October 09, 2003 - LucasArts reported today that Simon Jeffery has resigned from his position of President of the company. Very little is known about his reasons at this time, though it does appear as though his announcement came as a surprise.

Woah! what's up with that?

Anyone got anything more on that?

The announcement, first reported in the Los Angeles Times, surprised many in the game industry. Others, though, saw the resignation as just the most recent in a wave of recent departures, which have included several prominent decision-makers.

yep, there have been.

maybe he left to get his sex change operation he has been waiting for... then off to vegas to become a cabaret singer named candy.

people can just get bored of their jobs and want to do something else, i certainly don't think Lucasarts is in any trouble.

Yay! They haven't made a decent game since he started!

(Ok, that is probably overdoing it, as i don't know when he actually started:rolleyes: But Their focus over the last 5 years seems to have switched from making classic games to milking their licences for as much as they can get.)

Been a number of games cancelled fairly late on as well.

I would have thought Lucasarts had the enviable position of being both a small, independent developer/publisher, having a number of classic licences and having a hugely rich parent company to support them. They should be able to be inovative and make quality games (like they used to, or like Looking Glass without the financial problems). If they are in financial trouble then GL will just have to release another set of slightly more special (ruined) edition SW videos. :D

I believe he started in 2000, and the reason they haven't released so many classic games is because some of the last ones have sold badly (Grim Fandango, Escape from M.I., etc.). Also because the prequels are supposed to make star wars ultra popular again and everyone will buy those games.

I'm going to have to enter Exhibit A into the fold, which was a rather large article in Computer Gaming World involving the future of the Star Wars series (it had JO, SWG, Battlegrounds, etc in it). Right at the end of it was an interview with Simon Jeffery.

In it was one of the most obvious bull**** phrases I have ever heard, since I had little hope for SOE to be able to pull off what they were demonstrating with SWG:

"We want to make a quality Star Wars game that the consumer will be happy with."

I feel that phrase has come back to bite him in the ass.
