How did you find LucasForums?

Before we all registered here, we all had to find it first... So tell us your story!

For me...

When I was searching for some KoTOR II info on the GameFAQs message boards(like last summer), some links over there eventually lead me here. I even remember viewing Rat Boy's thread from a LONG time ago. Now, I obviously didn't join immediately, and I only waited until the start of next year to join, probably to start off fresh for the New Year or something.

So that's my story.

And here I am. :D

I was browsing around for stuff on Jedi Academy, when I stumbled upon this snug little JA forum. I entered and found tons of threads I can post in. I used to be a veteran at another forum earlier, but it sucked and was brimming with Under 15s. This place looked better and believe me: This place, it's like my second home. These members, they're my only friends, this community: Dunno where I'd be without it. Truly, nothing can beat LucasForums.

I had beating Kotor 1 and thought it was a great game. I decided to look for mods and came across pcgamemods. That, obviously, led me here. I've registered at a forum or two in the past, but never really posted. A while back, I asked a question and I decided to stick around.

Perhaps the force is keeping me here. It certainly isn't my modding skills!!!

I was surfing Bioware's forums and someone had posted a screenshot with a modded robe in it. Someone asked where they got the robe, and the original poster put up a link to Holowan Labs. Never found the robes that were in the screenie, but I quickly became part of the scenery. FWIW, I don't think I've been back to the BW forums since ;)

I was getting info on Galactic Battlegrounds, and I used GalacticBattles.com to get it. They just happened to have a section on these forums. Much later when KOTOR was developed I decided to take a look at these forums to see if they have anything KOTOR so I ended up here.

Back for KotOR 1, I was on the GameFAQ's Messageboard, and a couple of people were asking where they could find "mods" for KotOR and I asked them what a "mod" was and followed the link to Holowan, so basically I didn't know what a mod was until about the middle (May) of KotOR modding, and who knew, that I would be making mods and modeling, let's see my first mod added a +3 strength attribute to a saber, and since then I've made a couple of tiny modules, several models, and a couple of rather large item packs with RedHawke, and even some poor re-skins... lol, goes to show how much a good group of people and an excellent group of friends can teach you, thanks guys

I was looking for TSL info and browsed around the official site and when I couldn't find the info I wanted I thought I should try the boards and in the forum links on the TSL site there is one LucasArts forum and StarwarsKnights forum. I tried Lucasarts forum first but found that there were only a bunch of children there so I almost gave up but decided to try out StarwarsKnights too and... jeez! I found a bunch of interesting, respectful and nice people and... here I still am.

...a Sith Probe right now with, oh I don't know, 116 posts maybe?

it was a complete accident for me. back when i bought the original Kotor game, i honestly didn't think there would be any mods for it, so i was originally planning on trading it in down @ EB Games for Far Cry or something after i had played it 5 million times or so. but back in like, April or March 2004 (i really don't remember specifics), i was looking for an .exe patch for the game, and managed to come across a couple of mods posted on Gamespot's DLX service.

after dl'ing the files and installing them, i found some links to Holowan in the readme's. and for the curious, those first mods were the Hardcore mod, Twi'lek Mania Mod, the Carnival Mod, and the Arena Mod (all made by Talchia).

Exactly the same thing here: I was getting bored and I was looking for a quick swoop racing fix as I couldn't beat swoop racing on my low end machine at that time (too much lag)

sooo...I found the place, didn't find any swoop racing mod, downloaded the first version of Kotor Tool (hehe it was nothing compared to what it is today - modding kotor has gone a long way since then), browsed the files, tried to figure out how it worked and made an easy swoop racing mod...to take a famous latin quote:

veni, vidi, moddi
(I came , I saw, I modded)

* remembers old days where we had to make and edit .dlg files with a gff editor without seeing the original entries with nostalgia * :nut:

edit: Montnoir, you'll find the Twilekmania mod here: http://home.t-online.de/home/Talchia/english.html

and a bunch of older (and recent) sites in this sticky: http://www.lucasforums.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=143413

I don't remember exactly what I was googling but I found http://www.sith-res.tk first which was Lil' Jawa's old msg board. From there I found links to both http://nwn.bioware.com/developers and these forums. Given the file formats, I thought it'd be cool to make a tool that could read 2da files, extract from ERFs etc... then I saw that Fred Tetra had just released the 1st version of KotOR Tool, so I figured he had that covered. I set my sights instead on a savegame editor that was GUI and easy to use. Because Fred's treeview seemed easy to use, I chose to use one also for KSE.

Holowan Labs was very exciting back then because it was all a big mystery that we were discovering.

I was actually looking for NWN "extra" tools because I was wanting to get into modding...

The link I followed however took me to Fred's KotOR Tool thread... (perhaps a Google error, but I'm rather thankful for it)... after reading it and few of the other threads (because as many others have said, everyone was very supportive)... this "KotOR" game sounded like tons of fun..

that's right... I didn't even own the game until after I found these forums! :D

After I beat the game, I created an account on Holowan, and have been here ever since....

I was looking for some mods for Jedi Academy on google, and found a thread here about a mod. ABout a week after I registered, and here I am. I did take quite a few big breaks from here though, I was either really busy, forgot to come back, or moved ((The last time I had a big break.)). So hopefully I'm back for good now.

I'd been getting bored with KOTOR (It gets boring when you've played the game for over ten months without mods :xp: )

I'd been playing Jedi Academy at the time, and a friend of mine showed me a mod site... which was PCgamemods. I then noticed the KOTOR section, re-installed the game, dowloaded a TON of mods, and while downloading the plug-in, I saw a link to Holowan....

I lurked around the site for about a month, and then decided to join. I'm surprised I've remained here for so long when not being able to mod... It's just a great forum. :D A lot better than some of the other forums out there... no, chat rooms would be the term.
