Well, it looks like there's hope (and a new hero) for us "maturing" gamers afterall :xp: .. hehehe...

I'd love to see what Granny's game room looks like :D

Rather inspirational, for me at least, it's good to see that gaming doesn't "die" along with age. Though it probably wouldn't have for me (read: I'm a Geek, or "game enthusiast" rather.. hehe), I'm comforted in the fact that there are other gamers that game for the sake of having fun...no matter what the "suggested age" of a game/toy may be.. hehehe...

Go Granny Go!

So.. what about you? Would you stop gaming or collecting toys just because someone 'mentioned' "You're too old to be playing video games"? or perhaps get the "strange look" at the toy store counter?

I will play games untill there are no more games I want to play. Either that, or when I cant hold a mouse anymore!

Her "official" site has some vids of her playing games. She REALLY gets into them!

Isn't the average age of gamers around 30? Its not so odd anymore for grown men and women to play games. We grew up with them! Our parents grew up with penuckle and they didn't outgrow that. heh

Its a generational thing. Games are not just for kids anymore. In fact, the oppisite is probably true. Most games are geared to an older player nowadays.

Some of my family still gives me a hard time about collecting Yodas/other SW memorabilia. They have their toys, I have mine. :)

I don't get too many funny looks when buying toys because the cashiers think I'm getting them for my kids. I just neglect to let them know that I plan on playing with them, too. Why else do we parents 'put together the toys on Christmas Eve?' :giggle1:

Seriously, I'm hoping that playing some games will allow me to have more things in common with my kids once they hit the teen years. I know they'll have their interests and I'll have mine, but if playing KOTOR 5 (or whatever) together helps keep communication open by providing another starting point for conversation, then that's A Good Thing. It's not that I anticipate poor communication, but the more positive things we can share, the better. I'm not interesting in being 'the parent reading the newspaper in one room while the teen plays video games in the other room and they only say about 5 words to each other in passing.' Some of my best memories growing up involve my family and me sitting around playing Life or Mousetrap or Atari--we talked and laughed and had a good time. I'd like to build that kind of interaction/memories in my family, too.

Of course, if the games are great fun, even better!

Good for her. It's rare for me to see people her age actually enjoying something in their life.

I myself am going to be gaming and posting until I develop carpul tunnels syndrome, or whatever the heck it's called. You can never get rid of me, fools!! [insert lame 19th century serial villain laugh here]

I plan to keep playing video games until I'm old and senile

That would be like this (if you where playing Halo X):

RTG: I'm gonna kill someone like its 1987! Yeehaw! *picks up shotgun* *runs around with shotgun for 2 minutes* Ahh where did this shotgun come from?!?!

Guy on Team: they have a sniper on the tower!

RTG: Who the hell are you?!? Where am I?

Its good to see that there are older gamers, it means that there'll be more competition. And that there'll be less 'you're too old play video games, go play bingo with your grandma'.

I heard a story about "Old Grandma Hardcore" on NPR a few weeks ago (she sounds much older than she looks). After hearing the piece, I almost made up my mind to give my grandma my PS2...almost :)

As for me...

Plan A: Early retirement followed by a few decades on a yacht followed by living out the rest of my days while teaching business and pursuing philanthropic interests.

Plan B: Work until I die, teach, do some community service and play video games.

Either one is perfectly ok with me.

As I see it, there's nothing wrong with playing video games. Why should you stop once you become an adult? I'm over 18, and I (obviously) play video games. It's a fun activity, and it's better than just watching a television for hours.

As for what other people think? That's completely irrelevent. What kind of person lets other people's opinions dominate what they do for fun?
