Darth Andrew Posted December 5, 2005 Posted December 5, 2005 I found this interesting Xbox 360 ad (on another forum) that I posted in Yoda's Swamp earlier today that was apparently barred from appearing on TV: http://microsoft.blognewschannel.com/index.php/archives/2005/11/22/banned-xbox-360-ad-best-ad-ever/ It's a shame, since this is a very orignal commercial. So, should it have gone on the airwaves?
RobQel-Droma Posted December 5, 2005 Posted December 5, 2005 That is one of the best commercials I have ever seen! That was hilarious . I don't understand why they banned it? Because of all the "shooting"?
Aash Li Posted December 5, 2005 Posted December 5, 2005 Ok, let me get this straight... M$ made this commercial, and now M$ is banning their own commercial?? How stupid can you get... Personally, I didnt think it was all that funny or great - not because of the shooting, just didnt think it was funny. Goofy yes, but not funny.
Archon II Posted December 5, 2005 Posted December 5, 2005 Funniest commercial I've seen in a long time.
JediKnight707 Posted December 5, 2005 Posted December 5, 2005 That was awesome. After I watched it I went up to my mom and went "BANG!" She was confused. I also like their commercial where all the water balloons are being dropped. Love these new commercials by MS.
darthsidious666 Posted December 5, 2005 Posted December 5, 2005 That commercial was awsome. It really is a shame that it won't be airing.
Astrotoy7 Posted December 5, 2005 Posted December 5, 2005 I see how its funny but I also see why it was withdrawn.... as opposed to "banned" ...and in doing so M$ simply draws more attention to itself and the launch of its console. A nice marketing ploy, which it seems we are all falling for mtfbwya
Lynk Former Posted December 5, 2005 Posted December 5, 2005 It is a nice marketting ploy indeed, it attracts the people M$ knows is gonna go for it and if there is anyone who is offended by it for whatever reason, they can't say jack, but it's still out there and affective enough to be worth the money it cost to make it.
montnoir Posted December 5, 2005 Posted December 5, 2005 ...affective enough to be worth the money it cost to make it. I don't know, it looked like they closed off a major central station for the duration of the shoot. Sounds expensive. I didn't find it funny, nor very appealing. And good thing they withdrew it, because otherwise I would have a bunch of hip idiotic kids shouting "BANG" at each other everywhere I go.

And you think that the cost of that would be too much for Microsoft? People have done more expensive things for advertising for less of a reward. The thing is that Microsoft wants to attract the kind of gamer who WILL find this on the internet. It cost a bit to make the advert, it'll cost more to put it on TV or at the movies... so why not use the Internet to advertise it for you. This so called "banned" ad will catch peoples attentions and it's exactly the people Microsoft wants to attract, the folks who are on the Internet. Think about it, Microsofts biggest asset is its online network.
MdKnightR Posted December 5, 2005 Posted December 5, 2005 Sorry to be a party-pooper, but that was one of the dumbest commercials I have ever seen! I'm glad it got pulled.
Lynk Former Posted December 5, 2005 Posted December 5, 2005 XD it is stupid, that's why people love it.
Bastila Posted December 5, 2005 Posted December 5, 2005 Thats was funny, but you can see why they banned it kids walking round going bang bang, but i was good though.
stingerhs Posted December 5, 2005 Posted December 5, 2005 not bad. the best part was the end with the guy on his cell phone. classic.
Hannibal Posted December 5, 2005 Posted December 5, 2005 I was expecting something else when I read here that it was the best commercial some have seen. It has about as much to do with a video game system as the stupid double dutch commericials do. I doubt that would've convinced people to buy 360s. Just would've angered over sensitive parent groups.
El Sitherino Posted December 5, 2005 Posted December 5, 2005 I would have a bunch of hip idiotic kids shouting "BANG" at each other everywhere I go. You mean they don't already? I'm fairly certain most kids play whatever the modern version of "cowboys and indians" is. Anyway, this was never intended to "air".
montnoir Posted December 5, 2005 Posted December 5, 2005 I'm fairly certain most kids play whatever the modern version of "cowboys and indians" is. I'm sure most of them play counter strike and not the old-school cowboys n injuns that we're used to. But my point was as with most pop-culture fenomena, whenever a new catchphrase (whazzuuuuuup comes to mind) is advertised or "funny" gesture on a primetime commercial, people will ape it. There are lots of examples, "Whazuuuuuup" would be one. Another one would be: the Heinken "double nod" that every "cool" guy used when at a bar, etc.
Vladimir-Vlada Posted December 5, 2005 Posted December 5, 2005 That was so dumb. LOL! How childish can people be? And that guy with the newspaper and the cell phone...
ET Warrior Posted December 5, 2005 Posted December 5, 2005 It may be the greatest advertisement for anything ever. I found it to be absolutely delightful
RobQel-Droma Posted December 5, 2005 Posted December 5, 2005 I wasn't exactly sure how it tied in with the Xbox 360, but it was just hilarious to see all these people running around pretending to shoot each other and get shot themselves. The guy reading the newspaper while shooting without even looking was pretty funny, as was the guy in the taxi ("Wait, just one moment. Ok, goodbye *click* Ok, now I'll pretend to get shot)
T7nowhere Posted December 5, 2005 Posted December 5, 2005 That was so lame, and I still don't want an Xbox 360
Aash Li Posted December 5, 2005 Posted December 5, 2005 The guy with the cell phone in the taxi was the best part. Delayed reaction. Still doesnt make me want a xbox... theres so many japanese ps2 games Id rather buy. hehe
Vladimir-Vlada Posted December 5, 2005 Posted December 5, 2005 Still doesnt make me want a xbox... theres so many japanese ps2 games Id rather buy. hehe Please ignore the following opinion about X-Box and don't start a discussion, the individual that stated this wasn't aware of what he was saying I say that we ban all consoles. They are THE most useless electronic based product that was ever made for the market in the history of mankind.
