Although sometimes you see a post that is hard to read (to the point where you really have to work to understand the fundamental meaning behind the person's words), I can't say that poor grammar or spelling bothers me that much.

After all, we can't all excel at written language (for various reasons), and in my view should not simply dismiss out of hand anyone's opinions or comments only because we expect others to raise themselves to a particular given literary standard. The internet is, first and foremost, a channel for communication - regardless of how structured or 'formal' that communication may be.

When it comes to the English language as a whole, with all it's particular grammatical rules, I can't really say it's a good example of how writing should be conducted, with words that often have multiple meanings, or words with different spelling that sound exactly alike. I actually wouldn't mind seeing the English language re-written phonetically, ditching all the unnecessary inclusion of letters that are never sounded when spoken, and with additional words to take the place of those that can often be confused.

Quite frankly I view the English language as a messy mish-mash of words borrowed from just about every other language, stumbling over it's own rules and intricacies to make it as penetrable as fog to those who do not have English as a first language - and often to those who do.

I would have to say I get more annoyed with 'grammar nazis' who pedantically pick holes in other people's posts to the point where they are trying to belittle the 'offender' and make their comments seem unimportant. Correcting spelling and grammar simply detracts from the actual message that person is trying to convey, and in my view actually provides more of a barrier to communication, rather than assisting a free flow of ideas.

But that's just my opinion, and you can do with it as you will.

I don't spell and type English so well. :/ I guess that makes me hated and annoying.

Nah, you're hated because you bring up the weirdest **** to bitch about for no reason. Porn, morals, etc.

At least Vlad's post are readable. I find it funny when a person whom is not a native English speaker can write, or speak, better than someone born in a primarily English speaking country.

The most annoying thing, to me anyway, is people that have not mastered the use of paragraphs. If I see a big block of text, I usually skip over it.

Yes. It's so easy to fix, yet some people just ignore it completely. All you need to do is proofread everything and then you are set.

wow. you proof read your posts?

you must have a lot of time on your hands >_< no offence.

and yes i hate bad/poor grammar, blah to you Achilles. anyway as long as I can understand them to a point where I don't have to drag my lil brother over to read it I don't mind. my crime is the rare use of of the shift key and my occasional type >_<

Indeed. It is very distressing, especially when those very people make claims that they're superior because their people created the language, etc.

PS: just incase it wasn't obvious, Vlad you aren't hated. I was just making a joke. So please don't make a post taking it seriously.

If you are still learning English or it is not your native language I have a lot of understanding for that, but when someone who was born in an English speaking country and refuses to make intljnt llukking ps0tz lkei dzi sntanze lolol1!1!1!!!!!1!!!1 :):):):). I cannot stand that, so when someone new comes along asking for the obvious but uses good grammar it is my nature to treat them with respect because they at least care about how their posts look and how they seem to us other forumers. But when somebody registers, makes 1-2 posts wit gramer leik dis cuz i,m leetre den yuo, my nature is too either ignore them or throw the obvious in their faces. If its a little slip up thats common or a tyop like that I can understand but, if you don't take the way you look seriously how can you expect other people to?

I voted "hate it" but there are certain circumstances where I am obliged to let them know how they tpey adn spaek iz impertentt. :xp:

How about making a downloadable 13371473|2 (sp?XP)

[Declaration: I know 50,000 forms of communication, including 1337, Jargon, True mumble...both Cajun and Frontiersman, Redneck, Fatfingered typist, Anti-comma,

And last but certainly not least Pretentious-Obssesive-Compulsive-Critiquey-Imagenius]

[Addendum: As my title states, I am not only a translator, but also 1337 and will p0wn all illiterate meatbags in my presence]

I just writes the way I'z talk, kinda collission of whatever I want from whatever dialect, spelling, language, attitude I want,

Rest assured, if you met me in real life, you'd wish you were reading text, that way you have a PGdown button

I don't think that my posts are so readable. Every once in a while I get lost in my writing and I forget what I wanted to say.

If you thought that I was going to whine like a weakling just because of that, then you were wrong. I didn't whine when I was called a hypocrite, I didn't whine when I was added to someones ignore list, I didn't whine when I was called ignorant and stupid; and I'm no going to whine if I am hated (especially the last one because I got used to it).

So if I wish to be hard as a rock and cold as ice; I have to halt myself from whining and crying. That's all I was going to say...

My own grasp of english is far from perfect as it's not my native language, so it would be fairly hypocritical to get annoyed by others who aren't writing letter-perfect english. As long as I can understand the meaning of what is written I'm not bothered by it. :)

Besides, it's not like anyone is forcing you to read what people write anyway. If someone's post really makes your eyes hurt it's easier just to skip it and read something else. Lack of paragraphs and no use of punctuation is usually a bigger factor here than (other) grammatical mistakes.

Some peoples' posts are worth reading even if they need some deciphering work first though. I occasionally copy&paste posts by people who are worth the extra effort into a text editor and apply parapraphs, punctuation and capitalization before I read it. :)

It doesn't really fuss me too much as long as you can understand what they're saying. If its completely incoherent or abbreviated too much it does annoy me a bit. It's a fact that people make mistakes when writing posts, but i do agree just a simple proof read is needed.

I however, really don't like 1337 internet "speech".

Not true. That's like saying "If I can run the hundred metres, so can Stephen Hawking!"

No, because I am dyslexic and slightly lazy, so my statement stands. If I can do it, anyone can.

The Steven Hawking comment would only work if I too was in a situation like his, but I'm not so I can't say that.

Truth is, dyslexics have programs where they can learn techniques to help them communicate better.

Not true. Dyslexia affects different people to different degrees. With some, their dyslexia is so severe that they require an amanuensis (sp?) to write exam scripts for them.

So how exactly does that not help them to communicate better?

There exist techniques and technology to help dyslexic people of all degrees.

All they have to do is take initiative, so yeah anyone can do it if they don't wimp out.

I meant essay paper wise. No offence taken. On message boards the only thing that bothers me is when people use weird internet language.

We shouldn't leave it at that. I guess that this is a good time to vent out a bit of anger and frustration in a calm and civil manner :)

Good spelling is a must. There are many reasons. First, it's easier to read. Second, people take you seriously if you know how to spell. Finally, if you can't spell right, you should go take an English class. Now. I will kill you if you don't.

Seriously, Vlad here is from Serbia. Serbia tiny country in the Balkans far from most English speaking countries. He has better spelling then some people to who English is the native tongue...

There's also the case of people who are "lazy". Does putting commas or apostrophes take that long? What about typing "u" instead of "you"? Does hitting two more keys spends so much calories that it will exhaust you?
