I’m not sold on it either. Frankly I would have preferred Indy to stay with the original trilogy. Those movies are all awesome in their own right. Spielberg, Lucas and Ford were the right people at the right time, lightning in a bottle. You can’t just replicate something like that (although that doesn’t stop Hollywood from trying). Also Harrison Ford is pushing 80, I question how believable he’ll be jumping, falling and kicking and punching all over the place, (and I shudder at the thought of a CGI de-aged Ford.) Maybe I sound like an old grouch, but Indy’s my favourite hero of all time. I’d hate to see them ruïn him (arguably a second time). Is it his last soundtrack before retiring? That IS awesome! I hope it’ll be as epic as Last Crusade and that the editing won’t be too fast, so he’ll really have time to create something beautiful in it’s own right!

I don’t read it as such. When he’s saying “don’t be afraid to enrage your audience”, I think what he means is, don’t let expectations of others cloud the idea you have. In a time in which he has to close down the comments to his blog because of other peoples expectations, this rules more true than ever. I agree with the rest he says about art having to be challenging.

First things first: please put my quoted comment in spoiler tags, I wouldn’t want people who haven’t played the ending to read that. Back on the off topic: Anyway, it’s nice to hear a different opinion on it. Some things resonate differently with different people I guess. With me it even changes with the way I go into a product. My opinions have been known to change based on second viewings/playthroughs. Back on the on topic: I’m curious to what Ron will come up with this time! I doubt RMI will end in any way that we expect! This will be very likely! And maybe in 10 years we’ll be talking about how the MI7 writers came up with a huge monologue by LeChuck where they try to overexplain the ending Ron set them up with. 😉

@CalisDraws, I found something that might help you make the ultimate LucasArts Big Box facsimile! I found these ZakMcKracken uncut box print plates online. They were on Ebay, but they're long sold now. The seller claimed they were real. Maybe you can use them to get the exact dimensions, or to get a feel of how the boxes are when they're unfolded.

Thanks for clearing that up. I like this idea! If this was executed right, it could work brilliantly! In part one Guybrush was an innocent youth, but in part two you can already see his ego getting the best of him. Old Guybrush could be a cynical old man, eaten away by the ego he developed in the years. The goal could be to, through flashbacks that may be very exaggerated, get him to let go of his ego and regain his innocence and purity. In the process this could make the player doubt everything that Guybrush has experienced in the previous games. What is true? And what is make belief? When done right, it could be more Mulholland Drive than Twin Peaks.

I’m not to keen on the “Guybrush revisits the old games” theme that keeps popping up the last couple of pages. While it’s a nice homage to the series, it’s again nothing new. It’s recycling old ideas for a couple of cents of nostalgia. And while that obviously scores (looking at you Spider-Man), it does not make for something new, and it doesn’t make a good story most of the time. And come on, if you were Ron Gilbert, and you’d finally be able to make a Monkey Island again after 30 years, would you spend that time looking back at old games, most of which you had nothing to do with? I think whatever is coming is going to be totally unique for MI, and there will be very little nostalgia involved, aside from the recurring themes, islands and characters.

I never had a problem with the mazes and I remember the swamp puzzle as one of the highlights of the otherwise very flawed EMI. Actually Lucre Island was pretty fun as a whole if I remember correctly. I can do without insult swordfighting (or any variation on it) in RMI. I enjoyed it in SMI and CMI, but it would feel stale if it turned up again.
