OK, sabre's back to asking nerdy computer questions...

I've heard WinXP is good and all and I want to upgrade my WinME, but is it worth it? I want XP, but I've heard it doesn't support old games. I just wanna confirm. I've been lookin' around the web for answers but got none. I'm talkin' about the REALLY old games here, like Mario and the rest. Bring in any reviews if you like too.

WINDOWS ME SUX

Believe me, it sux, we had it for awile, it would crash every second and we couldn't do anything on it.

Although it is true that you can't play some old games on XP. My bro has trouble getting Tie Fighter to work but he eventually got it running.

Longhorn wont be out till early 2006, but XP Is definitely the best OS. ME is a joke. I recommend you to upgrade

And if the games dont work you can alwyas partition your hard drive so you got 2 windows runnign and you can still run those old games :)

The vast improvement in every way that XP is over previous incarnations of the Windows OS is worth the occasional hassle involved with some getting older software to work (which isn't usually that difficult.)

I say go for it and don't look back!

if you're running xp pro sp1 or greater you really shouldnt have too many problems with current games, its really the vid card that affects things moreso.... with older games, well I really dont play many, perhaps the oldest I play is Rebel Assault II, but I dont need compatibility mode for that.....

XP was the go for me because of the connectivity, I do alot of digital video editing, digital stills and I need to be able to plug into USB and not worry about meddlesome installations...

of course, it has its downers too. every time somethin strange happens, you get that damn send error report, does anyone actually receive/respond to those ??!!

I upgraded my old p3.800 to xp, from Me, the difference was startling.............xp might not be fantastic, but ME was shyte !

I'll bet you all the gil I've saved up that I can get Dark Forces AND Jedi Knight 1 up and running on my XP.

Watch the master at work, Sabre, my friend! You should also upgrade to XP, as it rocks over Win 98 and ME!

We switched to XP after we formatted our hard drive and had trouble finding drivers for all our old stuff(@#$#$& Compaq). Windows XP contained those drivers, so we were able to get everything working. I've been able to get DF to work on it(I forget how), but the sound is kind of crappy.

Here's the big problem with ME other than it sucks. It is (or about to be) no longer supported by Microsoft. It came out a long time ago that MS would not support it any longer. So no more patched and updates for it. The good news is that some of the new viruses out there don't affect ME.

You could? That's magical. What else can you do? Pull a rabbit out of a hat? Saw a girl in half? You might look into the whole making an ass out of yourself thing. That would be truely magical, and perhaps even an upgrade.

One last thing. If you do go up to XP, try and get Pro. It's better that the Home edition. Also, make sure when you are upgrading to XP, do a full wipe and install. Not a good idea to have any traces of ME around while running XP. Heard it can and does mess the system up.
