montnoir
The Life of David Gale gave me the shakes for weeks, because things like that really happen... it's not fiction *shudder* Otherwise the vison of "fish-boy" in House of 1000 Corpses gave me mental flashbacks for a couple of days afterwards. Perfect blend of physical and psychological horror, it shows you the horror and lets you understand that there are many more disturbing things behind the obvious. Hayden Kered
The Holloween movies made me paranoid, but the scariest movie that I can remember watching was Darkness Falls.
MTV2
we've become soo immune to horror that hollywoods having a hard time scaring us. look at the old horror movies, some people thoguht the shinning was really scary back then, like at the part where the kid is in the hall and sees the 2 girls, some people got really scared at that. the Discovery channel said that the more horror we watch, the less likely we are to get scared. though, i'd have to say Signs was pretty scary, when the kid was by the furnace or w/e it was, one of the aliens grabbed him...now, everytime i go to bed, i think an aliens gunna grab me in the face >.<

MdKnightR
What's the scariest movie you've ever seen? I just watched (some) of Dawn of the Dead and it was pretty damn scary. What about you? I would have to agree that this is the scariest movie of all time. But, then again, I am necrophobic. I went to the theatre with a friend who wanted to see it and I just about had a heart attack before they even got to the mall. I still have bad dreams about it to this day. RaV™
I actually saw Dawn Of The Dead. If memory serves me correct the only scary part was when that guy's arm got bit. Or was that land of the dead?
Cygnus Q'ol
I had nightmares as a kid from the horrific impact Jaws had on me. Once, down in Miami, I flipped a waverunner over about a half-mile out (way too far out to be alone) and I had a serious panic attack while treading with nothing but deep green/blue beneath me and exhausting myself trying to flip it back. The shiver still runs through me when I think about it. All because of a movie I saw as a kid. That damn Spielberg. But, nothing scared me more than the thought of being buried alive and still conscious like those from the movie The Serpent and the Rainbow. I'm starting to sweat just thinking about that. lukeiamyourdad
Pfff The Ring was crap. I watched because everyone was praising it. Turns out it wasn't anything special. Only the weird video was slightly creepy. The video was cool though. The last movie that scared the crap out of me was Arachnophobia. Obviously, it's just because I don't like spiders...really...I don't like them...they scare me...*cries*

The Seeker
Yeah, I have to agree with the others that The Ring wasn't that great and Dawn of the Dead is near the top of the list, but what about 28 Days Later? That was a zombie apocalypse flick that terrified me. As opposed to Dawn of the Dead, 28DL just hit a "realistic" chord in me, you know. Almost came across as something that could really happen, and portrayed people as they would really act. Don't get me wrong though, Dawn of the Dead was awsomeness personafied. Ving Rhames was badass and the entire movie still sticks with me, but 28DL, I think takes the cake for scary.

Obviously, it's just because I don't like spiders...really...I don't like them...they scare me...*cries* While not "crap," The Ring wasn't scary (the Grudge was worse). It had an interesting story, but the only scary part for me was when she crawled out of the TV toward the end. Of course that was probably amplified by the fact that I watched it after it came out on DVD. Pretty horrifying to see someone crawl out of a TV when you are watching a TV. Arachnophobia wasn't a particularly scary film either, but there was something frightening that happened as I was watching it. I also watched it for the 1st time after being released to video. We were watching a tense scene when I felt something shoot down the back of my neck and into my shirt! I came off that chair screaming! After thrashing about to get my shirt off, I realized that a moth was the culprit. Pretty horrific!
Q
When it comes to which movies that I find to be scary I'm probably among the minority. I don't find movies that rely on visual effects to be all that scary; they just tend to turn my stomach (and only the really good and gross ones at that!), and therefore fit into the same genre as John Waters' imfamous "Pink Famingoes" (If you can sit through that film, you can withstand anything-TRULY DISGUSTING!). The movies that I find to be REALLY scary are the ones that take the psychological approach, especially those that feature a DEMONIC aspect. That being said, a movie would have to portray this well in order for me to consider it scary. As an example, I would say that the original "Exorcist" was pretty darn scary (very well done), while the original "Amityville Horror" was pretty darn stupid (very poorly done-CORNY). I believe that the reason that most people don't find this particular type of movie scary is that they don't believe that there is such a thing as demonic influence in everyday reality. I do, and that's why my picks for scariest movies would have to include the original "Exorcist", "The Omen" and "Omen II", "The Shining" (although this one had real comic relief in it as well-I LOVE Jack!), the original "Carrie", the original "Psycho" (I believe insanity=demonic possession), and "Ghost Story". The last one I mentioned is little known nowadays, and anyone who hasn't seen it should check it out. Even if you don't find it scary, you'll like the storyline and the terrific acting by some real legends of the Silver Screen who are now long gone. "Twin Peaks" (the series and the movie, "Fire Walk With Me") fits in this category, but it's more fascinating than scary-very worth watching! The original "Fright Night" was also not very scary, but very fun to watch. As for films without a demonic aspect, the original "Alien" was pretty suspenseful/scary. And so concludes my CONSIDERABLE brain droppings on this subject. Sorry about the super-long post, folks! Q
Jae Onasi
I respectfully beg to differ on the 'insanity=demonic possession' idea. I am not saying that someone can't be demon possessed (I've met a couple frighteningly malevolent people and really had to wonder about them). However, equating mental illness with demonic forces is not quite accurate. Having worked with plenty of mentally ill people whose lives have benefitted immeasurably by proper medication, I can tell you insanity is just a problem with brain chemistry and the brain not functioning properly. Would you say someone with asthma or a heart condition was demon possessed? If not, then why would you say someone with a brain condition is demon possessed? Stepping off the soapbox now.... mimic666
28 days later sucked It seemed like they were copying Resident Evil Way TOO Much. Virus taking over Human bodies is Resident Evil's T & G Viruses, Characters trying to make it to a place without Zombies... Resident Evil, Military involved... Resident Evil. They just removed Umbrella Corp, added another Female Character and a Father Character, changed the man-made Virus to a Man-made Virus that infected monkeys and then Humans amoungst other things.
