade A Los Angeles based union VO talent? They could've just gone the Telltale route and mix and match the established LA based talent with unknowns who didn't have to be payed union scale. That would've been an easier and better way to cut costs than on voice direction. I think a Steve Purcell cover art isn't very likely either, but I don't think it has anything to do with the backlash (which is still a small minority of the fan base). It probably has more to do with the reason Bill Tiller did the COMI backgrounds, to fit the game's style. Steve's style doesn't really match with Rex's, so I'm sure Rex will do the cover art (which I'm really curious about btw!)
  5. That’s actually VERY interesting, and it explains a lot of things (particularly why Boen’s recordings stand out.) I could never have imagined the SE’s being directed by Darragh O’Farrell, he’s way to good a director for that. Based on his other works, he would’ve never made the mistakes they did. I also remember a throwaway line from Rob Paulsen from one of his Talking Toons podcasts, where he said something like, β€œif you thought that was bad, try being directed by a LucasArts intern”. I always found it oddly specific, and I think he was referencing the MI:SE recordings. I don’t remember the episode number though, nor who the guest was.
  6. This looks interesting. Thanks for the link! I finally played Phantasmagoria last year and I absolutely loved it for what it was! Part 2 is still on my list!
  7. Took me way too long. (Although I was thinking of a different one.) πŸ‘• I beat #Mojole and all I got was this stupid t-shirt. 4/6 πŸ–€πŸ’›πŸ–€πŸ–€πŸ’› πŸ’›πŸ’šπŸ–€πŸ–€πŸ–€ πŸ’šπŸ’šπŸ–€πŸ’›πŸ–€ πŸ’šπŸ’šπŸ’šπŸ’šπŸ’š https://funzone.mixnmojo.com/Mojole/
  8. Funny you said that, my first encounter with Monkey Island was that same demo. It was love at first sight. I don’t have any beef with the casting of the main characters in the SE’s, though I think they too could’ve benefited from better direction. It’s most of the side characters that were newly cast that I don’t like for above mentioned reasons. Compare it to the diverse characters from CMI and how every voice and performance just *clicks*, that just never happens in the SE’s. That’s why I played them once and never touched them again. (Come to think of it, I think I didn’t even finish the first one.) This sums it up very well, and good example!
  9. True, but that’s no excuse for lazy casting and bad direction.
  10. πŸ‘• I beat #Mojole and all I got was this stupid t-shirt. 6/6 πŸ–€πŸ–€πŸ’›πŸ–€πŸ’› πŸ–€πŸ’›πŸ–€πŸ’›πŸ’› πŸ–€πŸ–€πŸ–€πŸ–€πŸ–€ πŸ’›πŸ’šπŸ’šπŸ–€πŸ–€ πŸ–€πŸ’šπŸ’šπŸ’šπŸ–€ πŸ’šπŸ’šπŸ’šπŸ’šπŸ’š https://funzone.mixnmojo.com/Mojole/
  11. Sorry if I post too much about the voice direction of the SE’s. I work in the dubbing industry, so it’s professional deformation. If someone in my field delivered a product in that fashion he’d be butchered, and I just can’t stand that it happened to Monkey Island, something that’s so dear to me.
  12. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, the voice direction was the worst!! What did you think of it in MI2:SE? I recently looked at some footage of Bart and Fink and there’s the generic pirate accents again. (β€œSo, who is this character that I’m playing? What’s his backstory? What does he feel?” β€œHe’s a pirate! Just go AARRR!”) And then the singing… the singing!!! It’s bad enough with Bart and Fink (99 bottles of beer on the wall is totally off, like they put the first take where the last one should be), but as if that wasn’t bad enough, they completely butchered the bone song! Where in the original, I could almost here the voices due to the perfect combination of music and text, the sung version in the SE is out of tune, out of rhythm and plain ugly! And don’t get me started on the voice of Largo… If I could make that second SE of those games (see last page), I’d throw almost all the voices out (except main cast and a few exceptions) and rerecord them.
  13. In the end… I gave up and just wrote FARTS… That’s the low, low level I’ve now sunk to, Remi… I want you to know that. Eep ook ack! I failed at #Mojole. πŸ–€πŸ–€πŸ’›πŸ’›πŸ–€ πŸ’šπŸ’šπŸ–€πŸ’›πŸ–€ πŸ–€πŸ’šπŸ–€πŸ–€πŸ’š πŸ–€πŸ–€πŸ’›πŸ’›πŸ’š πŸ–€πŸ’›πŸ–€πŸ–€πŸ’š πŸ–€πŸ–€πŸ–€πŸ’›πŸ–€ https://funzone.mixnmojo.com/Mojole/
  14. While on the topic of Thimbleweed Park (who was? I was!) and the MI:SE’s (who was? Zaxx was!), that’s actually how I’d like a remaster (or SE) of Monkey Island 1 and 2 to look and play. Use the original sprites and assets, but make them shine with modern shiny new polishy goodness. Add a global lighting system that lights the characters and objects. Make pixeled grass and other details sway in the foreground. Let the water flow with nice Mark Ferrari-ish pallette cycles! Make tiny pixelated moths circle the lights and those kinds of things. Let the soundtracks be remastered by Michael Land, Clint Bajakian and Peter McConnel, and add some more athmospheric sound effects here and there. Those things would be enough to make the game breathe, and make it seem a bit more alive, while still staying true to it’s roots. (Of course the whole thing should be voiced, but they could just use the current SE’s voice assets… (or rerecord everything except the main parts with better casting and direction.))
  15. I’m sorry to hear that, Vainamoinen. I hope you’ll find someone who can help with your eyes. I just had surgery last january to add extra lenses to mine, both my eyes were -7. Anyway, I hope things look up for you too! This is such a positive community, and I feel awful hearing that people feel down. ❀️ I’m currently watching a walkthrough of the first 60 minutes of Thimbleweed Park with Ron Gilbert, and I’m falling completely in love with that game and his writing again! If RtMI is half as amusing, I’m sold!
  16. This is just cruel! πŸ‘• I beat #Mojole and all I got was this stupid t-shirt. 6/6 πŸ–€πŸ’›πŸ–€πŸ–€πŸ–€ πŸ’›πŸ–€πŸ’šπŸ–€πŸ–€ πŸ–€πŸ–€πŸ’šπŸ’›πŸ’š πŸ’šπŸ–€πŸ’šπŸ–€πŸ–€ πŸ’šπŸ’šπŸ’šπŸ–€πŸ–€ πŸ’šπŸ’šπŸ’šπŸ’šπŸ’š https://funzone.mixnmojo.com/Mojole/
  17. That’s terrible to hear. I hope things turn up for you soon, and I’m thankful this new game brought some light in your life when you were feeling down. Take care. ❀️ Ron having to shut the comments down again really makes me sad. People are shitting on his doorstep, and even when he points out to them how rude that is they continue to shit on his doorstep. I hope the team knows it’s just a vocal minority, I know I take comfort in that. @ThunderPeel2001, next time you ask for something new to obsess on, please be more specific. 😜
  18. Whoa! Welcome to the forums, @Crumb! You sure know how to make that first post count! Respect!
  19. Pff! Try waiting for Breath of the Wild 2… Talk about a long time to obsess over the same stuff.
  20. Whoa! I just listened to some clips, and that's a great suggestion! He definitely has the same vocal range and qualities as Earl Boen has! They'd at least have to have him audition! You can check out some clips here! The "Devil King" clip comes closest to LeChuck I think, with the added bonus of almost 20 years since that performance that might've given some more natural deepness to his voice.
  21. About the voice of LeChuck. I’d get a voice actor that has the same vocal range and depth as Earl Boen, give him a sample of the previous voice, give him some room to do his own thing, and give him directions when he sways too much away from Boen. It’s been done before with great results. Boen cannot be replaced without anyone noticing, so the voice will sound different anyway. We’ll just have to accept that. I just hope it won’t be as jarring as Adam Harrington. I’m really, really curious about who they will get, and what he sounds like!!
  22. I’d like to add to this that we can attribute a lot of LeChuck’s scaryness in SMI and MI2 to our own brains. In those games he’s just a little sprite of a couple of pixels tall without a voice, that means our brain fills in the gaps. Every scary undead wrinkle or gaping puss filled hole comes from our imagination, and the sound and delivery of his voice comes from our own fantasy. The sprites are wonderful in their quality that they can suggest all those things, but in the end we do a lot ourselves. (It might be one of the reasons why 16 year old Jake was so put off by the voices of CMI.) Another point is the direction. I’ve watched all of Twin Peaks again last year, and I noticed that some characters change completely when David Lynch is not directing. Benjamin Horne? ClichΓ©d evil businessman when directed by someone else. With the touch of Lynch however, he changes into this naughty nostalgic man child, it makes the character so much more interesting. Same can be said about *shudder* Wyndom Earle. He’s just a cartoon villain in most episodes, with his pan flute and his dancing and crazyness, but in the last episode of season 2, for the short scenes when he’s directed by Lynch, he becomes truly scary and menacing. Check out the scene where he gets Annie out of the car… Gives me the creeps! What I’m trying to say, is that if LeChuck was meant to be scarier in SMI and MI2, it might also be because of Ron’s direction, and we might get a bit of that back in this game!
  23. I was waiting for this! πŸ‘• I beat #Mojole and all I got was this stupid t-shirt. 3/6 πŸ–€πŸ–€πŸ–€πŸ–€πŸ–€ πŸ–€πŸ’›πŸ–€πŸ–€πŸ–€ πŸ’šπŸ’šπŸ’šπŸ’šπŸ’š https://funzone.mixnmojo.com/Mojole/
  24. That means august is not out of the question! I hope august 17th, that would be a great birthday present! 😊
  25. Also, nice work on the poster! It looks great!
