many here know that alot of FPS games make poor astro dizzy :(

but of the ones listed, Ive only ever played the JK games to completion(and JO and JA I spent 99% of the time in 3rd person view) The only game that I have played in fp view for any particular period of time was elite force 1 and 2. In fact, EF2 was on my HD for anbout 12 months and I still hadnt finished it. ah well, no big loss :p

hmmm...soemone should start a 'best RPG Poll'......

I disagree with everyone who says halo simply because halo wasn't revolutionary in any major way to FPSs in general, or indeed have anything not before seen in them. Its an excellent game, but not the best.

Damn, this is hard. I'm generally not a big fan of FPS's, but some gems have been just amazing and I can't really compare them. The Jedi Knight series comes first - brilliant games (and Star Wars too XD), and I still play them all now and then. Elite Force MP is probably the best online shooter I've ever played. The original Goldeneye and Perfect Dark on the N64 have never been surpassed in terms of gameplay, IMO :) I never got into Half-Life or Quake, and...*straps on bulletproof armour*...IMO, Halo is a really overrated game.

ive played more than half of those FPS and as i said before my vote is halo, but this thread is kind of funny, unless your talking about the game specs, its an opinion vote, so no one can say which the bast FPS is.

The way I see it, given that gaming is a personal experience, if it is my favorite, then it *is* the best. Just as my criteria for what makes a game good are the only ones that matter to me. So JK series are the best. Halo and HL are most over-rated.

Perfect Dark

Goldeneye

Halo

Never really played any others though.

And to all the ones saying halo is overrated, maybe it is. I don't care, it's still fun for me and I'm working on beating it for the 43rd time.

We've all agreed its a great game, Bongo, and its fun, but as THE best FPS, I dunno how any person who's played the true great ones, or a great PC shooter can really choose it,

Other, referring to whatever the very first FPS was, just because without, none of your little Half Lifes and Halos would exist.

Wolfstein 3d? Never played it so I'm not judging it.

BTW, RPS looks really funny. Role-playing shooter?

meh, i changed my mind. Halo is definetely my favorite FPS. i like it because the outdoor battles are brilliant, plus the artificial intelligence of the enemies is very, very good.

BWAHAHHAHHHAHAHAHAHHA!!!!!! :xp: OMFG, sorry, but I have it, it is definantly not the best shooter! :D its not even really that fun, the SP is boring, and the MP is slow.... :D

I'd have to say that the best FPS would be one that combined elements of all of them:

Dual-wielding, the higher the difficulty, the more objectives there are and the pause menu from Goldeneye 64

The varied MP modes and unlockables from Timesplitters 2

The outdoor enviroments, veichles and friendly units from Halo

The physics and AI from what we've seen of HL2

The humor from Duke Nukem

The monsters from Doom

The awesome scripted sequences from CoD and MoH

Optional tactical gameplay, which is styled like R6, SWAT and others.

The freedom from Deus Ex, story line and gameplay wise

Unreal series enviroments and MP

Operation Flashpoint's different mission outcome, and in higher difficulties, wounds and weapon limit system (basically if you got shot in the leg you could only crawl, and if your team got wiped out you were ordered to go back to base, etc. Weapon limit was based on weight, and ammo was limited too.)

Metroid Prime's different views, like the scan view, etc.

JK series' saber and force-power system (Doesn't have to be SW related, but maybe like a sword or a bat (longtime members: Remember the batsaber) something like that

A humor-filled Serious-sam like mode with combos for enemies killed, and the giant end boss

The guns and gadgets from all these games

Feel free to add any more ideas to this list

EDIT: Oh, and optional weapons custommibility and creepy levels System Shock 2 style, don't make it so that you needto upgrade them to survive, but make it so that it's a bonus that makes the game easier, but don't make the game-ultra-hard to get by wtihout em.

That would be Hovertank 3D. :)

(Most people probably don't know it but there were actually two FPS games, Hovertank 3D and Catacombs 3D, that came out before Wolfenstein 3D)
